The CEO Gets What He Wants

Chapter 591

Chapter 591

Chapter 591 All The Affection

Cayden intentionally asked Avery to wait for him at the CEO's office after work so they could leave together once he was ready.

As such, Avery waited next to the CEO's exclusive elevator to get to his office.

Evangeline, Nina, Cecelia, and the rest of their colleagues took the common elevator.

Evangeline observed Avery as she pressed the button that took her to the restricted floors and went into the elevator alone.

The words “CEO exclusive” in gold on the topmost floor of the elevator were so dazzling and stood out starkly.

Although Block A of the commercial building was huge and equipped with high-speed elevators on every level operating concurrently, it was still slightly crowded due to a large number of employees. Evangeline couldn't help admiring Avery for being the only one who could use the CEO's exclusive elevator freely.

She tugged on Nina's sleeve and whispered, “Nina, I saw Avery using the CEO's exclusive elevator. I wonder what is her relationship with our CEO?”

She was merely seeking confirmation for what she already knew.

“Avery is—” Nina was about to speak when she was cut-off by Cecelia.

Despite looking friendly, Cecelia had a calculating look as she assessed Evangeline. “Everyone in the company knows that Avery is the CEO's wife. That is why she has the right to use the CEO's exclusive elevator. She and our CEO are in a very healthy relationship where they already have three children.”

“I see. That explains it.” Evangeline pretended to be surprised upon hearing such information for the first time to conceal her disappointment.

Cecelia cast Evangeline another glance at the odd look on her face, who smiled back awkwardly and retreated into a corner to minimize her presence.

Evangeline sensed how sharp Cecelia's eyes were. It was as if she were a detector capable of divulging her secrets.

Just then, the elevator had reached their floor.

Evangeline hurriedly urged her two colleagues on, “Let's go. The elevator's here.”

She politely gave way to the pregnant Cecelia and Nina before getting on herself.

Nina had a pretty positive impression of her new colleague as she had a sweet smile and was polite and graceful.

However, Cecelia looked down and avoided her stare. Based on her experiences interacting with people of various personalities, Cecelia had a sixth sense that Evangeline's quietness belied a scheming interior.

Perhaps she might have been overthinking.

By the time Cayden was done with his work in his office, he caught sight of Avery's slender figure that had already fallen asleep on the couch.

Her long hair concealed half of her face, and her curled lashes twitched sporadically during her slumber, entrancing him.

Cayden stood up from his office chair and went over to carry Avery from the couch. His face was ridden with guilt and heartache.

He barely spent time with Avery as he was too busy with work. Since he knew that women tended to become more sensitive during pregnancy, he let her accompany him to work as he worried her imagination would run wild if she were left alone at home.

Doubt had taken root within him about whether it was the right decision after all.

The sky was completely dark by the time Avery awakened.

She was greeted by the side of a familiar bedroom illuminated by the cozy light of a floor lamp.

She rubbed her mildly sore temples and wondered how she'd managed to get home from her office.

The innocent laughter of children playing sounded vaguely from the direction of the living room.

Avery made her way downstairs.

The housekeeper was preparing dinner while the twins were playing with a remote control toy plane, and Cayden was reading the newspaper's business section on the couch.

“Good evening, Mommy,” the two children greeted Avery at her appearance before quickly resuming their study of the toy plane.

Cayden put down his newspaper. “You're awake. Did you have a good rest? Dinner's almost ready.”

Avery took her place beside Cayden and said apologetically, “Although I did mention waiting for you to finish work, I fell asleep in the end. I have no clue why I was so sleepy... “ Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

Cayden rested his hand on her stomach, his chiseled face alight with mirth. “It's not your fault. Perhaps our third child is a lazy bum. That's why you are affected too.”

Avery grinned. “The baby wouldn't be pleased to hear you say this.”

She immediately felt a kick in her stomach the moment she finished speaking. It was as if the infant could hear what she'd said.

Cayden could sense the baby's “fury” despite being separated by a layer of skin.

“What a vengeful little fellow,” Cayden declared firmly.

“What does the baby know? He's still so tiny.” Avery chuckled as she rubbed her belly and murmured words of comfort to the baby before it stopped kicking.

Dinner was served soon enough. The four-course meal with soup on the side was simple and nutritious. They were all Avery's favorite dishes.

Rory sat between Cayden and Avery whilst they were taking their meal.

She blinked her limpid eyes after taking several mouthfuls of pasta and giggled. “Mommy, I got first place in the city-level art competition. Can you accompany me and Zachary to school as there'll be a prize-giving ceremony for the winners?”

“Did I hear it right? You got first place?” Avery exclaimed. She placed her cutlery on the table and affectionately squeezed Rory's cheeks proudly. “What a wonderful daughter I've got. Of course, I'll go with you tomorrow.”

Rory offered Avery a spoonful of her favorite dish. “Thank you, Mommy.”

“Well done, Rory. Keep up the good work.” Cayden fondled Rory's head dotingly.

Zachary, on the other hand, continued eating his meal daintily and was the mirror opposite to his sister's excitement.

He had been the recipient of many awards from the time he was in kindergarten and it was nothing special to him.

He didn't deign to announce that he'd won a prize this round.

The Lambert residence was a hive of activity as almost the entirety of the Lambert family had gathered there.

This was because the results of the DNA test had been released, proving that Evangeline was indeed William's biological daughter.

Evangeline would be welcomed back to the family this evening.

Claire planned to inform all the relatives of the Lambert family about it before holding a banquet, in which they'd publicly announce Evangeline's true identity in a few days.

The Lambert residence was decked in a festive mood. Evangeline's room was specially designed to look cozy and splendid.

Nicole observed the changes in the household detachedly.

Evangeline was now the center of attention of all the elders of the Lambert family and was the sole recipient of their affection.

George and Fiona kept fawning over and trailing her everywhere.

They were overjoyed that their “granddaughter” was still alive and had grown to become such an elegant and learned young lady. It was as if they couldn't help showcasing their love for her for all the world to see.

Evangeline was garbed in a pristine white evening gown and had a dazzling smile on her face. Her shoulder-length hair was coiled and held in place by an exquisite diamond tiara. She was the story of Cinderella incarnate.
