Suddenly There Are Three (Bailey and Artemis)

Chapter 202

Chapter 202

Still, Bailey could not fathom why Rhonda would want Maxton dead.

It is a given for parents to care for their children. Besides, Maxton can bring endless glory and wealth to

her, so there shouldn't be any reason for Rhonda to kill him. Jessica was harmed and had her

memories wiped out because she possessed Rhonda's greatest secret. Could it be that the secret

Jessica knew was related to Max?

“Maxton has indeed recovered as you wish, Ms. Rhonda. The blow unclogged the veins inside his

brain, and the impact caused him to regain a normal mental state.”

After that, Bailey leaned forward and whispered beside Rhonda's ear, “Therefore, you don't have to be

so worried, Rhonda. Your son will be fine. The position as the heir of the Luther family can only be his,

and one day, you can certainly ascend to a higher social status by relying on him.”

At that instant, Bailey vividly sensed the aura enveloping Rhonda's body grow significantly colder. That

observation further verified Bailey's suspicion.

Rhonda seems unwilling to let Maxton become the heir of the Luther family, but why? Don't tell me

Maxton is really not her biological child. That kid has always said that Rhonda is not his real mom. I've

always assumed he was being unreasonable and disliked Rhonda's excessive pursuit of vanity, so he

was unwilling to get close to her. Now that I have reconsidered these things, it seems this matter is not

as simple as I thought. It looks like I should do a maternity test for Rhonda and Max. A scientific test

report will give me the most accurate answer regarding their relationship.

Inside the study of the Luther residence, Bailey leaned against a shelf while gazing at Gerald with her

brows raised as the man sat on the couch.

“If you want to see me because of the matter related to Mr. Simon, this meeting is unnecessary, Mr.

Luther. I've expressed my stance previously. The Luther family does not need to bear the responsibility

for what happened seven years ago. Besides, Mr. Simon has found the woman he loves, so it would

not be appropriate to disrupt his relationship now.”

Gerald frowned at her and replied hoarsely, “My son might not have whetted your appetite, but it seems

my nephew has won your favor. However, have you considered how the public would view this matter?

You gave birth to Simon's children and then proceeded to marry his cousin. Do you want others to treat

us as laughing stocks?”

Bailey arched her brow and curled her lips into a sneer. “So, according to you, Mr. Luther, I am not

allowed to get married for the rest of my life?”

Gerald sighed before saying, “That's not what I meant. You are quoting me out of context. You can

marry anyone else except for Edmund.”

A sly look glinted in her eyes. “Is that so? I can marry anyone except Edmund, including Artemis?”

Gerald suddenly leaped to his feet and raised his voice. “What did you say? You should never kid

around with a joke like that, Bailey!”

She chuckled. “Why are you taking my words so seriously when you already assumed I'm just joking? I

am curious. Why are you stopping me from marrying into the Chivers family?”

He stared at her grimly and uttered, “For the sake of my two grandchildren. I do not want them to be

criticized by others. As their mother, I suppose you do not want them to be scorned by the public,

right?”

Bailey wiped the smile off her face and gazed at Gerald impassively. “I left early during the coming-of-

age ceremony that night because I was trying to avoid this. I did not wish to see Old Mr. Chivers

announce my marriage to Edmund in front of so many people. Are you satisfied with this answer, Mr.

Luther?”

“I am satisfied.” Gerald nodded. He relaxed, beamed at her, and proceeded to speak in a calm tone.

“You are a smart person, Ms. Bailey. I believe you will make the right decision.”

Bailey sneered inwardly.

I am a smart person, but I can't be sure if I can make the right decision.

“I shall take my leave now if there's nothing else, Mr. Luther.”

Gerald waved his hand. “Go ahead. Take good care of the kids. You can call me at any time if you face

any difficulties.”

Bailey nodded. Then, she strode toward the door.

Just after she took two steps away and reached for the doorknob, Gerald's voice sounded again.

“Bailey, are you acquainted with Waverly?”

Bailey was slightly taken aback.

She gradually halted in her tracks, turned around to look at him, and asked with her brows raised,

“Should I be acquainted with her?” Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.

Gerald was stumped.

She smiled mirthlessly and left the study without turning around.

Bailey had just arrived at the stairs when the phone in her hand began to ring.

She glanced at the phone screen and saw that it was a call from Veronique.

“Hello, Vero. What's up?”

Bailey's facial expression changed drastically after listening to something Veronique said.

“Where are you now? Okay, all right. I'll head over there immediately. Don't panic. Inject the child with

an adrenaline shot. I'll reach there in half an hour.”

She dashed downstairs after hanging up the phone. While Bailey hastened down the last flight of stairs,

she stumbled into Artemis, who was heading toward her.

“What's going on? Why are you in such a hurry?”

Bailey did not stop to answer him. Striding toward the door, she said, “I'll take my leave first because I

have a personal matter to attend to. By the way, lend me your car.”

Frowning, Artemis reached out to grab her arm and uttered, “You seem to be in a panic. Did something

serious happen? Let me send you there. I'm worried you'll cause an accident if you drive in this state.”

Bailey knew she could not win against him in an argument, so she did not waste time elaborating

further. “Okay.”

Bailey entered the lab, walking with long, decisive steps.

“You're finally here, Bay. Z-Zephyr's condition deteriorated. His heart rate would not return to normal,

no matter how hard I tried to save him. W-What should I do now?”

Taking in Veronique's fragile appearance, Bailey hurriedly held Veronique and comforted her, “Don't be

scared. I'm here. Bring me inside to check on Zephyr's condition. I will try my best to treat him.”

Veronique calmed down and dragged Bailey along as she sprinted in the operating room's direction.

Bailey instinctively turned her head around and said to Artemis, “Wait out here for a while. I'm going to

check the child's condition.”

“Okay.”

Artemis slightly furrowed his brows at the sight of their leaving figures from behind as they left

anxiously.

Child? Are they talking about the boy Veronique is raising? I suspect the boy to be Justin's child.

Judging by their worried demeanor, I wonder what happened.

He scanned his surroundings before his gaze landed on the table beside him.

He picked up the topmost test report and was shocked after taking a glance at the content.

End-stage leukemia. The child has end-stage leukemia?

He grabbed a few more documents, and each of them showed the diagnosis being leukemia.

Complex emotions churned within Artemis as he grasped the papers in his hand.

If this child is really Justin's son, and I do not inform him even when I know about this, how should I

face Justin in the future if my silence costs the boy's life?

“Artemis. Artemis.”

Bailey's voice brought him back to his senses.

“Hmm, what is it?”

She narrowed her eyes at him and asked with a frown, “What are you thinking about? You were so

absorbed in your thoughts and did not respond even after I called your name a few times. What's the

matter?”

Instead of answering her question, Artemis looked at the report in his hand and asked Bailey,

“Veronique's child is diagnosed with leukemia?”

Stunned, a look of bewilderment flashed across Bailey's face. How does Artemis know Zephyr is

Veronique's child?
