Chapter 178
Sheldone didn't say anything on his way out of Rose Bar.
However, when he got into his car, he roared, "Just you wait, Layla. Once I achieve my goal, the Crane family will mean nothing to me. I'll make you and your family pay the price for interfering in my matters!" He was one of the Crane family's strongest disciples of this generation, and it was something that he was proud of.
But because he wasn't a member of the Crane family, he had to keep his head down and swallow his pride whenever facing any of the Cranes. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
He'd had enough! Layla's interference in Jeffrey's death had been the straw that broke the camel's back.
William sat in the backseat. He couldn't stop his heart from aching when he saw how furious Sheldon was.
"It's not my intention to make you endure all of this, Sheldon-you need to strike a balance between the things you'll gain and lose.
"The Smith family seems rich and powerful, but we're nothing compared to those martial arts families that have been around for centuries.
"We'll only become a truly renowned family once we join their ranks. It's the only way our family can last through the ages."
Sheldon nodded. "I know what you mean, Grandpa, but Matthew Grant is a wimp that I can wipe out with a single finger. I don't want to endure his presence!
"And Layla isn't much better either. If she weren't a Crane, she wouldn't even have the right to talk to me!"
William sighed. Sheldon kept saying that he couldn't stand it anymore, but he continued to endure all this hardship.
He said, "I know you've put yourself through a lot for the Smith family's sake, Sheldon. But think about it-Layla won't be in Lambda forever.
"Once she's gone, you can kill Matthew. If she asks about it, just tell her that you've found proof of Matthew killing Jeffrey. What can she do about it?"
Sheldon nodded. "You're right. Once Layla leaves Lambda, that's when Matthew dies."
William added, "Don't forget about Rachel Carter. Our original plan was to take over the Carter family's fortune. Now that Jeffrey's gone, you'll have to handle it."
Sheldon was taken aback. "How are we going to do that?"
William smiled menacingly. "You're going to claim the woman and her money as your own, of course.
"Ken has informed me that he's going to purchase traditional herbs in bulk. He's going to offer a high price and buy up all the herbs in the market.
"Once the Carter family runs out of herbs to use, they'll have no choice but to stop production, no matter how many plans they have laid out. When the time comes, you can swoop in and take advantage of them."
Sheldon nodded. "Got it. There's one
thing I don't understand, though.
Haven't the Eastorians always spread rumors about traditional medicine being fake science?
They've always put traditional herbs
down. Why are they suddenly
purchasing all these herbs?"
William said, "Maybe it's so that they can sell modern pharmaceuticals. As for why they're purchasing traditional herbs, that's not something I have the answer to.
"But who cares? We just need to use Ken's blade to stab the Carter family and force them into a corner. Getting their money is what's important here."
Inside the private room, Rachel
made a toast to Layla as a form of
thanks. When Tracy saw that Matthew, who was the source of the problem, hadn't said anything to express his gratitude, she said, "Ms. Crane has helped you resolve a major issue. Don't you think you should make a toast to her?"
Matthew glanced at Layla and shook his head. "She can't drink because of her irregular period."
"Why, you-" Tracy gnashed her teeth. "Didn't you say that she's already better?"
Layla hurriedly explained, "I'm not completely fine yet, so I can't drink. I forgot all about it earlier."
Tracy fell silent. She'd finally realized that Layla was speaking up for Matthew at every turn. Her gaze traveled between the two. She couldn't help thinking something was going on between them.
...
The following day, Matthew dropped Lorraine off at kindergarten before heading to the company.
When he arrived, he saw Rachel leading a few senior executives out. They looked anxious. It seemed something bad had happened.
He couldn't help asking, "What's wrong?"
Rachel's brows were tightly furrowed. "Our purchasers were beaten up."
As soon as the words left her mouth, a car pulled up before them. Someone opened the door to reveal three purchasers in the backseat. They were all moaning in pain.
Matthew was shocked to see that they'd all been injured badly. Two of them had broken legs, while one had a broken arm.
Rachel stepped forward. "What happened? How did things end up like this?"
One of the purchasers said, "I went to Greenmont Town to pick up the herbs we'd ordered, but someone else had already taken them. When I went to question them, they started beating me up without a word! They also said that they'd beat up anyone who was from Wealthwave Group!"
