Passion 207
Although Yvette was wearing a coat, she still felt cold as she stood in the wind. Ray looked out for the surveillance cameras around him as he drove. Then, he waited somewhere close to her.
Soon, he saw the slim woman walking toward him. He immediately got out of the car and opened the door for her. "Thank you," she said as she approached him.
Ray got back into the car and attentively turned up the heat. Ever since Yvette had gone abroad, Ray had been the one assigned to protect her most of the time. Hence, he knew she
wasn't a fan of the cold.
"Where are we going now?"
She leaned against the backseat and thought for a moment before saying, "Let's head back. to Dewberry Manor."
Xavier would find out that she was gone soon, and she figured he would blame her for it again.
"Sure." Ray chose to take the scenic route to drive her back.
Yvette looked at the view outside and asked, "You were in a hurry to go back home. Did something happen?"
He tightened his grip on the steering wheel and casually answered, "My fiancée called off the wedding."
Yvette couldn't help but be surprised. Since Ray was her bodyguard, they didn't talk about personal lives a lot. This was the first time she had heard that he had a fiancée, and she was taken aback to learn that his wedding had been called off.
"Is it because of your job?" She felt slightly bad for him. It was rare to find a bodyguard who was as responsible as Ray. He was always there for her whenever she called him.
Ray narrowed his eyes and stayed silent for a moment. "She's in love with someone else."
Silence fell in the car. Yvette didn't know how she should comfort him. "I'm sorry. I didn't know
Before she could finish speaking, her phone rang. She picked it up and saw that Xavier was calling her.
When she thought about how the Lanes' housekeepers treated her, she decided not to answer the call. Instead, she put her phone on silent.
Ray looked at her through the rearview mirror. "Should we turn back?"
"No. We're still heading back to Dewberry Manor."

Yvette didn't want to make things difficult for herself anymore. Why should she go back just because Xavier called her once?
Lynn was basically part of his family at this point. If he hadn't treated Yvette badly before, Lynn would never have dared to bully Yvette. Meanwhile, Xavier was greeted by an automated response on the phone. "Sorry. The number you have called isn't available..."
He tried calling again and received the same message. No one answered the call.
Xavier lost his patience and looked at Lynn and the other housekeepers standing in front of him. "Why did she leave so suddenly?"
The other housekeepers looked at Lynn and didn't dare say a word.
Lynn twisted the story and said, "Mr. Lane, after you left to see Mr. Lane Senior, I went to your room to clean it up. However, Ms. Snyder ridiculously slapped me twice. I was furious and wanted to tell you about it. Then, she left just like that."
As she spoke, she covered her reddened face with her hand, tears rolling down her cheeks.
When Xavier heard that, he thought about it carefully. He couldn't remember a time when Yvette had hit someone other than him. Then, he asked coldly, "Is that all?"
Lynn timidly looked at him and said, "When she was about to leave, I tried to stop her. However, she said she was free to come and leave Lane Mansion. She told me not to mind her business."
After Xavier listened to her, he stood up. Before he left, he said, "You'd better not be lying to

Lynn trembled a little and forced herself to calm down.
Xavier left the mansion and immediately called the bodyguard he had assigned to follow Yvette. "Where is she now?"
Lynn and the rest were listening from behind. Xavier sounded anxious, and he wasn't acting the same way as he had in the past. When Yvette had gone missing before, he hadn't looked for her at all. However, it seemed like everything had changed.
