Chapter 577
Chapter 577
Derek stayed late at the company. He didn't leave until the employees were almost off work.
When something upset him, he was used to indulging in his work, which would give him a sense of
being in control.
As soon as Derek went downstairs, Evelyn, who had been waiting for him below, stood up and hurried
over, in fear that she couldn't catch up with him.
"Mr. Xavier, didn't you say that you went out for a meeting? It doesn't seem to be the case now."
It was impossible for Evelyn to have no grudge.
Everyone in the Capital City feared the clout of the Smith family, so that it seemed impossible to have
someone keep her waiting for almost a day.
But Evelyn held back her grudge and waited.
She wanted to see how Derek would explain.
"Oh? Really? Maybe some employees made a mistake."
Derek opened his mouth without a blush. The receptionist at the side turned pale, but she didn't dare to
say anything.
One was a rich girl who didn't look easy to mess with, the other was her boss, and none of them could
be offended by an unimportant figure like her.
How could Evelyn not know that he was offhand with her? Peering at the panicked receptionist, she
said, "Does that mean you need to do something to her?"
"I'll find someone more suitable."
Derek looked at the ashen-faced receptionist and called for the secretary. The two of them whispered a
few words.
"Transfer her a logistics position and double her salary."
Derek lowered his voice. He had no habit of letting others take the blame for him. The receptionist was
unlucky. He would give her a raise in salary as compensation.
"Is that all?"
Evelyn was not satisfied.
"What do you want, Miss Smith?"
Derek looked at her. If it weren't for the fact that Smith and Xavier families were partners and he
couldn't offend Smith family openly, he wouldn't have stayed here to have such a meaningless
conversation with her.
"I just came to J City, and knew nothing about this place. But I've heard the food here is good. Since
Mr. Xavier wants to apologize, why don't you treat me to a dinner?"
Derek frowned. So that was her real intention after a long conversation.
The man subconsciously wanted to say no, but Evelyn looked at him. "Won't the Xaviers treat a guest
and partner from afar to a dinner?"
Hearing this, Derek resisted the thought of refusing.
He is now representing the Xaviers. If his partner personally came to J City to discuss business, but
wasn't treated by him with courtesy, the Xaviers's reputation would be blotted once words get out.
"Miss Smith, what do you want to eat?"
Derek stopped talking to Evelyn, took out the car keys and walked out.
Evelyn understood that he agreed. "Anything will be fine, as long as dining with you."
Derek raised his eyebrows. Since that was the case... he had an idea, but he didn't know if Evelyn
could handle it.
The two of them walked out the door of the Xavier Group. Followed by Evelyn, Derek, probably
dissatisfied with her forceful invitation, walked very fast, without any intention of taking care of her
inconvenient walking in high heels.
Evelyn bit her lips. As she was about to speak, she caught a glimpse of light flashing through the
corner. Instead of revealing her resent, she rushed a few steps with a smile and took Derek's hand,
swepting his arm with her long hair and rubbing her breast against his back.
"What are you doing?"
Derek was suddenly touched, almost pushing Evelyn away with a fit of cleanliness.
"My shoes don't fit. Hold me please."
Evelyn said pitifully, pointing at her seven-centimeter heels.
Derek glanced at her shoes. "If it's not convenient for Miss Smith, I can get someone to take you back
to the hotel and have a good rest. Your feet won't hurt if you don't walk."
Evelyn's face turned red with anger and embarrassment.
She thought that as a gentleman, Derek would never reject her, but she did not expect that this man
could come up with a good excuse, which did not damage his demeanor, but also cleverly rejected the
invitation to go out with her.
"I can hold it back."
Evelyn could only let go of her hands. She looked into that corner. Although she could not let Derek
help her walk, the contact between them just now was intimate. Though it was only a second, but once
the photos get out, the public would believe whatever they wanted to.
Derek was even more guarded after the incident. He called the public relations manager of the
company and asked her to hold Evelyn so that she had no excuse to throw herself on him.
Evelyn didn't want to, but Derek insisted. She could only endure it.
Derek drove to a local restaurant. NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
It served one of the most popular local dishes in J City, which is famous for being spicy. If people are
not used to eating spicy food, their faces would turn red after taking a bite.
Meredith liked to eat here. After all, she was born and raised in J City and was used to the taste since
she was young. Moreover, she enjoyed the lively atmosphere here.
Because of her, Derek also got used to it and was trained to eat spicy food.
However, Evelyn was a northerner. Even if she had eaten spicy food, Derek expected that she was not
so capable, so he brought her here on purpose.
After all, the woman said that she could go anywhere he wanted.
Derek planned to let her back off just this once.
Evelyn didn't know what she's going to face. She observed the restaurant behind Derek.
It was different from what she had imagined Derek would take her to. She thought that he would take
her to a Michelin restaurant, but she didn't expect it to be such a local lively one.
"Do you like to eat here?"
Evelyn looked at the group of people sitting in the hall eating and felt disgusted.
She didn't expect Derek to like such a common place.
Seeing this, Derek guessed what she was thinking. "Well, if you don't like it, we could leave."
"No, no, I can try it."
Evelyn didn't want to miss such a good opportunity to know about Derek and immediately shook her
head.
The three of them entered the box.
"You are the guest, you can order."
Derek was confident that Evelyn would fall for it. There was not a single dish in this restaurant that was
not extremely spicy.
Evelyn didn't know what to order, so she randomly ordered some of the most expensive dishes.
Returning the menu to the waiter, Evelyn sat opposite Derek and looked at his face in a daze.
Soon, the dishes began to arrive.
Evelyn's face turned purple with anger when she saw the dishes.
