The Great Medical Saint

Chapter 170

Matthew said calmly, "I came here for two reasons-to repay a debt and to retrieve Medieval Medicine."

Jenny nodded in understanding. "My grandfather mentioned that one day, someone would come and claim that book. But I don't know where it is right now." Matthew smiled. "Can we visit the old mansion?"

Jenny's eyes brightened. "Sure! Let's go check out the old mansion."

Half an hour later, the gate to the courtyard creaked open, releasing a cascade of dust. Jenny took a few steps back, waiting for the dust to settle before stepping into the courtyard. Suddenly, a large dog emerged from a doghouse in the corner, barking furiously at the gate.

Cosmo stepped out from behind Jenny, his face lighting up with joy as he approached the dog. "Max, I thought you were lost! I can't believe you're still here guarding the place." Max wagged its tail enthusiastically, circling Cosmo and showing his excitement. Jenny led Matthew into Walter's consultation room.

The desk was covered in a thick layer of dust, and the silhouettes of mice could be seen scurrying across the cabinets.

Matthew began to search through the room, opening drawers, moving the medical cabinet, and even shifting the desk. He checked every nook and cranny.Original from NôvelDrama.Org.

Despite the thorough search, there was no sign of the book. He looked disappointed. "Maybe someone took it already."

Suddenly, Jenny remembered someone important. "Matt, my grandfather once had an apprentice called Howard Simpson. Eventually, my grandfather expelled him for some reason. "Afterward, he would often say, 'Dogs are more loyal than people. Show kindness to a dog, and it will stay true to you. But be kind to a person, and you might end up with a knife in your back." Matthew shook his head. He knew that if Howard had the book, he would have sold it long ago."Let's search the other rooms as well."

Jenny led Matthew from room to room, their search making them both look quite disheveled with dust covering their clothes and faces. Despite their efforts, the book was nowhere to be found.

An hour later, Matthew sighed with regret. "Let's go. We've searched everywhere we could think of, and it seems like the book isn't here."

Jenny, unwilling to give up so easily, suggested, "Let's go home and think about where else it might be. We can come back and search again."

Nodding in agreement, Matthew glanced at Cosmo, who was still playing with Max. He then said with a smile, "Let's head back. Bring the dog with us. It would starve if we left it here."

Max was filthy and smelled terrible. It became a stray ever since the family left the place.

Despite the absence of the family, it had stayed loyal, guarding the house. Matthew admired the dog's loyalty and couldn't help but feel a fondness for it.

Cosmo eagerly called out to Max, "Come on, Max. Let's go home."

Max wagged its tail excitedly, almost as if it understood Cosmo, though it wasn't clear if it did. As the three of them walked out, Max trotted after them. Matthew locked the door behind them and handed the key to Jenny. "Here, you keep it."

Jenny shook her head. "You take it. That way, you can come back anytime if you need to search again."

Matthew nodded and slipped the key into his pocket. The three of them, along with Max, began walking away from the old mansion.

They had barely walked a few feet away from the place when Max suddenly barked and bolted back towards the house.

Max raced to the front door, then leaped onto a crooked tree beside the entrance and agilely jumped back into the courtyard.

Cosmo watched it, a look of longing on his face. "Wait here, Jenny. I'll get Max back."

Jenny sighed. "Maybe it still sees this place as its home. Let's just go."

Matthew, however, remained still, watching Max with a thoughtful expression.

Perhaps it was just his imagination, but he sensed that Max's urgent barks and sudden return to the house felt intentional, almost as if it was trying to convey something.

Matthew found himself deeply drawn to Max, standing motionless for a long moment.

He sighed. "We'll bring Max some meat next time. Let's go." He turned to leave when suddenly, a blurred shadow leaped down from the wall.

Max trotted up to them with a book clutched in his mouth. Could it be Medieval Medicine, the book they had been searching for?

Matthew almost dismissed the

thought as wishful thinking. After all,

they had searched everywhere for the book with no success. How could Max possibly have found it?

Yet, there was Max, holding the book high, almost proudly, as if daring them to doubt it. The dog's face seemed to express triumph, challenging Matthew's skepticism.

The book was wrapped in a clear

plastic cover Through the aged, transparent material, the title, written in faded ink, could still be seen. It was Medieval Medicine-the very book they had been searching for.
