Chapter 47
Once Zack had finished speaking. Linda looked over at William.
William’s face grew stem. He locked eyes with Zack and said deliberately, “Mr. Xander, show us your evidence.”
Zack knew Linda wasn’t standing up for William like she used to. He could see it in her reaction when she heard Williams name, So he wasn’t concerned that making a few remarks about William would bother Linda as it had before.
“How could I possibly not have evidence?” Zack pulled out his phone and played a recording.
“Zack you know I’m a man of gratitude, but my hands are tied. I’m a physician, but I’m also a son, al husband, and a father. I have to protect my family.”
“Who told you to go after Mr. John? Mr. John has treated you well. Is this fair to him? You’re the backbone of your family, but isn’t he the same? Mr. John has to support the whole company!”
“Zack, I truly had no choice. Mr. Tom and Mr. Wilson abducted my family. I couldn’t just leave them. I stepped back from Mr. John’s treatment a long time ago. I only pretended to be involved so you wouldn’t suspect anything.
“Mr. John was just unfortunate in the people he trusted. Linda’s poor judgment is exactly why Mr. John ended up with such a son–in–law. After everything he did, he ended up losing his life.”
“Are you sure you’re telling the truth?”
“I know I’ve wronged Mr. John, so I wouldn’t lie to you. If you don’t believe me, investigate it yourself. With your abilities, I’m sure you’ll uncover the truth.”
Linda recognized the voices in the recording it was Zack and Bryan Cartwright, John’s attending physician back then. She cast a mournful glance at William. “So, Mr. Wilson, you came here to prevent me from learning about this, right?”
William was left dumbfounded. He had indeed met with Tom back then. Tom had vaguely laid out a plan, claiming it would keep Linda in check. William wasn’t paying attention and didn’t think it through.
He was fed up with Linda and went along with the idea of making her regret her actions. He never expected the plan would involve going after John. Was he the indirect cause of John’s death?
“No, back then… Linda…” William stammered.
Linda smiled, but tears trickled down her cheeks.
“You hated me so much back then. None of this surprises me, she said with a sudden calmness that made William uneasy. “Come at me if you hated me that much. Why drag my family into this?”
William reached for her, but she rose and backed away.
“William, you make me sick. When I was willing to give you my all, you treated me like trash and cast me aside. Now that I’ve moved on, you act like you’re all loving and committed. Can’t you see that your late

devotion is meaningless?”
Linda had learned to control her feelings over the past four years, but now she couldn’t help but sob out loud.
“I’ve often wondered why, even after I was gone, you kept investing in and handing over projects to Felix Group. Despite knowing Tom was siphoning off the company’s assets, you continued. So, it turns out you were in cahoots all along, huh?”
Linda felt her love over the past ten years was utterly pathetic. She had fallen for someone like William, so she deserved whatever came her way.
William was at a loss for words. He watched as the spark in her eyes faded away, much like it had four years ago when she signed the divorce papers in the hospital, consumed by despair.
“Linda, please hear me out. I didn’t know that when Tom said he’d teach you a lesson, he meant going after your father. I might not have liked you much before, but I’d never do anything to hurt your father, especially with how much the Wilson Group depends on Felix Group.”
William was desperate to explain, but Linda was having none of it.
“Do you even buy your own story, William?” Linda asked with a sudden smile. “Because I sure don’t.”
