The Princess Slave

Chapter 50

Violette POV

It’s beginning to get dark out and the people are already enjoying their time eating and chatting in the field. I’d never seen such an like it before.. Father never allowed anything like this at home. He couldn’t care less about festivities with the townspeople or anything like it.

“Ah, there you are, dear. The King has summoned you.” Beatrice said. She pointed at the King standing on a balcony who I hadn’t even noticed was looking directly at me.

“I will have Loren show you the way.” She said with a smile. Loren took my arm and we began walking to the castle.

“You’ve done a fine job today, miss.” He said.

“Thank you, Loren,” I said.

“Beatrice tells me you’ve never seen fireworks before.. is that true?” He asked. I nodded my head.

“Father never allowed anything like this. It’s sad to see I’ve been missing out. I’ve never seen so many people gathered in one place.” I said.

“Well.. after tonight you won’t be missing much of anything.” He said with a laugh. We walked inside and through several halls before we reached a staircase.

“Just up this way.” He said. We walked up the stairs and right at the top was a doorway.

“Go on.” He said. He opened the door for me and I saw Master looking over the field full of people.

“This is quite a view, isn’t it?” He asked. Loren shut the door leaving us alone.

“Yes.. it is, Master,” I said.

“Please, just call me Viktor for tonight.” He said. That came as a shock to me but I nodded nonetheless.

“Alright, Viktor,” I said. I enjoyed the way his name felt as it came out of my mouth. He looked at me and smiled. I’ve noticed he’s done that quite a lot recently. It’s a very good look on him.

“How have you felt today?” He asked.

“I’ve felt.. really good actually. No pains, not anything.” I said.

“That’s good.. I’m sorry I couldn’t stay.” He said.

“It’s no bother.. you’re a king and you have duties,” I said. He agreed with a nod.

“I haven’t enjoyed one of these in years.” He said. That made me feel guilty.. the past several months I’ve been here, we don’t talk often. Especially not about the time when he wasn’t King.. but instead my Father’s prisoner.

“I’ve never,” I said, trying to gently change the subject from such pain.

“Really?” He asked with wide eyes.

“Nope,” I said as I looked over the balcony.

“Well, then on that note.. I hope you enjoy it.” He said.

“Thank you.” I smiled.

“Are you hungry? I have food on its way. I figured we could eat and enjoy the show.” He said. He turned around, leaning against the balcony and looking directly at me.

“I would greatly enjoy that,” I said.

As if right on cue, the door opened and Loren walked out with a picnic blanket and a basket of food.

“Thank you, Loren. I’ve got it from here. Go get ready to watch the fireworks.” Viktor said. He took the items from Loren.

“Thank you, my King,” Loren said.

I stepped back as Viktor placed down the blanket and the basket and took a seat.

“You may sit.. or stand if you don’t want to be so close.” He said. I let out a giggle.

“I believe I’d rather sit,” I said. I sat beside him as he began pulling out food. He even pulled out a bottle of wine.

“Looks like they forgot the glasses.” Viktor chuckled. Goddess.. there’s that sound again.

“That’s quite alright,” I said. He opened the bottle and pressed his lips to it.. taking a sip and then handing it to me.

I looked at him curiously.

“What? Our lips have touched before.. it’s not as if there are germs to be afraid of.” He said sarcastically. I couldn’t hold back my smile.

I lifted the bottle to my lips and let the sweet wine flow into my mouth. When I was done I pulled it away shocked.

“That’s delicious,” I said with a giggle.

“Indeed it is.” He said. He smiled at my reaction as I took another sip.

We began eating as the sky grew darker. Sharing the wine until it was empty.. and then another bottle, and another.. I felt quite lightheaded and relaxed by the time we’d finished the third bottle.

The candles I hadn’t noticed before were now lighting up the balcony.. bringing an almost romantic feeling to the area.

“They should start any time now.” He said as he looked up.

I watched the sky in anticipation.. my body riddled with excitement. When the first firework went off, my heart raced. I looked at the bright pink lights in amazement.

“Wow,” I said softly.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?” He asked.

“It truly is.. I’ve never seen a thing like it.” I said. More fireworks began to light up the sky and I stood up to get a better look from the balcony edge.

I hadn’t noticed that Viktor stood up either.. until I felt his hand slide across my arm.

I took my eyes off the fireworks to look at him. His eyes were softened, not a single sight of the cold eyes I was used to. He was enjoying himself.. maybe even enjoying my company.

He brushed his thumb against my cheek before cupping my jaw and tilting it up.

“Maybe, I’ve had too much wine.” He said softly as he leaned in. Our lips were merely half an inch apart, my heart was in my throat.. but I wasn’t nervous even in the slightest. I felt more than comfortable around him now.

“Goddess.. You smell divine.” He g*****d. I giggled at his bluntness.Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

“Maybe, you really have had too much wine.” I smiled. At that moment he pressed his lips against mine and it was like the world around me evaporated to nothing. All I could think about was him.. and his lips on mine. He wrapped his arm around my back and pulled me closer.. his scent completely invading my senses. My hands found their way to his chest where I gripped his dress shirt tightly in my fists.. as if holding him there so he could never leave.

I’d forgotten what was going on around us until I heard cheers. Viktor pulled away and looked into the crowd, as did I. My eyes landed on Cedric kneeling on one knee before Lillian, her hands over her mouth as she nodded her head.

She didn’t even look at the ring as she lunged at him, tackling him to the ground and planting k****s all over his face.

The crowd roared in cheers and howls at the sight of two mates agreeing to marriage.

I’d never felt so happy.. my best friend, saying yes to her mate. Finally.. she has the mate she’s dreamed of. I looked at Viktor to see his reaction, only to see he was smiling directly at me. Watching me.. instead of the newly engaged couple below us.
