Chapter 110 Fool
Chapter 110 Fool
Britney went to the hospital the next day to visit Irene. Irene's ankle had started to recover after
treatment. Nathan was there too, holding Eden.
The three of them were playing games happily, and the ward was filled with laughter. Looking at their
happy faces, Britney stood at the door and looked at them as she was overwhelmed with mixed
emotions. If she hadn't stopped Irene and Nathan in the past, they would have gotten together, and
their children would have already been attending kindergarten at least!
The three of them stopped playing when they saw Britney. "Grandma, you're here!" Nathan greeted
her.
Britney walked in and smiled at Irene, asking, "How do you feel?" This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
"I feel much better after getting treatment. I don't think there's any need for me to stay in the hospital
anymore," Irene replied.
"That won't do. You'd better listen to the doctor's instructions and stay in the hospital for a few more
days for observation," Nathan interrupted.
"Yeah, stay in the hospital for a while longer. Don't worry; you have us," Britney said gently.
After a while, Britney left and Nathan walked her out. At the entrance of the hospital, Britney held
Nathan's hand, saying earnestly, "You're very busy with work, right? You shouldn't stay in the hospital
all day long. I'll call the servants from our home to come and take care of Irene."
"Grandma, don't worry about it. It won't affect my work." Nathan smiled. "Let's set aside the fact that
Irene and I are good friends. You're the reason why Irene is injured. As the White family's eldest
grandson, my conscience won't allow me to not take care of her."
Hearing that, Britney's expression changed slightly. Nathan seemed to be reminding her to not forget
the fact that Irene saved her. Was he hinting at her to agree to the relationship between him and Irene?
Britney returned home glumly.
After she got home, Britney sat on the sofa and was lost in her own thoughts. Even though she had
lived for a long life and had experienced a lot of things, she never thought that she would be in such a
dilemma one day.
She didn't completely hate Irene; she only felt perturbed because of Nathan's change. However, after
Irene saved her regardless of her own safety, Britney suddenly found that the way she viewed Irene
had changed. She even started to pity Irene a little. But when she saw Nathan and Irene getting along
happily that day, that uncomfortable feeling had returned to haunt her again.
Even though Joanne was a slow person, she had asked a good question. If Irene used the fact that she
saved Britney as a card of negotiation in order to get together with Nathan, would Britney object or not?
Britney felt very uneasy. People's hearts were unpredictable. She was afraid that Irene saved her
because Irene had ulterior motives. While she was thinking about it, Irene had already bought a flight
ticket to return home.
The day after the next day was Myra's death anniversary. She had to go back to tidy up Myra's grave.
Irene's sudden return made Britney remorseful as she realized how narrow-minded she was; she
shouldn't have gauged Irene with her own presumption and imagination. She felt so guilty that she
deliberately went to see Irene off.
Upon looking at Nathan holding Eden and saying goodbye to Irene, Britney felt touched. They were
supposed to be a couple, but they weren't able to become an item because of her selfishness. That
was the first time that she thought that she was cruel.
When Irene was about to enter the security check, Britney couldn't hold it in anymore. She went
forward and held Irene's hand. She told Irene something that even the latter was surprised at. "Irene, if
you love Nathan, you can continue on doing whatever you're doing. I will never object to you two
again!"
Sitting on the plane, Britney's words buzzed in Irene's mind. It was true that those words of Britney
were heartfe Irene could feel that. But, they were told far too late.
If Britney had told her that seven years ago, she would have been ecstatic; but right then, after
experiencing so many hardships, she had lost the courage to fall in love again.
Her only wish right then was that Eden could grow up healthily and happily. As long as Eden was fine,
she was willing to suffer any trial or tribulation.
The plane landed safely at the San Fetillo Airport. Irene walked out of the security check and took a taxi
back to the rented house. She reported to Thomas about Eden's condition, but did not mention her
being abducted at all.
Thomas was delighted to hear that Eden's health was in a good state. After talking for a while, Irene
returned to the Cook family.
On the way back, she decided that right then was the time to face Edric. During the time when she was
abroad, she had received a lot of missed calls, all of which were from Haverland. She was familiar with
none of them.
Irene guessed that those phone calls must be from Edric. Edric must've realized that Irene had
blacklisted his phone number; that was why he tried to contact her by changing to another number.
Of course, Irene didn't care about Edric as the very purpose of her going abroad was to avoid him.
However, for Eden's sake, she had no choice but to return to him. Her ovulation period was coming
soon. No matter how much she hated him, she had to compromise for Eden.
Irene pushed open the door of the Cook family's house before she saw Lily and Edric sitting on the
sofa in the living room. Of course, Steven and Deborah were also there.
The four of them were chatting away happily. The atmosphere was extremely pleasant.
Her appearance disrupted that good atmosphere. Lily was the first to respond. "Irene, you're finally
back."
Her words sounded very kind and warm, as if she missed Irene so much. Irene ignored Lily and went
upstairs with her luggage. After taking a bath, she went downstairs and at that time, Steven told
everyone to head to the dining hall to eat.
Irene got up and took the lead in walking to the dining room. There were fragrant dishes on the table.
Lily told Maisy, "Maisy, serve the soup first. Drinking soup before a meal can help people lose weight."
Maisy followed Lily's order and served soup for everyone. Irene smiled coldly. When she hadn't yet
divorced Edric, Edric would always serve her soup before a meal, saying that drinking soup before a
meal could make people lose weight too.
In order to maintain her figure, drinking soup before a meal became a habit of hers. She really didn't
expect that Edric would use the same trick on Lily too.
Maisy put the soup in front of Irene, but she didn't drink it. Instead, she pushed the soup aside and
said, "Maisy, I'm not used to drinking soup before a meal! Get me some food."
"Okay." Maisy quickly replaced the soup with food.
Lily chimed, "Irene, I remember that you used to like drinking soup before a meal, didn't you?"
Irene didn't look at Lily. She slowly took a bite of the food and chewed it carefully before speaking.
"I used to drink soup because I wished to appear beautiful, and I wanted to lose weight. But now, I find
it to be quite silly. A person who truly loves me wouldn't leave me just because I am ugly."
Edric's eyes lost their gleams at once. Irene, too, had a weak stomach. And since she refused to take
the necessary medications, Edric told her that if she had soup before the meal, she could lose weight.
This was a white lie to make her drink the soup obediently.
However, he didn't expect that Irene never understood his painstaking efforts. Instead, she said that a
person who truly loved her wouldn't mind if she put on a few pounds.
After taking a few sips of soup, Steven asked Irene, "Did you go abroad this time to meet Nathan?"
Irene did not answer him, but Deborah deliberately remarked, "Mrs. White didn't make things difficult
for you, did she?"
Irene put down her utensils. How could she let it slide? She said, "Thank you for your concern, Mrs.
Cook. Mrs. White didn't make things difficult for me. She even said that if I love Nathan, I can continue
to do so. She won't stop me anymore!"
Steven was surprised to hear that since he knew about Nathan and Irene's past.
In the past, they didn't get married because of Britney's opposition. Because of Irene, Nathan was
single all those years. If Britney not opposing them seeing each other was true, it would be excellent
news. The White family was a huge, affluent family, and Nathan's love for Irene was quite obvious. If
they could get together for real, it would be a great thing.
At the thought of that, Steven cleared his throat. "When will you bring Nathan back to let us meet him?"
"Let's talk about it when we have time in the future!" Irene answered ambiguously. She only relayed
Britney's message. As for whether others believed it or not, it had nothing to do with her.
Edric strengthened his grip on his utensils. He held back the anger that was about to spread from his
chest and picked up some sliced-up meat for Lily who was next to him. "This is very nourishing. Lily,
you should eat more of it."
Lily was flattered. Irene looked at Edric and Lily with a smile and said, "Edric, my brother-in-law, you
are so kind to my younger sister!"
That was the first time Irene called Lily her younger sister. Edric choked on his food and was out of
breath for quite a while upon hearing that.
At that moment, Steven took a piece of meat and put it on Irene's plate. Irene then pulled out the meat
that Steven had just given to her and stated, "Please don't give me this fat and greasy meat. It's
nauseating."
At the same time, Lily was enjoying the meat that Edric had given her, but when she heard Irene's
words, she suddenly felt a little disgusted.
After dinner, Irene excused herself and went back to her room to rest. The reason Edric went there that
day was that he heard that Irene had come back, but he didn't expect that he didn't even get to say a
word to Irene. He knew that there was no chance to talk to her anymore that night, hence he left after a
short while.
The next morning, Irene changed her clothes early in the morning and went out.
The cemetery that Myra's tombstone was at was on a hill, in the west of the city. It was very far away.
After a long while, Irene finally reached the cemetery. She bought some flowers at the foot of the hill
before walking up the hill.
From a distance, she could see a flower at the front of Myra's tombstone. It was not a chrysanthemum,
but a bright rose. Irene walked over in confusion. Myra loved roses very much when she was alive.
Who was the person who put the roses? Was it Steven? After thinking about it, she shook her head.
Steven wasn't the type of person who would miss his dead wife.
Irene cleaned up the weeds in the area and quietly sat in front of the tombstone, staring at Myra's face
on the tombstone.
Myra's smile was so bright and dazzling. Irene had personally experienced betrayal before, thus she
naturally knew Myra's despair and pain at that time. She could not help but ask softly, "Mom, do you
regret it?"
Myra was looking at her with a smile that was as gentle as before. Irene reached out and touched
Myra's face. "You lost your life for a man that wasn't worth it and left me behind. You are such a fool!"
Then, the sound of footsteps came from behind her along with a voice of surprise. "Myra?"
