The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 387

Chapter 387

Cordelia cast a look around her bedroom, then she said, "Since ancient times, scholars have always

had to endure hardship. Pursuit of knowledge is tough, and life is tough. If one is surrounded by luxury,

they may forget their original purpose. Barney's home was filled with substantial, yet humble decor; he

was a man of great wisdom. Taylor chose this place because of its proximity to his office. None of us

find anything inappropriate about it."

Her words made Ronan regard her with new respect.

Ronan slowly strode towards her. Gradually, Cordelia's heart pounded like a drum. She had already Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

been drinking, and now, with the heat of the moment, her face quickly became flushed.

"What are you afraid of?" He asked.

"Afraid? What do I have to be afraid of?" Cordelia feigned nonchalance.

She then walked to the window and drew the curtains. She was afraid of those men in black suits

watching her all the time; it wasn't good for Ronan, and even worse for her child.

"Why’re you drawing the curtains? So impatient." Ronan's tone was rich with teasing. He knew why she

was drawing the curtains; someone was watching her.

Cordelia's room was small, and as she returned from drawing the curtains, she passed by Ronan, who

sniffed the air. "Have you been drinking?" He asked.

"Yes." Cordelia sat down on the bed, exhausted.

"Who were you drinking with?"

"A friend, you..." Cordelia was about to say, "Someone you don't know," but then she remembered that

he did know Petra.

But she didn't want Ronan to know that Petra was also in America.

"A man or a woman?" Ronan asked, his attention half on Cordelia and half on exploring her room.

"A woman. Why are you in America?" Cordelia asked Ronan.

"I missed you." He finally finished examining the furnishing in Cordelia's room. There was no trace of

any other man, and her books were all marked up, showing that she was indeed a diligent student who

focused on her studies to the exclusion of all else.

Cordelia's face flushed slightly.

"Why didn't you come home for Christmas?" He asked, taking a seat next to her on the bed.

"I've been busy with my studies."

"You have time to go out drinking with friends but no time to come home to see your son?" Ronan

sounded displeased.

Feeling guilty, Cordelia moved a little further onto the bed.

"The person trying to hurt you was Alana. I've already taken care of that problem. Now you can come

and go as you please without worrying."

Cordelia instantly sobered up. As if she'd been jolted, she asked Ronan, "How... how did you know?"

Ronan looked at her and smiled faintly, "It seems to be true. I thought you were really heartless, ready

to abandon your husband and son."

"I'm asking, how did you know it was her who wanted to harm me? I have no quarrel with her. Why

would she want to harm me?" Cordelia was confused, thinking back to when she saw Alana at the

Azure View Hotel. Given Alana's unique aura and stunning looks, Cordelia found it hard to believe that

such a beautiful woman could be so malicious.

"I had someone investigate. I've warned her."

Cordelia's heart was racing, and she was struggling to keep up.

At this moment, she felt a bit regretful, thinking how foolish she had been to heed the words of the man

in the black suit and rush off to America. Even though she'd always wanted to study in America and

Ronan had always opposed it, she didn't expect to end up in a situation where she couldn't even go

home. Moreover, Cordelia realized that she had underestimated Ronan's power.

"Did you go abroad because of me?" Ronan stared intensely into Cordelia's eyes.

Cordelia hesitated, looking away and lowering her voice. "Don't flatter yourself. I've always wanted to

study in America, but you were the one who wouldn't let me. And you're also the one who wouldn't let

me return home!"

"I'm allowing you to come home now. I can't argue with you anymore." Ronan said.

"I want to see my child! I want to video call him!" Cordelia demanded, lifting her head.

Just then, there was a knock on Cordelia's bedroom door.
