Chapter 83 I Can’t Do This Thing
[What did you say to him?]
In the hospital ward, Lexie leaned back against the pillows and looked inquiringly at the person beside her bed.
Flora peeled an orange and broke it to her half, “Asked him if he’s been checking out Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group recently, use this as a cover, it’ll be much easier to meet with you again in the future.”
[Did he admit it?]
“Of course not, he is not stupid, business people are most afraid of getting involved with us, if they admit it, our bureau visits his group twice a day to ask them to assist in the investigation, can they be happy?”
[So the Howard Group is really checking out Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group?
“I don’t know.”
Lexie showed her surprise.
“Don’t look at me like that, the Howard Group has been squeezing Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group for a long time, and it’s not hard for me to know his attitude towards Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group from you. I don’t understand business, but no matter what you do, you have to know yourself and your enemy, so the Howard Group must have had someone check out Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group, and as for what, it doesn’t matter.”
[Are you setting him up?]
“Obviously, it failed,” Flora glanced at Lexie, “Myles guessed correctly, Alan is unfathomable, you are right to decide to leave him.”
Lexie was slightly stunned.
If it wasn’t for Alan, she would have really died this time.
Flora was afraid that Alan would get suspicious and did not stay in the ward for too long. After all, Lexie’s ward was now protected by special people on 24-hour shifts outside.
In the Howard Group.
Jack walked into Alan’s office carrying a bag.
“Mr. Alan, this is from the repair shop. It should be Mrs. Howard’s personal belongings, which were left in the car the other day.”
Looking at the dirty canvas bag, Alan frowned.RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
Lexie didn’t even have a decent bag and had been carrying this since he met her.
“Leave it there.”
“Yes.”
“How are you getting on with what you were asked to look into?”
“When Mrs. Howard was hospitalized earlier, Flora had been to the hospital and I heard from the people at the hospital that there was even some conflict with Edith at that time, and it looked like it was the first time she met with Mrs. Howard, and she really didn’t know Mrs. Howard before.”
“What’s her connection to the Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group?”
“The Investigation Bureau has always been very secretive about what they do, but it must be a big case, and there’s nothing big coming in to Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group, so if there’s really anything, I suspect it might have something to do with the bizarre death of an agent under Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group.”
Alan was thoughtful.
He knew about it.
“Mr. Alan, shall we check?”
“No need,” Alan’s gaze sank as he ordered, “Withdraw all the people recently sent to investigate Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group immediately, suspend research on those medicines for Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group and destroy all information.”
Jack was surprised, “Mr. Alan, those are all hard to collect, as well as the formula of the Nerves Soothing Pill, if they are all destroyed, won’t all the work be in vain?”
“Do you think an ordinary agent’s death needs to be investigated by the Deputy Director of the Investigation Bureau?”
Jack was stunned.
“There must be something else fishy about the Mitchell Group.”
His dark eyes were deep and wise. From the moment Flora mentioned Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group to him in the morning, he knew that the game he was holding was about to undergo a new change.
In the following day.
The doctor had just finished examining Lexie, and an unexpected visitor arrived in the ward.
The moment she saw Peter, Lexie was surprised.
“Lexie, why didn’t you tell me about your hospitalization? I wouldn’t have known about it if Edith hadn’t told me, why carry everything on your own?”
Peter put the fruit basket down, “These are all the fruits you like to eat.”
Lexie frowned, [Why are you here?]
So much had happened in the meantime that it has worn away the little father-daughter bond she and Peter already had.
“You’ve been getting on well with Alan lately, haven’t you? I heard that Stanley has asked you to move to the resort? That’s the Howard family’s treasure trove, and anyone who can live there is approved by Stanley.”
Lexie looked at Peter with panic.
Later, he kindly smiled, “None of this matters, I know that you have not been the kind of person who has been greedy for fame since you were a child, but I am at ease as a father if you can live well when you marry into the Howard family.”
Lexie reluctantly tugged at the corner of her mouth and looked down to peel an orange.
He always said such words with such a straight face, as if marrying her into the Howard family in the first place was for her own good.
After peeling the orange, she placed it on the table and gestured for Peter to eat it.
Peter was pleased, “Lexie, Edith did some things wrong, but she is your sister, sisters should help each other out in the future.”
Lexie suddenly changed her face, [Help her climb into Alan’s bed? Or help her to tell Tina to myself killed?]
Peter was stunned.
[Dad, I can’t talk, and I didn’t ask for anything, but I’m not a fool, and I’m not blind.]
Edith had set her up several times. How could there be such a vicious sister in the world?
“Lexie.”
[What do you come to see me about? Just say it.]
Peter converged the deliberately loving look on his face, his usual indifferent appearance instead made Lexie feel used to it.
He placed a black metal on the table, the size of a fingernail cap, very discreet and inconspicuous.
“Put this in Alan’s car.”
[What is this?]
“The wiretap,” Peter’s gaze sank, “There have been some problems with the company recently, and I suspect Alan has been reaching out to Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group’s herbal suppliers recently.”
The black metal was illuminated by the light, and the cold light glistened.
Lexie frowned, [I can’t do that.]
“You have to do it, it’s a matter of life for our family, don’t forget, you’re part of the Mitchell family too.”
[When I was last in hospital, Dad, why didn’t you come and see me?]
Lexie suddenly brought up the matter of her earlier hospitalization.
Peter was stunned.
[Do you know why I was hospitalized last time?]
Lexie raised her head, her eyes looking straight at the man opposite her, cold and detached.
[If you had considered me a part of the Mitchell family, you wouldn’t have thought of using me, that bottle of medicine almost killed me.]
Peter’s face changed at once, and he was speechless.
After a long time, he said stiffly, “Lexie, are you really unwilling to help me this time?”
Lexie frowned, and the fact that she no longer responded said it all.
Now that her Grandma’s life was no longer in Peter’s hands, she was no longer under his control, and if she helped him deal with Alan again, she will be committing her own folly.
With a ‘bang’, Peter slammed the door, his irritated voice echoing in the corridor.
“You are ungrateful! The Mitchell family has raised you for so many years for nothing!”
As he walked to the lift, Peter angrily threw the wiretap into the trash.
There was a ‘ding’ and the lift doors opened.
After Peter entered the lift, a figure in white turned out of the building, rummaged through the trash and pulled out the wiretap, after examining it for a long time, he slowly held it in his hand.
