Natalie avoided Austin’s gaze and forced a smile. Mr. Powell, I think you may have

misunderstood. I just got divorced not long ago, and I haven’t moved on from Jeremy’s yet. I’m not planning to date anyone for the next few years.”

Austin’s expression gradually darkened as he fixed his eyes on Natalie. She couldn’t bring herself to meet his intense gaze.

After a long silence, Austin finally spoke again. “I won’t accept your resignation. Come back to work tomorrow.”

“Mr. Powell, I’m sorry.”

Austin continued to stare at Natalie for a moment before standing up and leaving.

After he left, Natalie sat in a daze for quite some time. Eventually, she snapped out of it and realized her takeout was getting cold. She started eating while her mind wandered.

Making such a decision was best for everyone. Sometimes, it was easy to put an end to things before they had a chance to develop, which would help avoid future complications.

During her years with Jeremy, she learned what it was like to be in a marriage that didn’t meet

her family’s expectations.

Moreover, Austin’s family situation might be even more complex than Jeremy’s, and her involvement could cause him trouble. And as for love… it tended to fade over time.

As dusk approached, Steven found himself with some free time and invited Skylar to a barbecue at a night market.

It had been a long time since they had gone out for a barbecue together. Skylar was excited about their meeting that evening because Steven was bringing a friend along. She had a hunch about who that friend might be. She arrived early at a popular barbecue restaurant.

By the evening, every barbecue restaurant in the area was bustling with customers.

Just a few minutes after she arrived, Steven walked in with a girl who looked even younger than Skylar.

She appeared to be in high school, with a fresh, clean demeanor that exuded innocence and beauty. Without any makeup, her oval face and glistening skin made her undeniably charming.

“Hi, I’m Skylar Sullivan.” She greeted her first. The girl stared at her in awe as they shook hands. “I’m Mona Silva.”

After they released hands, Mona couldn’t help but turn to Steven and exclaimed, “You never told me your sister was this pretty. She looks just like a female lead from a novel I would write.

Upon hearing her words, Skylar couldn’t help but laugh at Mona’s cuteness. Steven looked at Mona with a hint of affection in his eyes. “You can probably tell how she looks by looking at me.”

Skylar raised an eyebrow. She pondered when she had failed to notice this narcissistic side of Steven. It seemed that ever since Steven started being with Mona, he had become more vibrant and alive. There was a kind of energy about him that she found unfamiliar.

“You’re not wrong, but she’s even prettier than you,” Mona earnestly complimented.

Skylar felt a rush of happiness from the compliment. She placed the menu in front of Mona and said, “Take a look and see what you like. Steven’s treating us tonight.”

“What do you both want to eat? I’ll treat you guys. I just got paid today,” Mona said excitedly. She was overjoyed.

Just when she was struggling with the female lead setting for her new story, she met Skylar and found instant inspiration.

She was so stunning. Mona had thought Steven was already eye–catching, but his sister was even more radiant.

Just as Skylar blurted out “lamb skewer“, someone suddenly approached their table and greeted them.

“What a coincidence!”
