“I…” Winter angrily told her about what had just happened outside the bathroom, but she left out the part about Charles showing up. Jade’s eyes sparkled with anger, and she clenched her fists. “That mean girl Noelle! She’s too daring. We really need to show her who’s boss!”

Jade squinted her eyes and ended the call. “This might actually work out for that mean girl.” She snorted. But if Noelle marries him, it could turn out well for the Shaw family.” With a calculating twinkle in her eye, Jade plotted her next move.

After they walked back into the main room, Julian shot Jade a stern look. “What time do you think it is? Where have you been?”

“Where else? I was with Winter. I’m her mom, so I need to be there for her big moments,” Jade said with a little pout. “I overheard some chatter about Joseph not being happy with you. What’s that all about?”

“Oh, you know, the usual. However, guess who showed up?” Julian could not help but let a grin spread across his face. “Charles!”

“Charles?” Jade’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. “Where is he? I haven’t seen him at all.”

“He’s with the old man,” Julian replied, his grin growing wider, leaving Jade puzzled. “Why is he with him? And what does that have to do with Joseph’s grumpiness towards you?”

Julian let out a dismissive snort and leaned in to whisper to Jade, who then looked as shocked as could be. “Are you saying Charles came here not because of Joseph, but for our family’s elders?” Jade was almost in disbelief. “How on earth did he get to know Charles?”

“Well, I’m not entirely sure. Maybe from the old man’s birthday party a while back? Remember how he’s been going out more lately? I bet he was meeting Charles! Jade, I have a feeling the Shaw family’s tides are about to turn,” Julian said with a hint of excitement Jade’s gaze shifted thoughtfully. “It’s just too bad Winter’s heart is set on Xavier. If only she liked Charles…”

Jade left her sentence hanging, but Julian got the message. “So… what’s your take on Noelle?” “Nope.” Jade dismissed the idea instantly. “Charles is in a league of his own, and Noelle isn’t anywhere close to that.” However, what really bothered her was the thought of Winter looking second–rate if Noelle married Charles. Jade would never stand for that. Why should Noelle get to marry such a great guy?
