Chapter 28 Chapter 28. Alpha Kex’s POV.
| woke up with a throbbing headache, and my first thought was, “Where am |?” | looked around and realized | was in Nelly’s room. But Nelly was nowhere to be found.
| struggled to remember how | had gotten here. The last thing | remembered was eating. Had | passed out? Was | drugged? | tried to stand up, but my head swam, and | nearly fell back down.
Just then, the door opened and Nelly entered, a smile on her face. She held out a cup in her hand. “| brought this for you,” she said, her tone light and cheerful. “It will help with the headache.”
| took the cup from her and brought it to my lips, not knowing what to expect. The smell was pleasant, almost sweet. As | took a sip, the liquid slid down my throat, soothing my sore throat and easing the pounding in my head.
“What happened last night?” | asked, feeling a knot of apprehension in my stomach.
“| don’t know,” she replied, her voice low. “You were acting really strange. Almost like you were a different person.” She looked up at me, her expression neutral. “What do you remember?”
| shook my head. “Nothing. | feel like | have a hole in my memory.” She nodded, her gaze fixed on the floor. “Thank you,” | said, standing up to leave. ‘I will talk to you later.”
She didn’t look up, just murmured, “Okay.”
| opened the door and nearly collided with a figure that stumbled into the room. It was Emily, her face red with embarrassment. She was attempting to fix her clothes, which were in disarray.
“What are you doing here?” | asked, my voice stern. She looked at me with wide eyes. “I came to check on you,” she said, her voice shaking. “You weren’t yourself last night.” “So you were spying on us?” | asked, my anger rising.
“No, no,” she stammered, taking a step back. “I was just... | was worried, | was here yesterday.” | turned away from her, my mind racing. | needed to find out what had happened. |

and | ran a hand through my hair. “Sorry, Emily,” | said, my voice weary. “I’m just angry, and | didn’t realize | was lashing it out on you,” | said, rubbing my hair.
My shoulders Sa “What is it, Kex?” She asked, her voice tight with worries. “I need to know what was added to the food and who sent the maid,” | said, my jaw clenched.
Emily glanced around, her eyes darting back and forth as if looking for an escape. Finally, she met my gaze, her eyes determined. “I know who did it,” she said, her voice low.
“Who?” | asked, my impatience evident. “I'm not going to say,” she said, her words defiant. “You are going to fight over this, Kex. Just let it go.”
But her words only made my anger flare. “No, | won't let it go,” | said, my voice growing louder. “I need to know who did this. | need to know who is behind this.”
| turned to face her, my eyes blazing. She took a step back, her expression frightened. “You are scaring me, Kex,” she said, her voice trembling.

| felt my blood turn to ice. “Why didn’t you tell me?” | demanded, my voice rising.
“| didn’t know it was for you,” she said, her voice trembling. “I thought it was for her. And | would rather not meddle in your affairs.” My head was spinning, my mind reeling.
“Why the fuck would she do something like that?” | mumbled, mostly to myself.
“Maybe to disgrace you,” she said, her voice tentative.
“Disgrace me?” | repeated, my voice incredulous.
“Yes, Kex,” she said, her tone growing more resolute. “Everyone would say the strong Alpha is now weak. She wanted to make a fool out of you.”
| shook my head, still reeling from the information. “You stopped her?” | asked, my eyes narrowed.
“Yes,” she said. “I warned her and made sure you didn’t leave the room to make a scene, or else | won't hesitate to deal with

“Please, Emily,” | said, my voice strained. “Let me through.” “No,” she repeated, her gaze unwavering. “I won't let you do something you might regret.” | glared at her, my temper rising. “You don’t understand,” | said, my words tinged with desperation. “I have to do this.”
Without thinking, | reached down and scooped her up in my arms. She let out a yelp of surprise, and began to struggle against me.
