Chapter 665
Chapter 665
Serenity sat in the car and looked out the window, watching the landscape moving past her quickly. She hummed softly, filling the car with a soothing and gentle tune.
Jackson arched an eyebrow. He waited until Serenity had finished humming before asking, “What song is this?”
“Walk of Life, a classic.” Serenity explained, “Granny loved it. She was the one who taught me to sing this song. I used to sing
it all the time, but I couldn’t understand the meaning of the lyrics when I was younger. The older I got, the more I understood the meaning of the lyrics.
“A nice song indeed,” Jackson agreed.
“Yeah. It’s a shame Granny can’t teach me anything anymore,” Serenity murmured, a tired look on her face. © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
Serenity had barely slept for the past few days. She had spent most of her time sitting beside Granny’s casket or busy with the funeral, only sleeping three to four hours because she did not have time to sleep.
“If you’re tired, just close your eyes and rest. It’s two hours away by car,” Jackson said.
Serenity hummed in response softly, and Jackson helped her adjust the seat to a good angle for a comfortable nap. Serenity leaned her head against her seat and upon closing her eyes, she fell asleep within a few minutes.
Jackson stared at Serenity’s sleeping, face for a moment. Then, he took a silver bracelet out of his pocket.
This familiar–looking silver bracelet was identical to the one Lucas carried. It was a pair. One was with Lucas, and the other was lying in the box of relics Emily had left for Serenity.
Emily had handed the box to a close friend for safekeeping before her hospitalization. If Emily passed away, Serenity would get the things inside.
Emily was just an old lady from a small town. The relics in the box were naturally nothing of value, just some jewelry from Serenity’s late mother and Emily. Serenity’s late mother had left some of her jewelry with Emily. Later, Emily had added some of her own and left it to Serenity.
The silver bracelet seemed out of place in the pile of jewelry. Fortunately, Jackson was the first to get the bracelet. Serenity would overthink things if she found it. The bracelet might remind her of something related to Lucas, which was the last thing Jackson ever wanted.
Lynette had replaced Serenity, and Lucas had finally found the girl‘ he had been looking for. Hopefully, this would be the perfect ending to this whole saga.
Jackson gently touched the cold silver bracelet, hiding the calculating look under his lashes.
Jackson had always been ruthless and would achieve his goals by any means necessary. There was nothing wrong with that. Lately, however, Jackson felt a heavy heart whenever Serenity looked at him trustingly. It was almost suffocating
“Hey, don’t blame me,” Jackson muttered almost silently, holding the silver bracelet tightly in his palm.
“Were you caught by the bad guys? I’ll get you out of here. The bad guys won’t catch you again.” A child’s voice rang out. The childish voice sounded like her voice when she was younger. No, it was her
voice.
The little girl in a floral dress looked only about eight or nine years old. It was her as a child!
