“Even if I don’t marry her, what can you do about it?”

Anderson glanced at his watch before striding over to Sonia, his eyes sharp. “Times have changed. Arranged marriages mean nothing to me now. Do you think I’ll care if the Fisher family calls off the engagement ?

“What I need is an obedient and understanding Mrs. Barlow. Isabel might have grown up with me, but if she can’t behave, there are plenty of others who know how to be a good Mrs. Barlow.”

To Anderson, relationships were not essential. Isabel was beautiful, but his peace of mind was more important.

Sonia’s voice turned stern. “Are you defying me?”

“I’m not defying you, I’m just stating a fact. In Belchester, there’s more than just one Isabel.” With that, Anderson put his hand in his pocket and left the office.

Sonia was enraged and repeatedly hit her cane on the floor. “You ungrateful bastard! Are you trying to be a heartless scoundrel? Isa has been waiting for you for 12 years, and now, you want to abandon her?”

Anderson paused at the doorway. “If the Fisher family wants to call off the engagement, they’ll have to face the consequences.”

“You bastard, stop right there!”

Ignoring her, Anderson walked out. Right when Anderson opened the door, Shane could hear the angry shouts coming from the office. It was clear Anderson had truly angered Sonia this time.

Shane then followed him to the underground parking lot. In the car, he

asked, “Mr. Barlow, are we heading to Ms. Sandler’s school?” This is from NôvelDrama.Org.

Anderson glanced at an empty parking space, then looked away, lost in thought. He remained silent, and Shane didn’t press further.

Ten minutes later, Mayra came out of school and got into the car. She

took the back seat without saying a word.

Shane asked, “Mr. Barlow, which restaurant should we go to?”

With his legs crossed and his hands on his knees, Anderson said in a low voice with his eyes closed. “Are you not answering my calls now? You’ve gotten quite bold, haven’t you, Mayra?”

As Mayra remained silent, Anderson reached out to her, but Mayra pulled away. “I don’t want to talk to a man who’s disloyal.”

Feeling carsick, Mayra leaned against the window to avoid his gaze.

Anderson commanded, “Head to the restaurant from last time.”

Mayra stubbornly said, “No, I want barbecue.”

Anderson’s eyes narrowed. “Let me take you somewhere better. Shane, drive.”

The car started moving.

The aroma of spicy food filled a small alley where food trucks were parked. The sound of squeaky fans added to the noisy ambiance

Mayra grabbed a pair of tongs and started picking out various ingredients to grill. Once she was done, Anderson, looking out of place in his black suit, pulled out his wallet to pay.

Shane could hardly believe it. He never imagined Anderson would come to such a rundown spot for street food.

“Sir, the usual. No spice and extra sauce.” Mayra said

“Got it,” the vendor replied.
