Chapter 56. Too Many Revelationa

Noah POV

Marcus Ford barked an awkward laugh.

He coughed self–consciously as if to clear his throat when he realized he was the only one laughing. I refused to join him in his merriment.

Then, he met my unflinching gaze.

“What kind of question is that?”

My eyes narrowed into slits. A sign that I am way past my tolerance level.

“Don’t try to evade answering my question with another question. I am not playing games here.” I warned.

I was at my wit’s end. I was increasingly frustrated because I could not get the answer I needed. And I am tired of running in circles.

Marcus Ford’s face hardened. He stood from his desk and put his hands on his hips.

“And you think I am?” He challenged us when we were face to face.

“I don’t owe you any explanation, Hunter. You may leave.”

He was trying to intimidate me, but I am Noah Hunter. I know my place in this universe No man can make me cower- except Briana and my triplets, I averred.

Not even to Marcus Ford, whom I feel indebted to for taking good care of my Briana. I will never bow down to him.

“And what if I won’t?” The dare slipped past my lips.

Marcus Ford looked surprised. “It appears like you have grown some balls. I thought you were manipulable. You let your uncle run your show for a long time. What made you grow out of his shadow then?”

The sarcasm was not lost on me. It sure made me realize that I was becoming a laughingstock in the industry due to my tolerance of my uncle’s whims. I thought it was an act of loyalty to the man who stuck by me.

Marcus Ford showed me that loyalty and becoming manipulated are two different things.

I realized talking to Marcus must be done this way. The man did not appreciate big words. He wanted them bare and honest

He tutted. “Good for you.”

I nodded my thanks. 1 am not sure how it will affect Briana and the children, but I must wam you that I am detailing bodyguards for them starting tonight. I can’t leave anything to chance Briana and the children’s safety were of utter importance to me.

He usually eyed me with stoicism. Now, he was looking at me with acceptance. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

I sighed. “Can you tell me what’s your relationship with my wife asked

“Ex–wife “Marcus Ford corrected

“She will be my wife again.”

Marcus snorted. “As if you can make Briana marry you again. Even if you force her or use the children as leverage, Briana won’tmarry you again. You hurt her too much, Hunter

The candidness reduced me to silence

“… And about your uncle. I suggest you dig deeper. Maybe you will find that Matt Bryant was also capable of other crimen apart from stealing money from your company?”

That made me confused.

“What do you mean?” Suspicion laced my voice.

Marcus Ford shrugged. “I am not implying anything. I just said you keep digging, and who knows what other skeletons you will find. Matt Bryant was known for his lavish lifestyle and his addiction to gambling in Southwood. Maybe, you can start there.” He advised.

I had not counted on that. Southwood is widely known as the Ford’s bulwark. It’s their territory, their home base.

I had not counted that my Uncle’s addiction to gambling was widespread in our circle, and I was the only one oblivious to it.

If Brent had not alerted me two years ago, I would have been unsuspecting until now. However, we can not find evidence that would prove that he was manipulating company money to fund his gambling.

If Langley had not spoken about it and shown proof, we would not find anything.

“I think Matt Bryant had accomplices in your company. I bet he was not working alone. So, I suggest you start purging your own company to expose those who connived with Bryant. That is the only way to clean up this mess. You have to expose his cohorts.”

“It has been implemented since we found out about the embezzlement. Thank you.”

After I left Marcus Ford’s office, I called Brent.

“What happened to your re–investigation of the accident from five years ago?I asked him when he picked up my call.

“We found the suspect, and you wouldn’t believe what he had to say.”
