The Beauty and the Brain

Chapter 192

Chapter 192

It was already one o’clock in the afternoon when Marie woke up. She cleaned up the mess in the

kitchen

while waiting for Dennis to cook.

After having a meal, it was already afternoon. Dennis asked Marie to wait. He went outside to get some

New

Year’s gifts and health supplements for Asher and then came back to pick her up.

Marie stayed at Glorious Estate and waited for Dennis to come back. She was supposed to go with

Dennis,

but he insisted that she rested at home.

When Dennis took her to the Spence mansion, it was already dark. Marie looked at him helplessly and

said,

“Who comes over for New Year greetings at night? Grandpa will definitely be unhappy.”

Dennis smiled and asked, “Are you worried about me?”

She rolled her eyes at him and said, “I’m not worried about you! Even if Grandpa is unhappy, he won’t

be angry,

with you. I don’t even know who his biological descendant is!”

Dennis pulled Marie over and kissed her, saying, “We’re a family. We don’t care about that.”

Blushing, she spat at him. “Shameless! I’m not your family!”

Dennis smiled happily, and Marie shook him off and went in. As soon as she entered the door, she

noticed that it was dark inside. It was just pitch black. Why weren’t the lights turned on at home?

“Grandpa? Edward?” she called out.

No one answered her, which made her feel strange. Was there no one in the house at night?

She fumbled to press the switch on the wall. With a click, the switch was turned on, but the bulb

overhead

didn’t light up the floor did.

To be precise, the lights on the ground were turned on. When Marie looked at the ground, she realized

that the ground was covered with rose petals. A path surrounded by lights snaked all the way to the

back door.

Not knowing what the family was up to again, Marie decided that she was not in a hurry. She took off

her jacket and hung it up, then walked along the lit path.

Every time she took a step, there would be a small card pinned to a bright rose, and it had been placed

in the middle of the path. She picked them up and collected a lot of cards along the way.

There were simple sentences written on the cards, and the handwriting was free and easy.

[When we first met in the back garden of the Spence mansion, you threw yourself into my arms.]

[You can shoot, race, and do business. Why can’t you cook?]

[We’ve been living together for so long… Aren’t you going to take responsibility for me?]

[Before I met you, I never thought of love. After I met you, I never thought of being in love with anyone

else.]

[The first time I saw you, I knew it would be you for the rest of my life.]

[Although I don’t know where your worry comes from, I’ll do my best to give you a sense of security.]

[In my life, I have had too many misfortunes. My only luck was I got to meet you.]

[Marie, I’ve never just liked you.]

Unknowingly, Marie had already walked outside the small pavilion in the garden. That small pavilion,

which

was usually inconspicuous, was surrounded by lights at the moment. Countless roses were wrapped

around

pillars, and several lights were shining on the top; it looked like a castle of a princess in a fairytale.

A man in a suit and tie, holding a delicate rose in his hand, stood in the middle of the pavilion, like a

prince

who had walked out of a fairytale.

Holding the large pile of roses and cards in her hand, Marie was a little overwhelmed and didn’t quite

understand what was going on.

Dennis walked down the steps and approached her, step by step. He handed the rose to Marie, and

she took

it in a daze and looked at him blankly.

Dennis looked into her eyes and said in a gentle tone, ‘Marie, with this one, there are 99 roses in total.

If you

accept my flowers, you are mine.”

“Huh?” Marie was still dumbfounded, not knowing what Dennis was doing right then.

“I can cook, race, and shoot. I should be much better than you in business. I will treat you well, gently,

and loyally and give you enough security. In addition, I’ve never just liked you. I want you to know that I

love you.” Dennis stared into her eyes and looked at her seriously and stubbornly.

He smiled, took out a small brocade box from his pocket, and knelt on one knee. It was probably the

first time

that the noble man had been so careful. He opened the box carefully, and the bright pink diamond

dazzled

her eyes under the light.

Dennis had never looked at her so seriously before. He asked, “Marie, will you marry me?”

Tears rolled down her cheeks. Marie had watched so many TV shows about marriage proposals, and

she had thought those actors were just trying to create an atmosphere, so the actresses had cried

when they were

proposed to.

But that day, when it was her turn, she realized that those tears would really fall involuntarily.

It was as if in just a few decades, finally waiting for her destiny, all wandering without a home, that little

ring, that man who knelt on one knee, and those simple words were declaring her stability and

ownership in the

future.

At that moment, she had completely forgotten all about her painful past. She had forgotten about Rose,

Rodger Group, Wren, and her hatred. If she used to be a cold-blooded killer, then this man was the

only one who could bring back the kindness and gentleness hidden in her heart.

Her heart was full of the kneeling man in front of her- the lofty man who looked down upon the world

like a king was kneeling on one knee in front of her and asking for her consent.

Marie nodded vigorously. “Yes! I do!”

Dennis put the ring on her finger, stood up, pulled her into his arms, and kissed her lips that were

saying “yes.”

The fragrance of roses mixed with the girl’s salty tears. Under the night and light, the two of them

kissed

passionately; it was as if they wanted to melt all their feelings into that kiss and convey them to each

other.

As for her, she had never seen her feelings so clearly. This man was the second half of her life.

Dennis reluctantly left her lips, pressed against her forehead, and panted heavily, saying, “If it weren’t

for everybody else, I would have picked you up and thrown you on the bed immediately!”

With a blush on her face, Marie knew how strong Dennis’ self-control was at that time. She stood on

her

tiptoes, kissed the corner of Dennis’ mouth, and said, “Thank you, my fiancé!”

Dennis was convinced by the word “fiance” and said, “If you seduce me again, I’ll take you away.”

She immediately took a step back and suddenly remembered what Dennis had just said. She said,

“There’s

someone else? Who else is here?”

Dennis smiled and stood beside her, saying, ‘Look over there.”

She looked in the direction where he was pointing. Edward was helping Asher walk their way, and

Gavin,

Andres, and Iliana were next to them, all looking at them with smiles on their faces.

This time, because of work, Darwin and Sasha did not rush back, so they had missed it.

Gavin covered his eyes and shouted, “Ah! Unbelievable! Den actually proposed to a woman!”

Andres rushed over and said, “Mr. Whitney! I’ve made a reservation as the best man! Marie marrying

you is

definitely not wrong!”

Iliana also smiled happily. “Congratulations, Marie.”

Marie’s face turned red. “When did you come? I didn’t even know.”

Andres smiled and said, “We arrived some time ago. We did our best! The whole world knows that Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

Dennis will

propose today, but you didn’t.”

She was speechless.

Did they see all the snot and tears she had just released and the way she had been so intimate with

Dennis?

Gavin smacked his lips and said, “Oh, Marie! I didn’t expect you to be so enthusiastic about Dennis!

That

kiss… Tsk, tsk, tsk…”

She was speechless again.

Dennis raised his eyebrows and looked at him. “Jealous?”

Gavin was dumbfounded.

What was that inexplicable sense of pride?

Asher walked over and said with a smile, “Okay! Okay! The proposal is done! Get things done as soon

as

possible so that I won’t have any regrets!”

Blushing, Marie said, “Grandpa, you hid this from me, too!”

Asher smiled and said, “You can’t blame me for this. They won’t allow me to tell you!”

Dennis took her hand and said, “It’s my fault. I asked him not to tell you.”

Marie glanced at Dennis, who was smiling happily. How could she blame him at all?
