The Cherished Wife

Chapter 277

Chapter 277

Noelle racked her brains. She had indeed gotten caught up in a few incidents recently, but it was unlikely her grandfather would know about them. She had kept everything a secret from him because she did not want him to worry. “Grandpa, who have you been listening to lately?”

“Your mother visited today and brought up the topic of your sister and Xavier getting married!” The tone of Sebastian’s voice did not sound pleasant, and he seemed to be in a foul mood as well.

Noelle felt her eyelid twitch. “My mother dropped by today?” She bit down on her lip before asking, “What else did she talk about besides Winter and Xavier’s wedding?”

Sebastian asked exasperatedly, “Did that old geezer, Samuel Shaw, transfer ownership of his shares to you? What on earth is that old coot trying to do? Why does he feel the need to drag you into the mess of the Shaw family?”

He sounded extremely displeased with Samuel, so Noelle hurriedly said, “Don’t be angry, Grandpa. That’s not what he intended!” Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.

Noelle knew Sebastian had been extremely displeased with the way the Shaw family had been treating her, and since Samuel was the patriarch of the Shaw family, it was only natural that Sebastian directed all his dissatisfaction onto him.

“Among the entire Shaw family, he’s the one who treats me the best. I’m sure you know that as well!”

“Hmph. If he truly were kind to you, why would he transfer ownership of all those shares to you? Does he not realize that those shares are a ticking time bomb for you despite being a wonderful thing to have for others?!”

Sebastian had absolutely zero interest in the Shaw family and City Ring Corp’s shares. Noelle was his only

concern.

“Listen to me, Noelle. You absolutely can’t accept those shares. I know you’re angry at your mother, and there’s nothing I can do about her at this point. But at the end of the day, you guys are still mother and daughter. I don’t want this to come between you guys…”

“Don’t worry, Grandpa. Don’t you trust me?” Noelle smiled as she hurriedly cajoled Sebastian. “Since I’ve accepted those shares as a gift, I know what I should and should not do. Don’t worry. After all, I’m an adult, aren’t I? I know what I’m getting myself into!”

“You…” Sebastian sighed resignedly. Then, he seemed to recall something else. “I have an old friend who works at the county clerk’s office, and they mentioned seeing you registering your marriage the other day.

Noelle did not know what to say. She bit down on her lip and did not say anything for a long while. Then, she recalled that she and Charles had registered their marriage in Charles‘ hometown. She asked, “How did your friend see that, Grandpa?”

“Noelle, are you still trying to keep things secret from me?”

“Grandpa, I…” Noelle did not know how to answer that question and bit down on her lip. “How did you get that information?”

Sebastian scoffed. “I wouldn’t have known if that friend of mine hadn’t visited his daughter!”

He scoffed once more. “He said they were working on the orders of some big shot and that the follow–up procedures were quite a hassle. There are still more procedures to come after this. Noelle, are you really married?”

“I…” Noelle bit her lip and was about to begin answering when she caught a glimpse of the man standing at the door. His elegant features were arranged into a smile as he stood there and gazed at Noelle.

She drew in a deep breath before she spoke to her grandfather on the other end of the line, “Well, since you already know the truth, I won’t keep things a secret from you anymore, Grandpa. I’m indeed married!” Noelle bit down on her lip and gave Charles a pleading look as she spoke. His eyes had a sparkle in them, and he seemed extremely pleased with Noelle’s answer. Leaning against the doorframe, he gazed at her with interest.
