Lost and Found: Return of My Mysterious Fiancee

Chapter 710: Establishing a New Department

On the outskirts of the city, within a certain manor, a woman in a crimson dress lounged lazily on the sofa.

"Take this and try it on the people listed. Remember, you must succeed with Natalie," she directed.

"Could this possibly spook the target?"

came a young man's voice, crackling with static and tinged with caution.

If Tina were here, she would surely recognize the voice.

The woman, holding a wine glass, half her face shrouded in darkness, replied, "That's exactly what I want-to let her find out. It wouldn't be fun otherwise." Her fingers, painted with bright red nail polish, tapped lightly against the glass.

"If you are scared, I can always find someone else. But then, there would be no antidote for the poison in your system."

"No, no..."

the man hastily replied, "I agree! But, you know I can't beat Tina. And I've heard that Natalie always has someone protecting her..."

"What a hassle," the woman muttered impatiently.

She wouldn't be bothering with such incompetents if she didn't need the resources at her disposal.

Leaning forward, she set down her glass and turned to another person in black, "You, go to the capital. Make sure you bring back Natalie's DNA sample."

The cloaked figure before her didn't dare lift his head as he responded solemnly, "Yes."

Meanwhile, having taken care of their basic needs, Tina and Jared had also arrived at Mr. Watson's residence at Hartwood Manor.

The gatekeeper, with a frosty gaze sweeping over them, saluted neatly, "Please show your IDs."

Unsurprised, Jared handed over the pre-prepared documents, explaining to Tina, "Mr. Watson, being a key figure, has his residence heavily guarded. Outsiders are subject to thorough scrutiny and searches." "Searches?"This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

Tina's eyes twinkled with understanding.

No wonder her uncle had told her to leave all her weapons in the car before their arrival.

However, her clear eyes surveyed the tall guards around, "Don't you have any female officers? I worry my uncle might get jealous."

Jared felt resigned. So in her eyes, he was the jealous type?

Tina: Isn't that obvious?

After verifying their IDs, the guard looked momentarily taken aback and exchanged glances with his colleague.

Blushing slightly at Tina's slender figure, he said, "One moment, I'll call Mrs. Marshall over."

At Mr. Watson's place, flies in the air were male, let alone the caretakers and his daughter who worked in a secret unit elsewhere.

Usually, the visitors here were highly important-all male. Female guards or leaders were rare.

Fortunately, Mrs. Marshall, having worked for the Watson family for decades, was experienced in these matters.

Upon being called by the guard, she followed him out. After confirming that Tina and Jared carried no dangerous items, she ushered them into Hartwood Manor.

"Mr. Watson, Mr. Farrell, and Miss Reed have arrived," she announced in the study.

Mr. Watson, sitting upright, his aged eyes sharp, looked at the middle-aged man before him.

"Let them sit in the living room for a while; I'll be down shortly."

As Mrs. Marshall's footsteps receded, Ruud spoke up, "Mr. Watson, then I'll leave you to it; I'll come back tomorrow."

Mr. Watson gestured dismissively, "No need, sit behind the screen and listen; it won't hurt."

Ruud paused, "Alright."

Was Mr. Watson trying to limit his contact with Jared?

The man stepped into the shadows of the screen, his eyes dark and brooding. Shortly after, Jared and Tina were led by Mrs. Marshall into the study. As soon as she entered, Tina felt an overwhelming aura of authority pressing down on her. With a subtle movement of her cool gaze, she followed Jared and together they greeted, "Mr. Watson," while discreetly sizing up the elder seated at the head of the room.

Tina had collaborated with various authoritative bodies on numerous occasions, having encountered many dignified or stern leaders, most of whom were reserved. There were many like Ian and Logan, but she had never met anyone like the old man in front of her, who exuded an indescribable ferocity. His face was deeply lined, yet he still resembled a prowling tiger, formidable to behold.

"Please, sit," Mr. Watson said with a slight nod.

Jared led Tina to sit in front of Mr. Watson, his eyes filled with respect.

"May I ask, Mr. Watson, why have you summoned us so late?"

he inquired.

Mrs. Marshall placed three cups of clear tea before them, and Mr. Watson took a sip. Once the sound of the closing door was heard, he slowly began, "Today, I've been specially instructed to inform you of a matter."

Tina's gaze remained calm, but suspicion began to rise within her. What kind of issue would not go through the X Bureau but needed to be communicated by a military zone leader?

Jared appeared to share her thoughts and was about to question when Mr. Watson, anticipating their queries, his sharp eyes flickering, interjected, "The X Bureau is currently unstable. Even after restructuring, the higher-ups do not plan to rely on it again. Jared, both your actions and skills, along with Miss Reed's, have been fully recognized by the authorities. Therefore, they hope that you can establish a new department dedicated to national security."

Tina immediately looked at Jared, unsurprised as their eyes met. A flash of understanding passed between them.

Jared, lips slightly pursed, said, "I suspect, however, that's not all they mean, is it?"

Sinoria already had its own security bureau; creating another department would clash with its functions.

Evan Watson, not intending to conceal the full intentions, cleared his throat and continued, "Indeed, the main task is as stated. However, there is another assignment they wish you to undertake." "What is it?"

both Jared and Tina asked in unison.

Evan Watson's gaze was sharp as a blade as it swept over them, "You are both aware of the existence of the hidden families. No one in Sinoria knows how long these families have existed. In the past, due to their merits and the nation's dire need of rebuilding, the leaders of the time did nothing against them."

"Indeed, over the years, no Sinorian leader has excessively suppressed them."

Tina and Jared listened quietly, their eyes bright with a shared realization.

Predictably, Evan Watson's tone shifted dramatically, "However, people from the hidden families must never hold high positions within the government. The two powers must balance each other out. Lately, these people have become too ambitious. The authorities have noticed their intentions to usurp power but lack evidence. Your other task, then, is to investigate these hidden families and uncover evidence of their subversive activities!" "I have a question," Tina said calmly.
