Chapter 429
Chapter 429
Cordelia knew that whatever Ronan was about to say wouldn't be pleasant. She was so anxious that
she bumped her head against the door as she entered his study. Cradling her throbbing forehead, she
stepped into the room.
Ronan glanced at Cordelia, then at the door. "Still as clumsy as ever, aren't you?" He asked.
Cordelia remained silent.
Getting to the point, Ronan said, "In this lifetime, you can only be a big sister to our child. Don't think
about anything else."
Cordelia clenched her fists upon hearing this. She knew Ronan despised her and harbored no illusions
of him forgiving her.
"I agree. I only came because our son needed me, and he called me," she said.
"No need for explanations," Ronan retorted, lighting a cigarette. The smoke swirled before his eyes.
Cordelia hesitated, unsure whether to leave or stay.
"Is there anything else?" Ronan asked.
"Could you quit smoking?" She asked.
Ronan's hand twitched slightly, and his tone softened a bit. "Hmm, why?"
"Callum is still young, he shouldn't be exposed to secondhand smoke," Cordelia replied.
Ronan scoffed. "I didn't expect you to actually care about your son."
She was left speechless by his mocking comment. She hadn't seen her child for three years, and now
she was supposed to act like a caring mother.
Just then, Callum emerged from the bathroom. Cordelia also freshened up before accompanying
Callum to his room. It was one of the few times she had shared a room with her son since his birth. She NôvelDrama.Org © content.
felt a sense of warmth and intimacy as a mother at that moment.
"Callum, who usually sleeps with you at home?" Cordelia asked, turning off the lights.
"Dad. But then I got my own room," Callum replied.
"Have you started kindergarten yet?"
"Not yet. Dad said there's no rush. He's got my whole life planned out."
"And... what about your mom? Has your dad ever mentioned her?"
Callum's voice lowered when he mentioned his mom. "No."
Her heart sank at his response. She had given birth to him, yet she had no involvement in his life. She
was an outsider, unaware of any aspect of her son's life.
"Dad kind of likes you, you know?" Callum rolled over in bed to face Cordelia.
"I didn't know. How did you figure it out?"
"Dad's expression is different when he looks at you," Callum replied.
Cordelia let out a bitter laugh. Of course, it was different. She was his ex-wife, the woman he despised
so much.
"I need to pee."
"Okay, I'll turn on the light," Cordelia said. As she did, she noticed a small teddy bear plush toy on
Callum's bed.
It was a comforting sight. Not only did she own a similar teddy bear, but so did her son. Was it a sign of
fate? She picked up the toy to inspect it. Even the tags were the same. Her heart fluttered with
excitement.
"Who gave you this toy?" She asked Callum.
"Um, an older brother," Callum replied, rubbing his sleepy eyes. "He's really handsome. You better not
like him. You're only allowed to like Dad."
Cordelia chuckled at his innocent words. She simply told him, "Time to sleep."
As she patted Callum to sleep, she wondered who this 'big brother' in Birchwood was. She assumed he
was a friend of Ronan's due to his social status.
Thanks to the panda plush toy that mirrored her son's, Cordelia's aversion towards Harold lessened a
bit.
