No More Waiting, She Chooses Love

Chapter 672

I looked up and saw an elderly couple, hand in hand, walking into the station with a mix of anxiety and unease.

As the officer assigned to greet us was about to rise, I beat him to it and stood up. "Sir, Ma'am."

This couple was Judie Sears' parents. They both turned to me, and after a brief moment of astonishment, Lily blurted out, "Judie..."

"She's not Judie," Judie's father, Joseph Sears, quickly corrected his wife.

The flicker of joy on Lily's face immediately collapsed into heartbreaking sadness.

I quickly approached them, "Sir, Ma'am, what seems to be the problem? What brings you here today?"

I had jumped ahead of the officer's script, and now he came over as well. "If you two are here to file a report, please come with me."

Joseph and Lily remained still, already beginning to share their troubles with the officer. "For the past few days, someone's been vandalizing our door, threatening us with harm if we don't comply with their demands."

Hearing this sent a shiver down my spine, and I saw the officer frown in concern. "Do you know who this person is? Any idea why they're targeting you?"

The couple shook their heads, and Joseph sighed, "We have no idea who it could be."

"How long has this been going on?" the officer probed further.

"About three, three to four days now," Joseph glanced at his wife for confirmation.

Lily nodded, her eyes fixed on the officer. "Officer, you must help us..."

"Don't worry, we'll do everything in our power to protect you. But right now, we need your cooperation to get all the details," the officer gestured for them to follow. "Please come with me."

Joseph looked at me, his mouth opened as if he wanted to say something.

For some reason, his demeanor tugged at my heartstrings. "Go ahead with the officer. I'll finish up here and join you shortly."

"Alright, alright," Joseph quickly agreed, clearly hoping I would follow.

The officer led them to another room to continue the process, and I quickly wrapped up my part before joining them.

Once again, they recounted their ordeal, emphasizing their lack of acquaintance with the perpetrator.

"Did the vandal say anything specific? Like asking for money or anything?" the officer attending to them inquired.

Joseph nodded, "They demanded

Saying we wouldn't need t

it

anyway, suggesting it'd be better off with them than being donated after our passing."

Hearing this, I suspected an insider job, someone familiar with their situation.

"Have you flaunted any wealth recently?" the officer continued his line of questioning.

Joseph shook his head, "Ever since our daughter's incident, we've kept to ourselves, avoiding contact even with

Ose friends and relatives."

"Any unusual contacts or interactions in the recent period?" the officer methodically covered all bases.

Eventually, when asked about security measures like surveillance, they admitted their system had been out of service for a month.

The premeditated aspect of the harassment, combined with the broken surveillance, painted a grim picture.

"Sir, Ma'am, we've recorded

everything you've reported. We'll assign officers to keep watch and catch this individual. For now, try to go about your daily routines as usual," the officer concluded before seeing them out.

Despite having filed their report, the palpable air of fear and unease around them was undeniable.

I hurried to catch up with them. "Let me drive you home, Sir, Ma'am."
