Chapter 0312
Chapter 0312
A shiver coursed through Sonia as she grasped the chilling truth. Despite her naivety, she finally comprehended the situation at this very moment.
She questioned, "Did you get close to me to get your hands on my company documents from the start?"
Xavier countered, "Of course not. You genuinely captivate me, and my feelings for you are real. It's just that I've been informed of how Alex values that document and keeps it out of everyone's reach. He even had Candice deliver it, leaving me wondering what was so special about it—"
He paused at this point. Then, he glanced sympathetically at Sonia and continued, "It's so crucial that he keeps it hidden from his own girlfriend, but he trusted Candice to deliver it. Aren't you curious about the content?"
Xavier's remarks resounded in Sonia's mind like a haunting song. She was aware that the uproar had occurred a few days prior when Candice was spotted handing documents to Alex at the office.
The fact that Alex hadn't even told her about the existence of this important document was all the more fascinating.
Sonia's gaze hardened slightly. She couldn't help but be intrigued as to why Candice had access to this confidential paper while she remained in the dark.
Meanwhile, Candice received word that Ivor wanted to speak with her.
While on her way to jail with Jackson, she received a call from Shawn.
As Candice picked up, Shawn's robust voice was heard, stating, "Candy, the photos are ready. When can you drop by?"
She replied, "I'm a little busy right now, so maybe in a few days."
Though Shawn seemed disappointed, he quickly offered, "No problem. Carry on with your work. I will arrange for them to be sent to you."
Candice quickly consented after assuming that Shawn would send Bruno.
Following the call, she proceeded to jail.
When she arrived at the jail, Candice was led to Ivor, who looked notably less arrogant and more fatigued.
Ivor didn't wait for Candice to sit down before he began, "That bitch was conversing with your mom, and I happened to be in the bathroom. Initially, I considered recording it to blackmail her, but you now have that knowledge at a bargain."
Candice raised an eyebrow, caught off guard by Ivor's declaration.
Jackson had already informed her upon her arrival that a family member from Ivor's hometown had visited him recently. It appeared that some pressing issue had prompted Ivor to abruptly change his stance.
Indeed, as Candice remained composed, Ivor's eyes betrayed a flicker of annoyance.
With a rough gesture, he combed his tangled, dirty hair before making a solemn request.
"Give me one hundred thousand dollars, and I'll reveal its location," he stated.
Candice looked up in surprise at Ivor's words. Considering that one hundred thousand dollars was the least he had ever requested, she had braced herself for a higher figure.
She knocked on the table, seeking clarification with a simple, "Why?"
Ivor's gaze was filled with a tumult of emotions.
The realization that Ivor needed the money not for himself but for his son's medical expenses sent a shiver down Candice's spine.
As she exited the jail, a sneer of contempt remained in her gaze. She pondered over what Yvonne's reaction would be upon learning that the man who had wronged her and Peach had a two-year-old child elsewhere.
She wondered if Yvonne would regret her impulsive decision to marry him, knowing Ivor was prepared to give up everything, even to demean himself before Candice, for his son's sake.
Candice swiftly let go of these thoughts, acknowledging that Yvonne's decisions were hers alone.
After speaking with the prison staff, Candice acquired Ivor's phone. It was an old, unbranded, and heavily damaged device. It was challenging to power on.
Her next steps were to have the phone fixed by a reliable person and then find the recording mentioned by Ivor.
Once everything was in order, she got a call from Alex, who asked curtly, "Are you free?"
"I'm buried in work," was Candice's response.
There was a brief silence before Alex's voice grew a little heavier. He said, "Shawn wants me to deliver some photos to you. Where should I meet you?"
Candice was taken aback that Shawn had chosen Alex for this task. She averted her eyes and murmured softly, "You—"
"Let's not waste time," Alex cut in sharply before Candice could elaborate.
His voice was stern, indicating he was not in a good mood.
Candice experienced a moment of heaviness as she shared her address.
Half an hour later, Alex made his appearance, arriving in his understated luxury Maybach right where Candice was. The car door opened, and Alex got out with a chilly demeanor and gave Candice a document bag.
Candice took the bag with her tone subdued and said, "There was no need for you to come in person. Kayla could've brought it to me."
Alex regarded her with a look that carried deep, unresolved intensity, and countered, "Would Grandpa be okay with that?"
The motives behind Shawn's actions were unmistakable, and Candice found them undeniable.
With a cold chuckle, Alex mused, "I'm curious about what you did to earn his favor to this level."
Candice's gaze subtly lifted as she responded evenly, "Didn't you show me how?"
Alex had introduced Candice to Shawn. He had methodically prepared her for the first time they met by informing her of Shawn's interests and preferences.
Candice might be charming all she wanted, but she would always be an outsider. It was improbable for Shawn to hold her in such high regard without Alex's significant influence.
Alex's typically icy expression momentarily softened at Candice's indifferent comeback, almost as if a gust of wind had briefly cleared the perpetual darkness in his eyes, making them seem a bit more serene and clear.
He tightened his jaw. His demeanor turned more stern yet self-controlled as he observed, "It seems you've merely mastered the art of flattery."
Candice was always candid about her learnings and experiences with Alex. She didn't refute this, but she saw little value in furthering such a discussion.
With a nonchalant nod, she spoke matter-of-factly, "Thanks for making the effort to deliver the photos, Mr. Elysian. I have other matters to attend to now."
As Alex listened, his gaze sharpened. He casually clicked his tongue and said, "You seem relaxed."
As he pressed on with those last words, his voice came across as weary.
Candice halted her steps. Kayla had informed her that Aether Corporation had been pushing hard recently, with the employees frequently working overtime, especially since Alex was serious about landing a contract with Solaris.
After a minute of reflection, she glanced back and softly rebuked, "Well, it's true that I feel much more relaxed after leaving your company."
As Alex locked eyes with Candice, his dark eyes revealed a profound intensity. Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
His phone rang just as he was about to speak.
He lowered his gaze, and a little scowl formed between his brows.
Candice seized the moment to depart with the documents. She hadn't moved far when she caught Alex's sharp demand, "Say it again?"
Sawyer's voice, which was laden with urgency, broke through, "Horizon Holdings has unexpectedly approached Quinton Holding with a proposal that's exactly the same as what we've proposed."
