Chapter 276
When she came out of the shower, she saw her children playing with her phone.
Charlie held up Anne's phone and asked, "Mama, what's the password?"
"Mama changed her password," Chloe complained.
"Why?" Chris asked.
"I want to watch cartoons," Charlie said.
Anne grabbed the phone and keyed in the password. By the time the triplets turned to look, the phone was already unlocked, so they did not catch sight of the password.
Her children had excellent memories and could often memorize things after seeing them only once, so Anne had to make sure that they could not see it. She would be terrified to death if they tried to send messages or call Anthony behind her back.
She tried to look for cartoon videos and suddenly received a call.
"Mama needs to take this." Anne stood up and left the room.
The triplets immediately hurdled up to discuss.
"It's not Papa."
"Doesn't look like it.
"Mama looks different."
Indeed, it was not Anthony, but Sarah who was calling.
"What is it?" Anne asked.
"Let's meet tomorrow. Are you working tomorrow? We can go for dinner after you get off work. I will decide where we eat."
Anne saw no reason to refuse and agreed.Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
Perhaps it was because she felt like she owed Anne. Sarah had been trying to compensate and had been doing whatever she could to get closer to Anne ever since she got a divorce. She would frequently ask Anne out for dinner or ask if she wanted to move in with her. If Anne refused, Sarah would offer to cook for her, so Anne would often come home to steaming food on the dinner table.
Anne was not stone-hearted and felt moved by Sarah's effort. All things aside, she still cared about Sarah, and they had always interacted like mother and daughter years ago. She simply had not taken the step to call Sarah 'Mom'.
Anne stood by the door and watched as her children played on the bed. Even if it was to be a good example to her mother, she could not neglect her own mother.
The next day, she got off work on time, and Sarah drove by her office building to pick her up. Sarah's car was not as luxurious as the one she owned before.
As soon as Anne got into the car, Sarah handed her a cup of milk tea. "I bought this on the way. I heard it's good, but don't drink too much of it, or you won't be able to eat much later."
"You aren't having any?"
"I'm fine. I'm on a diet right now. Our metabolism slows down after turning thirty, so I shouldn't be drinking any of that. It might make me look older than I actually am." Sarah felt chills down her spine at the thought of it. "You are still young, so you can eat whatever you want."
Anne took a sip from the straw.
Sarah continued driving and asked, "How is it?"
Anne nodded. "It's nice."
"That's good to hear. I will buy you another next time."
"It's fine, I can buy it myself." Anne did not want to trouble anyone, even if that someone was her own mother.
"You don't have to be all polite with your own mother. Eat and do whatever you want, and I will try my best to satisfy your every need."
Anne quieted down as she recalled the cruel words she had said to Sarah before about how she had grown up and did not need a mother any longer.
The truth was that she simply did not have the courage to ask for a mother.
Sarah seemed to have noticed Anne's struggle and simply chuckled before changing the subject.
Sarah had picked a high-class restaurant, and Anne already knew it was going to be expensive without having to look at the menu. Naturally, her assumption was later confirmed when she did look at the menu.
"Let's not order too many dishes. It's too expensive here."
"I was a member of this place, and I have a deposit that I need to spend anyway," Sarah dismissed it.
Anne knew just how extravagant Sarah's previous lifestyle was and decided against protesting any further.
