Chapter 1623
Sabrina glanced at her watch and said, "You two should head home now. Bettie is on her way back."
"Why do we have to leave before she comes back? Tyrone asked.
"Exactly!" Jennie echoed.
"If she sees you here, I will be questioned by her," Sabrina replied.
Jennie pouted. 'Doesn't she like me?"
Sabrina clarified, "She doesn't like your father."
Bettie was reasonable. Though she liked Jennie, she never forgot Jennie was the child of Keilani and Tyrone.
*Tyrone, maybe you should go home alone." Jennie didn't want to leave. She really missed the days when she stayed over and slept with Sabrina.
Tyrone picked Jennie up and grunted, "No. You will bother Sabrina if you stay. We have to leave together."
"Oh, come on!" Jennie had no choice but to rest her chin on Tyrone's shoulder and wave at Sabrina. "Bye, Sabrina." "Bye."
A few minutes after Tyrone and Jennie left, Bettie walked in with her suitcase.Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
Sabrina was supposed to pick Bettie up from the airport, but now that she was pregnant, she erred on the side of caution and avoided driving. She had hired a driver. This time, she sent her driver to pick Bettie up.
"You're back." Sabrina smiled.
"Yeah," Bettie answered absentmindedly as she walked directly to her room, dragging her suitcase behind her. Sabrina's brows furrowed, sensing Bettie was acting a little odd. Usually, when Bettie returned from a business trip, she would push her suitcase aside, collapse on the sofa, and start to state what bugged her amid her trip. This time, however, Bettie simply walked directly to her room without much to say.
Sabrina stood up and walked to Bettie's room. She knocked gently on the door and asked, "Bettie? Are you okay?"
"Fine." Bettie's reply echoed inside her room, her voice faint.
"May I come in?"
"Sure."
The second Sabrina pushed the door open, she was met with Bettie lying on the bed with the suitcase in the corner. "I'm exhausted," Bettie murmured.
Sabrina breathed a sigh of relief. "Phew! I thought something happened to you. Just get some rest. I'll make dinner." "Okay."
While Sabrina was busy in the kitchen, Bettie came in with a water bottle. She washed it and left. A few minutes later, Bettie returned to the kitchen to get a teacup. A minute later, she came in to look for tea leaves in the cupboard.
"I thought you didn't like tea." Sabrina couldn't help asking.
"I want to drink it all of a sudden."
"You're acting weird today. Did something happen during your business trip? Sabrina asked tentatively.
Bettie paused, gathering her thoughts before speaking. "Lance came to see me while I was on the business trip." Sabrina was stunned. "He's back? Did he pester you again?"
"Yes..."
"What an annoying man! What does he want from you when he already has a girlfriend? Does he always bug you?"
Bettie blinked. She cleared her throat and tried to change the topic. "He said Keilani is Royce's niece, and he only regards Keilani as his sister, the same way he treats Alice. He had shown me the surveillance footage. It was Alice who hugged him, and he pushed her away immediately."
Sabrina gaped at Bettie's words and circled Bettie a few times, inspecting Bettie's form from every angle.
"What are you doing?" Bettie asked curiously.
"I just found you became easily fooled by men's words like me."
Bettie was speechless.
"Anyway, go on." Sabrina waved her hands.
"He said he could work at the Ramirez Group for my sake and help me win over the shareholders. By the time my half- brother joins the company, he won't be able to achieve anything since Lance has practically made the company mine. That way, my father had no choice but to hand over the company to me."
Sabrina took a moment to absorb Bettie's words, sensing Lance was up to something. "What's his condition?"
"On condition that I agree to marry him. Only in this way could his assets turn into mine. We can make some agreements first before getting the marriage certificate."
Sabrina's eyebrows arched. "Are you tempted to agree?"
Bettie walked up to Sabrina and hugged Sabrina from behind. She placed her chin on Sabrina's shoulder, a thoughtful expression on her face. "Well, it's not bad. What do you think?"
Sabrina thought for a while before replying. Your agreement before marriage holds no effects. If it becomes a court case or something equally murky, he'll have Royce in his corner every step of the way. It's easy for him to tear up the agreement and string you along."
Lance was smart. Regardless of his intention, his proposal had taken advantage of the situation and had Bettie stuck around him for a few years. Lance and Bettie had been together in the past. Lance was handsome and capable. If they lived under the same roof for some time, it was highly probable that they would make up and become a real couple.
However, since Bettie was tempted to accept Lance's condition, Sabrina wouldn't dissuade her. Instead, she would find a way to help Bettie stay protected.
"Then what should I do?" Bettie ran her fingers through her hair.
Sabrina suggested, "You could get a fake marriage certificate with him if you really need his help. After that, you urge your father to have Lance in the company. Then, you hire a lawyer to sort out the details about the arrangement of your property and the company share."
"Well... Alright." Bettie kissed Sabrina's face and exclaimed, "It's so good to have you around!"
Sabrina simply smiled.
Sabrina's prenatal checkup was scheduled for Monday.
When Sabrina went downstairs, she found Tyrone already standing by the car and waiting for her.
As Sabrina approached, Tyrone quickly opened the door of the back seat and helped her in. "Watch your step."
After she got in, Tyrone walked around to the other side and got in. Then, he leaned over and fastened her seat belt for
her.
Sabrina wanted to tell Tyrone that she could manage but decided to hold her tongue after some thought.
Tyrone seemed to read her mind and said, "It's wise to exercise caution."
Then, he gently wrapped his arms around Sabrina, his eyes closed. He beamed and stated, "Sabrina, I'm so happy."
"What?"
"We are going to have our own children. I'm very happy. Thank you."
Tyrone unconsciously emphasized the words "our own children". Despite his promise to Royce to treat Jennie and his child with Sabrina equally, deep down, he knew he might not make it.
Tyrone adored Jennie for her being pleasantly smart and polite. Yet, upon learning Jennie was his own, he was simply shocked. Jennie's helplessness tugged at his heart, but he couldn't find joy in the truth that had been revealed.
As for his baby Sabrina was expecting, Tyrone had been over the moon from the very second he found out Sabrina was pregnant. However, he couldn't express his joy in front of Jennie, not wanting to upset the sensitive Jennie. It was only when he was alone with Sabrina that he could let his true feelings show.
Sabrina understood his underlying message. They used to love Jennie, but now they didn't dare talk about her.
*Jennie... She is cute and smart. She is really a good girl..." Sabrina said softly.
"I know." His affection for Jennie had never wavered, demonstrated by his efforts to make the share transfer agreement, granting her a future without worry about financial issues. He was merely looking forward to the birth of their child more.
'Stay away from me." Sabrina smiled and pushed lightly at his shoulder. "It's hot. I'm not feeling well."
"Okay."
