Chapter 119 Whiskers
Avery remembered it after hearing what Jack said. She had seen many weirdos, like Jacob's health
freak buddy who soaked goji berries in his thermos in a club where people mixed champagne with ice
cubes.
Moreover, that weirdo wore an eye mask and soaked his feet in some herbal water while blabbering, "If
we don't take good care of ourselves now, we will fall sick soon." when others held some hot chicks in
their arms.
Besides that guy, Jack was the weirdest person Avery had ever seen. Jack had been terrified of any
animal with sharp teeth and fur ever since he was a kid.
Back then, when Jack came with Rudolf to celebrate Martin's birthday, Jack ended up getting chased
by a cat and stuck up in a tree, too scared to come down.
A lot of kids were laughing at Jack under the tree. Only Avery grabbed that white cat by the neck and
looked at him with a grin. "Don't be scared. I got it! Just give me your hand, and I'll help you get down."
"Oh, Jack! Are you still scared of cats now?" Avery recalled that moment and couldn't help but burst out
laughing.
"To overcome this fear, I've kept a bunch of cats at home, and now, I'm no longer afraid of them. So,
how's Whiskers doing?"
It cast a glum look on Avery's face. Whiskers was a thirteen-year-old cat. When the Adams family went
broke, Avery was pregnant. Later, Martin had an accident. By the time Avery went to pick up Whiskers,
the Adams house was already empty, and Whiskers was nowhere to be seen.
"She's gone. Maybe she's become a stray, or maybe she's already dead," Avery responded.
When Avery married Jacob, she had wanted to bring Whiskers with her. But Jacob hated furry critters,
so she never brought it up.
Seeing the disappointed look on her face, Jack whispered, "Two years ago, I found a white cat. It looks
quite old. I'm not sure if it's the Whiskers you're looking for."
Finally, Avery's face lit up. "Do you have a picture or something?"
"Yes."
Jack quickly whipped out his phone and showed a photo of a white, long-haired cat chilling under a red
plum tree, staring at the blossoms with its deep blue eyes.
"That's Whiskers!"
Avery got a little excited. Whiskers had lost a chunk of her ear because a rat bit it off when she was out
for fun, and that was her most distinctive feature.
"When I found this cat wandering around the street, her ears kind of reminded me of the ones I saw
when I was a kid. Hence, I decided to take it in, and it really turns out to be your cat, Avery. I have a lot
of videos of Whiskers. Do you want me to show them to you?"
Avery sat down on the circular sofa, staring intently at Whiskers in the video.
"It's clear that you've been taking good care of Whiskers. She's no longer young but still so lively, and
her fur is so shiny," remarked Avery.
Jack grinned. "Whiskers is a good girl. She loves staying under the plum tree as if she's waiting for Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
someone. I used to wonder what she was thinking, but now I realize she has been waiting for you,
Avery."
Avery fixed her gaze on the white cat under the plum tree, tears welling up in her eyes. She gently
glided her fingertips across the cold screen as if she were touching Whiskers' soft body.
"It's my fault. I lost her."
She lost the Adams family, she lost Martin, she lost her baby, and she even lost Whiskers.
"Don't worry, Avery. Whiskers has never gone through any hardships. When I have some free time, I
can send her back to you."
Avery shook her head. "Nah, just keep her. I can't take care of her right now."
"All right? May I have your contact information? Then I can send you videos of Whiskers from now on,"
asked Jack.
Avery initially wanted to decline because she was not planning on surviving and leaving the cruise ship
today, and she thought it was pointless to give Jack her contact information.
But Jack had helped take care of her cat for so long. She was too embarrassed to say no.
Then, Avery pulled out her phone, exchanged contact information with Jack, and friended him on a
social media platform right there.
Layla, who was watching this whole scene, found it extremely ironic. She mocked and whispered in
Jacob's ear, "See? I told you that Avery is a sl*t. It hasn't been long since you divorced, and she's
already friending another dude."
