Chapter 576 Tampered Her Records
Claire bounced off her seat like a spring.
Her expression changed as she stared at Silvia and asked agitatedly, “A-Are you telling the truth? But how come Will and I didn't find anything useful when we investigated the matter?”
Silvia poured her a glass of water and made her seat.
She deduced, “Could it be that someone intentionally erased Yara's records to prevent you guys from finding anything? This seems like the work of Allie Musk. Luckily, my husband works at customs, so I was able to use his connections to check Yara's recent travel records. It turns out Yara has been living abroad for almost two decades and has acquired foreign citizenship. However, she recently returned to Ackleton to visit her relatives.”
Claire muttered, “She left the country twenty years ago? Silvia, is Yara still in Ackleton? I need to find her and ask her some questions!”
She then picked up her car key, grabbed Silvia, and was about to leave the house.
Silvia immediately stopped her and advised, “Are you mad, Claire? Yara has left Ackleton! Even if she hasn't, do you think she'll admit all the things she did in the past? You're just going to alert the enemy and jeopardize my investigation.”
Although Claire was known for her intelligence and rationality, she would always become impulsive and irrational when dealing with matters that involved her biological daughter.
At that point, her enthusiasm and energy had plummeted like a deflated balloon.
She settled back into her seat with a mournful expression. “Silvia, you're right. We need to handle this situation with great care. Once we locate Yara and convince her to reveal the truth, we'll finally know what happened all those years ago. It's just that my heart aches for my daughter. I can't help but wonder if she's been living well all these years.”
She covered her face with her hand, but the anguish in her eyes was impossible to hide.
Knowing that her daughter was doing well would bring her immense relief, but if her daughter suffered the fate of being kidnapped by human traffickers and having her limbs forcibly broken, ultimately reduced to a pitiful beggar on the streets, she knew that she would never find peace for the rest of her life.
Silvia consoled her, “Claire, we must take a step at a time. Finding your daughter is not something we can rush. You've waited over twenty years, so I'm sure you can wait a few more days. The absence of information about Yara proves that Allie had tempered with the records. Otherwise, we would have been able to track down her family. This only further substantiates my suspicion about her. I can guarantee your daughter is still alive. We'll continue to investigate meticulously, and I'm sure we'll be able to get to the bottom of this mystery.”
Upon hearing that, Claire hummed in response and regained her composure. Her gentle gaze was now ablaze with determination. “I believe I'll find my daughter!”
“I'm sure you will.” Silvia gently patted her hand with equal conviction.
Meanwhile, Avery was successfully cleared of the cheating accusation.
When she returned to Trident Group to work officially, everyone looked at her differently.
The successful clearing of her cheating charge and her subsequent ousting of Yulissa served as evidence that she had powerful backing.
It was not difficult for them to figure out that she had the support of the boss.
The removal of Yulissa from the company led to Wisteria calling for a meeting among the employees in the design department, during which Trevor was appointed as the new department head.
All the employees in the design department celebrated his promotion.
Avery and Nina were especially happy for him. Given Trevor's personality and capability, they believed he was a good fit for the position. No one would question his ability to hold the position of department head.
With great sincerity, Avery said to Trevor, “Congratulations, Mr. Lane. I hope the design department will continue to grow under your leadership.”
“Thanks. Please just call me Trevor instead of Mr. Lane.” Trevor blushed.
Nina said cheekily, “Mr. Lane, from now on, you'll be even busier. Good luck! We have faith in you!”
Cecelia, on the other hand, seemed noticeably disappointed.
If it were not for her pregnancy, she felt she might have had a chance to compete with Trevor for the position.
She sighed almost inaudibly while rubbing her belly and quipped, “You know, I might have been the one to take over the position if it weren't for my pregnancy. Don't you think the position was handed to you on a silver platter, Mr. Lane?”
Trevor did not take offense at her remark. He humbly replied, “I think so, and I'm grateful to you for relinquishing this opportunity. To be frank, Cecelia, you're undoubtedly more qualified and skilled than I am. I'm just lucky to have been given this chance. Otherwise, I wouldn't even be given this position.”
Avery placed her hand on Cecelia's shoulder and offered words of comfort. “Cecelia, although you didn't get the promotion, you have two beautiful babies now!”
“I totally agree!” Nina gave her a thumbs-up.
Upon hearing that, Cecelia flashed a smile. “You're right!”
The sound of their laughter echoed through the office.
Avery and Nina playfully teased Cecelia for a few more moments before eventually returning to their respective desks, immersing themselves in their work once again.
Avery was busy with her work the entire afternoon.
At the end of the work day, she received a WhatsApp notification.
After unlocking her phone and opening her WhatsApp, she received a message from an unknown number. The person introduced herself as her high school classmate.
Assuming the person was someone she knew, Avery replied to her message.
Soon, the person texted: Hey, Avery, It's Brittany. We were classmates back in tenth grade. It's been a while! We'll be having a high school reunion tomorrow night. Would you like to join us? Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
The person who texted Avery was Brittany Reid.
Avery remembered her as someone who always acted high and mighty due to her good looks and the fact that she was one of the student leaders.
Throughout high school, Avery was only close with one classmate, Nina, whereas the rest of her classmates were just acquaintances.
Avery had a vivid memory of Brittany because the latter used to bully her in class.
It was hard for her to believe that her enemy was now inviting her to a class reunion after so many years.
Considering how unfamiliar she was with most of her classmates, Avery declined the invitation: I'm sorry, I won't be able to make it tomorrow because I have other plans.
Brittany responded with another text: Oh, come on, Avery. We've all graduated so long ago and haven't seen each other in many years. It's a rare opportunity to have a gathering with me. Do this for me, please?
The text ended with a string of sad emojis.
Avery stared at the screen and could not help but feel how ridiculous that message was.
It was hard for Avery to believe that Brittany was inviting her, considering they were never on good terms in the past.
Upon noticing how quiet Avery was, Brittany texted another message: Avery, almost everyone from our class will attend the reunion tomorrow. We rarely have the chance to gather like this, so you must come!
