My Mute Wife

Chapter 84 This is the Business He Wants?

Lexie stayed in hospital for three days, as it was a minor concussion and there was little physical damage.

On the day she was discharged, Jack came to do the discharge formalities to take her home.

Lexie subconsciously glanced behind him.

“Mr. Alan is not here,” Jack explained, “Mr. Alan has been busy for the past two days and had an appointment with a business friend, so he asked me to come and pick you up first.”

Lexie nodded, but there was still a pang of unexplainable loss in her heart.

Inside the car, Jack said, “Mrs. Howard, you left your bag in the car, the repair shop sent it back, I put it in the back seat for you, see if anything is missing inside.”

Lexie saw the canvas bag placed aside and casually flipped it over, turning it over twice with a slight frown.

Strange …

“Mrs. Howard, what’s wrong?” The voice of Jack came from the passenger side.

Lexie shook her head.

It was not worth anything.

In the Howard family villa.

As soon as Lexie arrived home, she was greeted by a maid who helped her with her things.

Even Marry, who was usually not very nice, had a new smile on her face and asked her what she would like to eat in the evening.

[Eat whatever you want, don’t bother.]

“That’s not good, Mr. Alan has explained that the family will have dinner together in the evening, which means to receive you. Go away the bad luck.”

Lexie’s heart warmed for a moment.

She hadn’t received much care from outsiders since she was a child, and even though Alan had treated her badly before, he did take care of her a lot in recent times and even saved her life.

Thinking about that plan with Myles, she suddenly began to hesitate.

When it was almost dark, Lexie went downstairs early to help and made the tea that Alan liked to drink.

When Diana saw this, she was angry, “A lowly thing, really think she is the mistress.”

Marry sighed at the side, “Keep your voice down, now it is said outside that Mr. Alan is taking good care of her, and Mr. Stanley has appointed her to live in the summer resort, she must be sitting securely as Mrs. Howard.”

At these words, Diana’s face turned livid with anger.

As they were talking, the sound of an engine came from outside.

Lexie immediately turned around and heard the voice of the maid from the doorway.

“Mr. Alan.”

“Miss Mitchell?”

Edith and Alan came back from outside side by side, the two of them talking and laughing.

Lexie’s hand shook and her tea spilled all over the floor.

“Mrs. Howard, you …”

“Did it hurt you?”

As soon as Diana saw Edith, she gave a smile, “Alan, why didn’t you tell me in advance you will bring Edith back, so that I could ask the kitchen to add two more dishes that she likes to eat.”

Edith held Diana’s arm and said, “Mrs. Stewart, I’m not a picky eater, I can eat anything, and I’m on a diet, so it’s good to eat less.”

“You’re not fat, it’s all just right.”

Alan took off his coat and saw Lexie coming out of the kitchen.

[Tea?]

“No, let’s eat first.”

Lexie glanced at Edith, [Why have you come back together?]

“Do I need to report to you about my business?”

Lexie was stunned.

Edith said, “I went to play golf with Alan together, so we are to have lunch together at noon, Sister, don’t you know?”

Playing golf?

Lexie clearly remembered Jack telling her that Alan had been very busy these two days, meeting clients.

Accompanying Edith to golf and dinner was his business?

“Come on, what’s the point of asking so many questions? Do men still need to tell you everything when they are out?” Diana gave Lexie a blank glance, “Besides, he’s not with anyone else, but your sister, why don’t you clean up and get ready for dinner?”

“Alan, I read a book two days ago and there is something I don’t understand, so you can help me with it.”

Edith pulled Alan to the living room, and Lexie was left where she was.

Looking at the two figures, Lexie’s heart felt a pang of emptiness.

When it was time to eat, looking at Alan sitting down, Lexie just pulled away her chair, but was stopped by Diana, “Hey, you go to the kitchen first to see if the soup is ready, help bring it up.”RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only

Lexie just had to do as she was told, but when she returned, her seat was taken by Edith.

“Alan, try this.”

In front of Lexie, Alan ate the fish balls that Edith had chucked.

“How does it taste?”

“It’s pretty good.”

“I told you this was delicious, Alan, you are tired, eat more.”

The two men spoke with absolutely no place for Lexie to interject.

After putting down the soup, she left in dismay.

Downstairs there was so much joking and laughing that no one seemed to care that she was leaving.

At night, Alan arranged for his driver to send Edith home.

Lexie had been waiting in the bedroom after taking a bath and immediately sat up when she heard the door open.

[She’s gone?]

“Yes,” Alan simply responded, pulling open his wardrobe and grabbing a set of pajamas and heading out.

[Where are you going?]

“The study.”

[Don’t you sleep here?]

Alan’s eyes contracted slightly, “You want me to sleep here?”

Lexie’s face stiffened, [I don’t mean that, I mean, this is your room, you …]

Her face suddenly flushed red and she didn’t know how to explain.

“Go to bed early, and there are maids to do the chores in the family, you don’t need to get involved.”

“Remember you are Mrs. Howard.”

A door slamming sound echoed through the silent room, isolating the sound of footsteps growing distant outside.

Lexie sat on the bed, looking stunned.

She didn’t understand what she had done wrong again to provoke Alan to suddenly become indifferent.

It was late at night.

Alan was sitting behind his desk reading his emails.

“Master degree from California University of Political Science and Law, well known in the industry, senior partner at the law firm …”

A CV that could well be described as the CV of an elite young man, with a handsome and righteous face full of sunshine.

Alan’s face sank deeper and deeper.

With a ‘snap’, the laptop was closed.

Friday afternoon.

Lexie was packing her things after work when she suddenly received a call from Kevin.

“I’ll meet you in front of the library, you come straight out from work.”

Lexie was carrying her bag when she went out and saw Kevin’s car, waving at her from far away in the car.

[What brings you here?]

“Get in the car first.”

The cars merged into the traffic and there was some traffic in the city centre because it was rush hour.

[Is there something wrong?]

“Grandma saw the news.”

Lexie’s face changed and she looked at Kevin in surprise.

The car’s brakes failed that day and crashed into a truck container arranged by Alan on the national highway, which caused quite a stir in J City.

She had thought that her Grandma would not know about it as she did not follow current affairs.

[When did she know?]

“I think this morning, Grandma saw the newspaper,” Kevin frowned and hesitated for a moment, “You haven’t seen the entertainment page?”

Lexie’s heart stuttered.
