Love's Redemption

Redmption 57

Redmption 57

Conrad paused and stared at me suspiciously.

I smiled tartly. “Olivia fixed it.”

I then passed his bag to him. “Go tidy up and rest. I’m going to pack some things.”

He nodded in reply, and I returned to my room.

There were still Chris‘ and my things in the room. Clearly, no one had stayed. there after I left.

It seemed like Chris hadn’t stopped by either. Where had he been staying these. past few days?

Was he at Dazzle Residences, also known as Jewel’s neighborhood?

That thought caused my chest to ache dully. It seemed like I had successfully uprooted Oliver from my heart, but I would need some time to heal the gaping hole he left behind.

I didn’t let myself hang onto that thought for any longer. Instead, I opened my suitcase and began to pack my things.

I had gotten into the habit of not letting myself hoard too many material belongings, so I didn’t have many clothes or other possessions. A single suitcase was enough to contain everything.

I was almost done with putting my things away when someone knocked on the door. I opened the door to see Conrad.

He had changed his clothes. He looked past me and into the room, frowning when he saw the unzipped suitcase. “Are you moving out of the Gildon estate?”

“Yeah. It would be awkward to overstay my welcome,” I said as I turned around and continued packing up.

Conrad entered the room and looked at the open wardrobe. Chris‘ clothes were still hanging in there, and Conrad clenched his fists at the sight.

“You were with Chris for so long,” Conrad said slowly. “Can you really bear to leave like this?”

Could I bear to leave? Why did everyone ask me the same thing?

I paused before replying, “Conrad, you should know how good I am at breaking things off.”

Conrad remained quiet. I continued to pack my things away and zipped the suitcase once I was finished. Just as I was about to reach out and take it off the bed, Conrad held it down.

I looked up and met his gaze.

His gaze was clear. It was entirely different from the chill in Chris‘ gaze and the dark shadows in Brandon’s. His eyes gleamed like a clear and unsullied lake. It was so pure that it even made me feel serene.

“Maddie, you once said that this was your home,” he said in a low voice. His tone cast an invisible pressure on my shoulders that made it hard to breathe. Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

I knew he wanted me to stay.

“Do you really think it’s okay for me to keep staying here?” I said, pointing at the pillows pushed together on the bed. “Do you really want me to keep sleeping in the same bed as Chris after breaking up?

Something in Chris‘ gaze changed, but it flitted by so quickly that I couldn’t make it out.

He retracted his hand and said in the same low voice, “Are you going to come back in the future?”

“Of course,” I said with a smile.

However, I knew that even if I did come back, it would be once in a blue moon. In fact, I might not come back at all.

don’t know who came up with the idea of staying friends with one’s ex after a breakup, but it was a stupid idea that I knew I didn’t subscribe to.

“Will you still see me the same way?” Conrad asked sadly.

My heart suddenly ached bitterly, but I did my best to keep a smile on my face.” Of course. You’ll always be the same Conrad to me.”

“Then…” he trailed off after a single word. He looked at me with a deep gaze,

clear but dark like the depths of a lake. “Can I hug you?”

I froze. Before I could reply, he had already pulled me into his arms.

His warm breaths fell against my hair gently. I could feel the warmth against

heart. I shivered slightly.
