Chapter 26 Description
Ramos stated in a tone that left no room for dispute, “If you respond to my inquiries honestly. I might let you live. Okay? First thing. What’s the name of the man that employed you to do his dirty work?”
The man paused, obviously hesitant to divulge any details. While licking his lips, he scanned the space. “I don’t… I can’t,” he said, his voice breaking.
Ramos walked close to him. His voice scary and intimidating, “You can’t say it or you won’t say it?” Because, if you don’t do what I ask, I’ll make things really hard for you.”
The man’s face were filled with fear and he looked like he was about to faint. “I…. can’t say….” He said.
“Okay, I’ll make this easier for you,” Ramos said, leaning back. “What about his description? Can you tell me anything about what he looked like?”
The man swallowed hard, but he nodded slowly. “He was tall,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “And he had dark hair and green eyes.”
“Good, you’re being more helpful,” Ramos said, his voice encouraging. “Now, what about his clothes? Did he have any identifying features, like a tattoo or a scar?”
The man appeared to be searching for a way out as his eyes raced all around the room. But he was aware of his predicament. Finally, he continued, “He… he had a tattoo.” On his left arm’s forearm. A blade had been pierced through a rose.
“A rose and a dagger,” Ramos said again. What more can you tell me about this man? He must have had an accent. Was his voice distinctive in any way?
The man’s eyes were now down and he was trembling. He said, “He… he didn’t have an accent,” barely audible. And he had a nice voice. I’m at a loss for words to express it.
Ramos replied, “That’s good,” now using a more subdued tone. “You’re doing so well, I feel like we’re making progress. What about his age? Can you tell me if he was young or old?”
The man hesitated, clearly reluctant to answer. But finally, he mumbled, “He… he looked young. Maybe in his twenties or thirties.”
Ramos said, “Very good,” with the corners of his mouth twitching in a smile. “Let’s now discuss his physique. Was he fat or thin?”
The man’s hands were shaking apprehensively as he stared down at them. “He… was slender. He was robust, though. He appeared to be strong.
Ramos exclaimed, his voice full of praise, “You’re doing fantastic. “At this point, could you perhaps describe his mannerisms for me? Was he self-assured? Did he appear anxious?”
The man appeared to calm down a little after hearing the compliment. He said, “He… he was sure of himself. Very assured. And he appeared to be-focused. Like he was certain of his goals.”
Ramos used the word “Excellent,” sounding nearly ecstatic. “You’re doing a pretty good job. One more query. When you met this man, where was it?”
The man closed his eyes, his face looking pained. When he opened them again, he looked directly at Ramos. “It was at a tavern. I had been sitting there for a while, drinking, when he approached me.”
“And what did he say to you?” Ramos asked, leaning forward. “Can you tell me his exact words?”
“He… he said…” the man faltered, his breath quickening. “He said… ‘You look like a man who could use some easy money.”
“So he offered to give you a job?” Ramos asked.
The man’s remarks were thick and heavy in the air. As everyone waited for the next chapter of the narrative, there was a distinct sense of tension in the room.
The question “What did you say to him?” Ramos asked, almost raising a whisper.
The guy responded in a shaky voice, “I… I said yes. Knowing that I needed the extra cash to gets some thing.” The man said. “He told me to meet him in a dark alley close to the tavern at midnight the next day.”
The only sound in the room was the man’s fast breathing. Finally, Ramos made a statement. “When you ran into him in the alley, what happened?”
The man inhaled deeply, as though preparing for what he was going to say. “He was there waiting for me when I arrived. He… he pulled out a knife, and he told me to steal something from the tavern. I tried to refuse, but he… he threatened me.”
Ramos leaned forward, his eyes intense. “What did he threaten you with?”All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
“He threatened to hurt me if I didn’t comply to his demands.” The man said, unable to complete the thought.
Hardly swallowing, the man’s face became pale. He said, “He would… he would kill my family.”
The individuals seated around the table took a collective breath. Nobody had anticipated such a severe threat.
Ramos had an inscrutable look. His tone was deliberately casual as he asked, “And so, you stole something for him?”
The man hung his head low and nodded. “I… I gave him some cash that I had taken from the till. I never saw him again after he let me leave.”
