Chapter 324
Madeline frowned and instantly walked away.
Her assistant, a young woman named Leila Cochran, who was only a few years older than Madeline, noticed and quickly caught on. Coughing lightly and pretending not to see Lucas, she followed Madeline, dragging a large suitcase.
She said. “Maddie, the person you’re avoiding is Lucas Larson, who became a bit popular during the winter break. How do you know him?
“From the way you’re reacting, it seems you don’t want to see him. Should I have a word with Mr. Fisher and ask him to arrange for the producers to remove Lucas, the person you dislike, from the show?”
“No need. You have been working for Nolan, so you might not know much about the entertainment industry. Lucas is my brother,” Madeline explained to Leila while walking, sighing with a bit of frustration. “But our bond has long since eroded. He just likes clinging to me whenever he sees me, and it’s annoying.”
Lucas had been overly attentive to Madeline when they were on the same set before, even more so than Madeline’s own assistant, which led to some gossip.
Although t
shared the same surname, not everyone knew they were siblings, and Madeline preferred it stayed that way. Leila thought for a moment and then realized that Lucas was one of the biased and heartless members of the family Madeline used to have.
She was highly skilled in combat and had acquired some medical knowledge from working for Nolan. However, having spent all her time within the organization, she wasn’t very familiar with the outside world.
Despite this, due to Nolan’s deep affection for Madeline, Leila, like other of Nolan’s subordinates, was aware of certain things about the outside world.
“Maddie, since he’s your brother, how about I…?” Leila’s eyes sparkled with a mischievous idea. “How about I break his legs or drug him to ensure he can’t participate in the show, so you won’t have to see him and get upset.”
Madeline looked at Leila’s serious face and realized she might actually do something like that.
“Don’t It’s not necessary, Madeline said
Leila glanced at Lucas as he approached and thought, ‘Mr. Fisher has me working as Maddie’s assistant to protect her and ensure she isn’t mistreated in the entertainment industry. Since Lucas is likely to make Maddie feel unhappy, it’s my responsibility to ensure he stays away. Mr. Fisher will probably agree with me, right?”
“Leila, I am serious; don’t think about doing anything drastic. I don’t hate Lucas; I just find him a bit troublesome, talkative, and loud,” Madeline said. Seeing Leila’s increasingly serious expression, she began to worry about Lucas.
“Maddie, why are you walking so fast?” Lucas, panting, caught up with them. “See, we keep running into each other, it’s like fate. We’ll be colleagues from now on. This show will take at least a month to film, possibly three if it drags on. We’re bound to see each other a lot.”
Feeling a bit wronged, Lucas continued, “We got along well on set before. Why are you avoiding me now? When just now, yo
instantly strode away, as if you were fleeing from a ghost.”
you saw me
Madeline looked at him indifferently. “You’re a rising star in the entertainment industry now. It’s not very appropriate for you to be too close to me”
Lucas said, “Trust me, I joined the industry because of you. I don’t mind if people know you’re my sister.”
Madeline awkwardly tugged at the corner of her mouth, thinking, You don’t mind, but I do. I’d rather keep it private. Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“That’s quite a big suitcase you have. Girls indeed have more to pack. Let me carry it for you,” Lucas said, reaching for the suitcase Leila was pulling.
Leila stepped back, feeling slightly irritated. “If you carry it, what’s left for me to do?”
Lacas was taken aback. “Maddie, you’ve got a new assistant, and her temper is pretty fiery”
It was understandable why Leila was so harsh with Lucas. Everyone in the Phantom Organization, especially those serving the Zodiac of Asuras, had a strong dislike for the Larson family members.
They all cherished and were protective of Madeline and understood how deeply the Zodiac of Asuras was pained by her mistreatment at the hands of her family. Each of them longed to avenge her, but without direct orders from their leaders, they
couldn’t take action.
They genuinely respected the Zodiac of Asuras and wouldn’t dare to disregard Madeline,
After all, their leaders‘ affection for her was evident to everyone.
“Don’t get upset. Leila is new to the industry, so it’s normal she doesn’t know you. She’s straightforward and speaks her mind.” Madeline said casually, “You should mind your own business. I’m leaving now.”
Lucas watched Madeline walk away, feeling deeply frustrated, and thought, Even her assistant doesn’t take me seriously. This is enough to show that Maddie has no fondness for me. Perhaps if I were to take a dangerous risk for her, just as Henry did, she might soften and begin to pay me some attention. When will I ever be able to earn her forgiveness?
Lucas stood there, feeling down and worried.
The first episode of the variety show involved a preliminary test of gaming skills.
Teams were to be formed freely and rated in a format where each side consisted of five players.
Madeline wasn’t very popular yet, having only gained some recognition from her role as the second female lead in a modern drama she filmed with Yohannes. Her subsequent work hadn’t aired
yet.
When it was her turn to select teammates, she ended up with a group of relative unknowns whom she had never heard of. But Lucas approached her again and sat next to her. “Maddie, we’ve gamed together before, and our teamwork is great. If we team up, we could make it to the top. What do you think?”
Madeline gave him a long, worried look, thinking, ‘One underperforming teammate is challenging enough. If the other three are also unreliable, the situation could become hopeless. Regardless of whether the other three are better or worse, Lucas’s performance is certain–he is not very good!
She said, “No
“But I’m your brother. Aren’t you going to consider me?” Lucas tried to appeal to family ties.
Lip
with you.
Madeline let out a breath and said, No. You have a solid level of popularity, and I’ve seen people offering to team Since you’ve played games with those streamers before, they’re likely open to partnering with you again. Additionally, some actors have extended invitations to you. So, stop trying to play the victim with me.”
Lucas had a hidden agenda and deliberately mentioned being siblings with Madeline on the show.
He hoped that by taking this step, Madeline would no longer have to avoid him. As siblings, and with his higher popularity in the entertainment industry–where male actors often attract more attention–he wanted to support her to help ensure she wasn’t seen as less significant.
That was because the producers often favored the popular and neglected or belittled lesser–known figures, something he had experienced firsthand.
He was confident Madeline would eventually become a big star; it was just a matter of time.
Lucas said, “Maddie, I only want to be on your team. Even if you don’t pick me, when you end up with chosen, I’ll still be one of them–unless you find someone else willing to join you.”

Madeline’s lips twitched. With her current limited popularity, finding other teammates was indeed challenging.
