Chapter 2258
Chapter 2258
I made my way to the Golden Roof Restaurant and saw Freya by the entrance; she must have been waiting a long time.
As she led me over, she explained, "Here, I got some people to stand guard."
"How sure are you that it's drugs?" I asked softly, clutching onto my last shred of hope. God's favorites, Evan and Hendrix, should never have gotten themselves caught up with the nasty stuff.
"On a scale of one to ten, I'd say nine." Freya sighed woefully, not wanting to say a word more.
At the end of the corridor on the first floor, two tall and brawny bodyguards were stationed outside the room's entrance, their intimidating faces were like an invisible barrier warding people off.
Freya paused by the door and asked one of the bodyguards, "Did anything happen?"
"Everything is normal," the bodyguard answered.
"Good." Freya nodded. "Open the door."
"Got it," the bodyguard responded respectfully, took out the key, and unlocked the additional safety lock on the door, before pushing the door open. We entered the room to find it empty.
Freya exchanged glances with me and guessed that he might be hiding. "Might be in the bathroom."
As she spoke, she pushed the bathroom door open, but there was nothing. There was a pried-open hole in the ceiling, which originally held the exhaust fan. It was big enough for an adult man to pass through.
The situation was extremely clear, he had made a run for it.
Freya was upset. "Gosh, I won't even eat him, why would he run?"
I looked at the distance between the exhaust fan and the floor. Though there was a chair, it would still take a lot of energy to climb up. Freya had said that Evan had been injected with drugs, so his body probably was drained and lacking strength. Even so, he'd still wrung out every last bit of his energy to climb up.
Thinking of the tensed voice on the phone earlier, a wave of indescribable poignance washed over me. "Who would ever want their close ones to see themselves looking like that?"
He had always been bright and beautiful, how could he permit others to see him in his most miserable state?
Even for a spectator like me, I was
still hoping it was all a fluke and thought that just because I had never seen it with my own eyes, something like that had never happened, even more so for Evan.
"No, it can't be." I suddenly came to my senses. If Evan had been harmed this way, what could have happened to his wife?
With that in mind, I immediately
called the assistant of the company
and retrieved his house address. I needed to confirm their current
situation, safe or otherwise, with my
own eyes.
After ending the call, I gave Mullen a call. Knowing she was staying nearby, I agreed to meet her at the entrance.
At this moment, Freya was silently watching from the side, not giving a single opinion, but she seemed a little hesitant, like she wanted to say something.
Afraid that something might have happened to her and she doesn't want to trouble me, I intentionally asked her as I put my phone away, "Is there anything else?"
Freya shook her head and recovered from her thoughts. "No, are you leaving now?"
"Yes." I nodded affirmatively but felt guilty again. "Evan got into trouble in the afternoon. It'll still be too late even if I go now. But I have to go."
Freya paused for a moment and
then nodded slightly to show her understanding. She then asked, "What meant was, Hendrix will come over later. Don't you want to meet him before you go?" NôvelDrama.Org content.
"Why is he coming over?" I asked.
"I informed him," Freya explained, "Evan is one of his men. How could he not show up when something has happened?"
As soon as she finished speaking, there were the sound of footsteps by the door, followed by the voice of the security guard: "Mr. Roberts!"
Upon hearing the voice, I looked over and saw Hendrix walking in with an expressionless face.
He was not even surprised to see me here. He calmly dragged his gaze across the room, and not seeing Evan, he looked in our direction and opened his lips. "Where is he?"
