The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 558

Chapter 558

The next day, Ronan had to head back to Millstone because Callum was home alone, and Cordelia

was worried sick.

Wednesday rolled around, and it was Cordelia’s turn to teach. Right in the middle of her lecture, Mr.

Reese from the administration office beckoned her outside.

“Ms. Haselwood, here’s the deal,” he said, pulling out a stack of papers. “Millstone College sent over a

transfer request, and they’re waiting on your John Hancock. Sign these, I’ll fax them over, and the

school’s handling the rest of the red tape.”

Cordelia was floored. “Transfer request? What transfer request?”

Mr. Reese explained, all smiles and reassurance, “Well, you’re set to join the faculty at Millstone

College as a full-fledged professor. Your promotion’s coming through any minute now. Once that’s

done, you’re good to go.”

“But I never planned on transferring to Millstone,” Cordelia protested, baffled. She adored Birchwood

College—Barney’s legacy. Why on earth would she move to Millstone?

“I really can’t say,” Mr. Reese shrugged, “but orders are orders. All I know is I’ve been tasked with

getting your paperwork in order. Ms. Haselwood, as of tomorrow, you can kiss Birchwood goodbye and

report to Millstone.”

“What??” Was Birchwood really showing her the door? Had Ronan pulled some strings?

“Ms. Haselwood, chop-chop! You’re heading back home. That’s good news, right?” Mr. Reese beamed

as if he was the bearer of the best news ever.

Though she felt like she’d been played, Cordelia signed the papers. She taught the rest of her class

with her mind elsewhere, but with the same dedication as always.

After class, Cordelia shot Ronan a message on Messenger. [How did I get transferred from Birchwood © NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

to Millstone so quickly? Aren’t these things supposed to take, like, six months?]

His reply was casual. [Oh, about that, I made a sizable donation to Millstone—a new building.]

Cordelia was speechless. “Money talks,” she thought bitterly. A new building, and just like that, her

credentials were good enough for an immediate transfer to Millstone.

However, her research at Birchwood wasn’t finished. She still had grad students to mentor.

Mr. Reese messaged again, urging her to pack her bags for Millstone. Should she be thanking Ronan

for arranging her life so neatly?

[What about my stuff?] she texted him.

[Don’t worry, it’s being taken care of.]

So, she was expected to just up and leave.

It was a tough pill to swallow—Birchwood was her first job post-PhD...

“Ms. Haselwood, you could’ve given us a heads-up before jetting off. Who knows who we’ll end up with

now,” Sally said, clearly upset.

“It does,” Sally insisted. “The other profs are old-timers. It’s not the same.”

Cordelia patted Sally’s shoulder sympathetically. “I’m really sorry, guys.”

Cordelia didn't have much to say to that.
