Chapter 2166
Chapter 2166
As soon as I had comforted Anne, I got up and went upstairs.
Before entering the room, I sensed something and turned around. Around the corner, there was a huge vase, it was about half a man's height. A small segment of children's clothing was sticking out from behind it.
While only a small part of the clothes were visible, it was enough to reveal who it was.
I pretended not to have seen anything, calmly turned the doorknob and entered the room.
No one was in the room. I could hear the shower running from inside the bathroom. I walked over and leaned against the bathroom wall, speaking loudly to make sure that he could hear me. "You know, that kid Neal, he's so curious. He seemed to be watching us whilst we were negotiating with Quinn and the others."
Or perhaps Aurelia had told him to do so, I wasn't sure.NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
"Go on," Hendrix prompted with his deep voice.
I pursed my lips and decided to get right to the point. "Why did you send Josiah away?"
The world had changed tremendously after all these years, but I remembered it clearly. At first, I was the one who had trouble accepting Josiah. Hendrix had always believed that his brother would turn out to be a good person, so why the sudden change of heart?
As soon as I finished speaking, the bathroom door swung open. Hendrix came out, wrapped in a bathrobe as he wiped his hair with a towel while walking into the room. "There's no reason to keep him around anymore."
He was sitting on the sofa as he said this.
"But Anne is used to having him around." I walked over and propped my hands on the back of the couch, trying to express Anne's feelings as best I could.
Hearing this, Hendrix paused and turned to look at me. He smiled helplessly and said, "Even so, don't you realize what the problem is, my dear wife?" I frowned and was confused. "What is the problem, pray tell?"
By all accounts, Josiah had been with Anne for much longer than we have. Aside from that, he has proven to us that he bears no ill will, and since Anne likes him, there was nothing for us to worry about.
"Come here." Hendrix patted the sofa next to him and gestured to me to sit down.
In a somewhat impatient manner, I turned around and asked, "Are you ready to tell me now?"
Hendrix smiled then placed his large hand over my shoulder and forcefully turned me over. His bony palms began to massage my taut muscles.
I could the sores on my muscles
melting away heaved out a sigh of relief. We had such a hectic time at the hospital. Even though most of the time was spent standing and sitting around, we never actually got any proper rest. I had forgotten about that, but Hendrix hadn't.
"It's very simple." Hendrix pressed my back while speaking slowly and methodically, "All would be well if Anne just gets used to having Josiah around. However, didn't you see them earlier? When it came to dealing with an organization like the one Quinn is in, they both chose to keep us in the dark?"
"Fair enough." I nodded. I had to admit that Hendrix's conclusion was reasonable. "This matter truly lacked consideration."
The international tabloids had their
own comments about how dangerous people like Quinn were. As for Josiah, this wasn't his forte, and Anne had yet to gather enough experience. It was inevitable that Quinn would find out their weaknesses during their
interactions. If Quinn toonove
advantage of them and cornered them, the two of them wouldn't have even known what had led to their downfall.
Hendrix attempted to teach Anne this lesson by making an example out of her. The lesson was good, but the method was much too aggressive. Josiah was a teacher who had known Anne ever since she was a child. I was afraid that if we sent him away forcefully without giving him a chance or without considering Anne's feelings, she would only distance herself from us.
"How about a more lenient punishment?" I suggested, "It's always better not to be too harsh. The way I see it, Josiah won't necessarily listen to your instructions and leave right away."
From a woman's point of view, if a man failed the woman who loved him and gave birth to his child, he should stay with the child for the rest of his life to atone for his sins. It should remain the same whether it would be six or sixty years.
We should consider it a bad situation that came from good intentions this time around. It was impossible for anyone to live a life completely free of mistakes. No pain no gain, wasn't it?
