Suddenly There Are Three (Bailey and Artemis)

Chapter 173

Chapter 173

Bailey felt her heart lurch.

“Out with it. Stop talking in riddles.”

Zayron gulped, and in a trembling voice, he muttered, “T-There's really something off with him here...”

Hearing that, Felicity glared over and growled, “Shut your mouth! Don't you dare curse my grandson!

Now get out of my sight!”

Ignoring her, Zayron scoffed coldly.

I doubt this old hag can do anything to me, not while Artemis is still here, so there's no reason for me to

fear her.

After getting the confirmation from her son, Bailey felt her heart wrench.

So, in the end, the worst still happened? This is the last thing I wanted to see... But even if I managed

to treat him in time, there was no way he would have left this incident unscathed, since the drug had

already damaged his nervous system.

After standing rooted to the spot for a while, Bailey walked over to the bed.

However, before she could reach it, Felicity blocked her path. Bailey's tone was unfriendly when she

said, “If you don't want your grandson to live the rest of his life as a mentally challenged boy, get out of

my way.”

Felicity was about to refute her when she was held back by Simon and Caridee. The siblings then

dragged her away.

“Let go of me! You insolent brats! I said let go of me!”

“Mom, please, stop it. If Bailey can save Granddad, she can treat Max, too. This may not be what you

wanted to hear, but Bailey is probably the only person who could save your grandson.”

Felicity halted. In truth, she knew that from a rational point of view, Bailey was indeed the only person

who could save her precious grandson.

But if I accept this woman, won't I be humiliating myself?

Bailey went to stand beside the bed before stretching out a hand to pull Maxton to face her.

“Max, it's me, Bay. Didn't you say that you've always liked me?” Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.

Maxton poked his head out from between his legs and gave Bailey a once-over. The next moment, he

started to giggle while saliva dripped down the corners of his mouth.

Um...

For a moment, Bailey was at a loss on what to do.

Is the boy who's grinning at me with an empty look in his eyes while saliva stream down his mouth

really the cool and handsome young heir of the Luther family?

Bailey could not accept such a reality, and her mind went blank.

Although I was aware that he would become mentally challenged, I didn't expect it would be to this

extent.

“Max, do you know who I am?”

In response, Maxton stared at her for a moment before he did something that completely caught her off

guard.

He put his index finger into his mouth and started suckling on it, all while giggling like a fool.

Seeing the state her grandson was reduced to, Felicity could not bear the shock. Her eyes rolled back

into her head, and she fainted on the spot.

Artemis shifted his gaze from his son and said to Simon, “Take Mom back to the Luther residence. Stay

with her, and don't let her come to the Chivers residence for the time being.”

After he recovered from the shock, Simon did as told and carried Felicity in his arms.

His knees buckled as he staggered for a few steps before he found his balance.

Now that Maxton's become like this, it means that the Luther family just lost our heir. This is a huge

blow to the family. Even I myself can't accept such an outcome, let alone Mom, who loves Maxton so

much.

When Caridee passed by Artemis' side, she advised, “A-Artemis, don't fret over it too much. I'm sure

there's a way to cure Maxton.”

Waving his hand, Artemis replied flatly, “Go and keep Mom company. Watch over her, and don't let her

do anything stupid. After that, call Dad and tell him that his trip can't be postponed any longer. He

needs to come back to Hallsbay as soon as possible. I'm afraid that the Luther family is going to

undergo a huge change soon.”

“Okay... I'll give Dad a call once I'm home.”

After the trio left, Artemis walked over to the bed slowly. With narrowed eyes, he stared at his son, who

was still giggling on the bed. Soon, tears welled in his eyes.

At that moment, he was bursting with rage, and the idea of killing the culprit responsible for his son's

state filled his mind.

Bailey was not any much better, as a deep sense of sorrow and regret swirled in her heart.

Maxton is such a smart child. He would have become a qualified heir to the Luther family in the future.

But now, everything is ruined because of a scheme.

After standing beside the bed for a few minutes, Artemis suddenly turned and rushed out of the ward.

Seeing this, Bailey decided to hurry after him. “Zayron, Susan, stay here with Max. Don't do anything

that'll stimulate or scare him.”

“Got it.”

Standing at the end of the corridor, Artemis was smoking a cigarette. The puffs of smoke surrounding

him blurred his facial features.

Bailey walked over slowly before coming to a stop beside him.

“Seven years ago, I was pregnant with triplets. The first child I gave birth to was a stillborn.”

Artemis whipped his head around to look at her with disbelief written all over his face. “What did you

say?”

Bailey's lips twitched stiffly as she tried to tamp down the agony that was assaulting her heart. She then

flashed a wry smile. “I was pregnant with triplets, but I gave birth prematurely. My eldest died, so I

guess you can say that the rumors aren't all fake.”

Artemis pursed his lips.

I had no idea about this.

He never thought that underneath her positive and tenacious appearance lay the painful experience of

losing a son.

“You...”

Bailey smiled, and her voice cracked as she uttered, “I'm not telling you this to win your sympathy. I'm

only sharing my story because what I experience then is the same as what you're experiencing now.

I'm well aware of the fact that any pain suffered by our children is reflected on us parents a thousand-

fold, so I know just how painful it must be for you to see Maxton like that.”

Artemis took a deep breath. With a hoarse voice, he replied, “I'm sorry I got you to talk about your

painful past. I didn't expect that you were pregnant with triplets. The Luther family owed you and your

stillborn too much.”

Bailey shrugged as though it was no big deal. “It was simply a one-night stand, and there weren't any

feelings involved. I've already disregarded his existence, and I managed to get through all these years,

so it doesn't make sense for me to start acting all pitiful now. Anyway, I'll do my best to cure Max. After

all, apart from doing my duty as a doctor, he's Zayron's cousin.”

Stretching out his hand, Artemis stubbed out his cigarette. Recomposing himself, he responded, “You

were willing to recall your traumatic past just to comfort me. I will remember your kind gesture. I find

that I'm lacking in every way when compared to you.”

Smiling, Bailey replied, “No matter what happens, life must go on. As long as we are still alive, we must

go through whatever obstacles fate put in our path, so cheer up. Know that at least you're luckier than

me, as you haven't lost him yet.”

Artemis did not reply to her.

The first thing that Rhonda did after finding out about Maxton's condition was to rush into the Chivers

residence.

Gwendolyn tried to stop her, but Yoel held her back.

Yoel told her that no matter what happened, Rhonda was still Maxton's mother and that it would be

unethical if they were to stop the woman from seeing her sick child.

Gwendolyn could not find a good refute to her husband's righteous words; she could only lead Rhonda

to the infirmary reluctantly.

Staring at the giggling boy on the bed, Rhonda cried her eyes out.
