Chapter 41
Scarletts P.O.V
After what feels like hours sitting cuffed at the police station, you're surprised when Kirk comes stalking
into the room, a man dressed in formal attire following him. You shift in the uncomfortable seat you've
claimed beside the desk of the officer who arrested you, frowning with confusion as he nears you. Kirk
glances at Oliver over a bench beside a vast window overlooking the street.
"You're both coming with me"
"What?"

unhand cuff you.
"This is the chief of police, Ron. Him and I went to high school together, lucky for you two"
Ron removes the cuffs from you, and steps back. You sigh with relief, bringing your arms forward to rub
at your aching wrists. You frown when you notice red, chaffed skin from the metal, before you clear
your throat.
"What?"
"Your father explained everything. I'm letting you off with a warning"
Ron glances at Oliver, and quirks a brow.
"Its your lucky day"
It feels pretty un-fucking lucky for the most part.
"Thanks again, Ron. I really appreciate it"
Ron shakes his head as he nears Oliver.
"Don't worry about it, Kirk. Think of it as payback for Lauren Greer"
Your confusion is evident when they both chuckle about some inside joke. Oliver's gaze darkens warily.
"So, you're just letting me go? No charges or anything?"
"No charges. I know Rick Donald. He's a scumbag. Always has been an abusive SOB. And your
mother attested it was self defence"
You cover your mouth, smothering your gasp of surprise on your lips at the mention if his mom coming
to his aid. Oliver's furrowed brows relax as his eyes widen slightly.
"She did what?"
"She attested to his abuse. She's going to testify"
Olivers speechless at the news. He shakes his head slightly, eyes blinking rapidly before he clears his
throat and stands. He doesn't make eye contact with you, instead he moves quickly and wordlessly out
of the police station. Ron frowns and Kirk shakes his head.
"Don't worry about him. He's a stubborn one"
"Most kids his age are. My sons just as much of a damn handful. I'm sure he'll have his fair share of
trouble with the law soon"
"Well, good thing his dad is chief of police"
"Yeah, poor dad"
Ron chuckles, and offered Kirk his hand to shake.
"Thanks again"
"No problem"
You move quickly, seeking out Oliver as you make it out on the steps of the police station, but he's
nowhere to be found.
Where the hell did he go?
You jump when you feel a hand on your shoulder. Kirk gives you a small apologetic look.
"Just let him go. He walks when he's upset. Helps get some of he anger out"
"Oh"
I just hate the thought of him upset. All I want to do is be there for him, but I understand needing space.
You follow Kirk to his car, resisting the urge to run and find Oliver and encircle him in your arms.
