Chapter 282
Chapter 282
Claudia had just wiped down the tables and was now disinfecting the couch. Suddenly, her fingers trembling, she pleaded, “Allison, I didn’t have a choice”
Allison turned around. The night wind hit her back, messing up her hair.
She looked at Claudia, “That bracelet might not be super expensive, but it’s 18K white gold with diamond accents, from a known brand. You could still sell it for a pretty penny, even second hand. At the Red Jack Club, we have rules. If you find something that belongs to a customer, you have to return it. If they find out, Claudia, there’s not much I can do to help you”
Claudia clenched the cleaning cloth in her hands. She looked at Allison, her lips pale, “Allison, I know you’re a good person. Please, don’t tell the manager. I’m begging you
She walked towards Allison, about to kneel, Allison jumped back in surprise. “Claudial”
“My granddaughter is sick. Life’s been tough. My son died, and my daughter–in–law got sentenced to four years in jail. My granddaughter suddenly found out she has a heart problem and needs surgery, which is very expensive. I’ve never saved up that much money in my life. When I saw that bracelet, I… Claudia’s eyes filled with tears as she spoke
“Claudia, I’ll pretend this never happened. But the Red Jack Club has cameras. Your job here is pretty stable, Claudia. Don’t lose it over a bracelet. It’s not
worth it.” Allison said
“I know. I was about to take the bracelet to the front desk that day, but I heard that the cameras on the 5th floor were broken for two hours. Allison, if you don’t tell anyone, no one will ever know, I beg you” Claudia was about to kneel again.
Allison quickly helped her up. She sighed quietly. “Alright.”
Leaving the VIP room, she turned to look at Claudia who was still busy inside. That frail figure reminded her of her own mother. Her mother had also worked hard like this in the Flanagan family, doing all sorts of chores.
In the underbelly of this bustling city, many people had their own struggles. Those at the bottom felt it the most.
Allison didn’t tell anyone about Claudia taking the bracelet. But the next night at work, she heard from Sue that Claudia had been fired
Allison was changing clothes when she heard. She stopped in her tracks, “Fired? Why would they fire her?”
“She took a customer’s bracelet. It’s a new Cartier model. The rich lady had just bought it a few days ago. She forgot it and when she remembered, she came back to look for it. The front desk said they didn’t have it, but the customer is always right, so they checked.” Sue said.
Heidi added, “They checked the surveillance and saw Claudia taking it, so they fired her on the spot.”
“I thought the 5th floor surveillance was broken that night?” Allison asked.
The surveillance system on the 5th floor had a glitch, but the cameras in 506 and 505 were working fine. The ones in 501 to 504 and 507 to 511 were broken. The others were normal.” Sue said.
Allison sighed silently. Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.
Ashley said, “I always thought Claudia was honest. I didn’t expect her to take a customer’s belongings, especially something so valuable. She’s been let off with a firing because Ms. Sarah pleaded for her Otherwise, the rich lady might have called the police:
“She got greedy” Heidi said.
“This is a lesson. Don’t try to take shortcuts. If you get caught, you’ll not only lose your job. But if the amount is big enough, you could end up in jail with a criminal record. Our words mean nothing to these rich people” Ashley said.
Allison finished changing and walked towards the VIP room. The night wasn’t busy Heidi was inside the room.
Standing at the door, Allison rested her back against the wall, thinking about Claudia begging her.
Although, it wasn’t her who had revealed the truth, she still felt uncomfortable. Only those at the bottom understand the pain of those at the same level, it wasn’t until her mother fell seriously ill that she realized how important money really was in this world.
The world was just unfair!
She and Penelope might look alike, but Penelope was the beloved daughter of the Flanagan family and Lucian’s fiancée. A single handbag was more than what she made in half a year.
If fate ever gave her a chance, she’d grab it with both hands!
