Chapter 91
Gentlemanly and graceful, he had a presence that was hard to ignore.
Selena's eyes briefly showed a hint of disappointment, but she quickly hid it. With genuine surprise, she asked, "Dr. Campbell, what brings you here?"
"Doctors often volunteer for rural medical trips, and I happened to have some free time, so I signed up for a trip here."
Callum's gentle gaze fell on her fresh, makeup-free face, her skin so flawless it was as if a goddess had wandered into the human world.
"I didn't expect to run into you here."
Selena chuckled softly. "Life is funny like that, isn't it?" She added, "I came back home to visit my parents' graves."
Callum nodded. "I understand."
As the conversation hit a lull, Selena couldn't help but remember that night of the wedding, and she instantly became uneasy. She had tried to piece together what exactly happened with Callum, but her memories were just a jumble of hazy fragments. Considering her less-than-stellar history, she couldn't convince herself that she hadn't done something embarrassing. After avoiding the topic for days, Selena took a deep breath and decided to face it head-on.
"Dr. Campbell, about that night... I drank too much. I must have been a real nuisance. Thank you, and... I'm sorry." Selena stumbled over her apology, silently vowing to steer clear of alcohol in the future!
Callum shook his head with a reassuring smile. "No worries at all. You were quite well-behaved after you got tipsy."
"Really?" Selena's eyes widened in disbelief, pointing at herself. "Dr. Campbell, are you sure you're talking about me?"
"Yeah." Callum nodded, completely sure.
Selena stared at him, stunned. She couldn't help but admire how kind he was, going out of his way to ease her embarrassment with such kind words.
She suddenly remembered how
Everett had described her when she was drunk he not only called her a madwoman but also warned her not to drink recklessly again, to avoid tarnishing the Bennett name and embarrassing him and the entire family.
It had been ages since someone treated her with such kindness, and she felt a little emotional.
Grace walked back into the house, and seeing that Selena hadn't followed, she mumbled to herself, not truly upset, and turned to head back outside.
Unexpectedly she spotted Selena chatting with a man with a gentle demeanor and a polished look. He was clearly someone from the city. Her eyes lit up at the sight. "Selena, is this your husband? You little brat, were you teasing me earlier?" Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Selena didn't expect her grandmother to return, nor did she expect her to mistake Callum for Everett.
What a mix-up!
She quickly tried to explain, "Grandma, he's actually..."
But Callum chimed in, cutting her off, "Grandma, it's a pleasure to meet you."
Grace moved closer, giving Callum a once-over. She found that she liked what she saw more and more, and didn't hold back her praise, "The young man is indeed good-looking and dignified, very impressive." Before long, the neighbors gathered around, too.
Selena was taken aback. Was he really going along with this?
Amelia, Grace's close friend, came right over. "Grace, did Selena bring her husband home? Oh my, he's such a looker, even better than the celebrities on TV."
Amelia was someone who spent her
downtime scrolling through videos on her phone, familiar with many stars. Still, she thought Selena's husband was even more striking, truly fitting for someone from Newport's most prestigious family.
