CHAPTER 94

Summer Frost POV
It was difficult to
put the kids to sleep, but I eventually successfully did it, and finally left their room after spending one full hour with them.
However, I stopped as soon as I stepped out of their room and spotted Xander leaving his room which was just two rooms away from the kid’s. He paused and looked in my direction when he noticed that I was standing
“I thought you were asleep already. Why are you still here?” He looked at me surprisingly, and I walked up to him.
“I was putting the kids to sleep,” I replied once I stood in front of him, and he pulled a puzzled look
“Do you do that every night?”
“Chloe used to do that for me back home, but since she’s not here now, I have to do it myself,” I shrugged, and he slowly nodded.
“How about Ella? She didn’t give you problem, did she?”
“Not really. They are all asleep now,”
“Oh,” He mouthed.
“Are you going to bed now?” He tucked his hands inside his pockets as he turned his full attention to me.
“Not really. I’m not sleepy yet,”
“Do you want to grab a drink in the garden? I was going to get fresh air there. We can go together if you don’t mind,” Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
“Sure,”
“Go ahead. I’ll join you shortly. I need to go get a bottle of wine—”
“Non alcoholic, please,” I reminded him before he walked off since I wasn’t a heavy drinker and I didn’t want to be in a mess.
Once he left to go get the drink, I headed to the garden to wait for him.
The fresh air and the scent of the beautiful flowers welcomed me. I could not hold my smile back as I closed my eyes and took a deep and long breath. For a second, I could not think of something else as I was filled with the sweetness of the scent.
I was disrupted by the sound of the approaching footsteps behind me which made me open my eyes, and I found Xander walking in with a bottle of non alcoholic red wine and two glass cup when I looked back.
“I didn’t keep you waiting, did 1?” He walked over to stand beside me, but I shook my head.
“Do you want to sit over there?” He pointed somewhere, and when I looked in the direction, I realised that there
ere was a set of chairs in the
garden.
“Sure,”

He led the way while I trailed behind him.
An awkward silence crept into the atmosphere as we sat side by side, staring into space. It was quite intense, and I was a bit uncomfortable.
I noticed the sad look on his face when I looked in his direction which got me worried and curious.
“Are you ok? You don’t look like it,” I asked once I sipped from the wine, causing him to glance at me with a smile on his face.
“Hmm… I’m fine.” Even as he nodded and tried to cover it up with a smile, I wasn’t so dumb not to see the sadness in his eyes which had me questioning myself what the problem could be.
“You don’t look like you are fine, anyway. But if you say you are, then I’ll assume you really are,” I shrugged, and I heard him scoff.
“I missed the old good days,” his voice drew my attention to him as I looked at him briefly and looked away.
“I missed us,” He further said, and my heart fluttered.
“I missed the old Xander… I missed when everything was still in place,” I looked at him, and the sadness in his eyes was evident of the pain he might be feeling in his heart.
I wasn’t an exception. I missed everything back then, and I wished we could go back to those days when we used to be the sweetest couples
ever
“You can still do it now. It’s not too late. You really can‘ My subconscious mind reminded me, and as much as I had a whole lot of hope, I was unsure of what the future had in store for me. I had no idea what was going to happen to me later.
Something crossed my mind, and I gave him a long stare before turning my face away. For some reason, I wanted to know if he was with another woman while we were separated. Has he been celibate the same way that I have been?
“You look like you have something on your mind. Let it out,” His voice came on, and I bit my lip.
“I was just curious about something.” I shrugged and exhaled sharply.
“About what?”
“About everything. About how you’ve been living while we were apart from eachother. Just about everything,” I didn’t want to sound desperate by being specific, so I just generalised it.
“Nothing much. I’ve just been here, working over the years. Been on a couple of blind dates, but none worked out…” He paused, and I looked at him as waves of anger surged through me, but I tried to hide it
“I couldn’t get her picture off my head,” His next words had me looking at him, wondering who he was referring to.
“I tried to get over her and move on, but it was hard to, not because I was hurt, but I really missed her. My heart yearned for her, and I wanted
to see her every second of my life,” My heart fluttered when the realisation dawned on me who he was referring to. It was myself.
A smile formed on my lips as I turned my face away.
“Ever had a girlfriend?” My curiosity kicked in again even though his reply was quite clear enough to answer that.
“What could make a sterile man want to start a relationship
ship with a woman knowing it’ll never work out?” He scoffed, and I looked at him.

“Would you have gotten into one if you knew you were not sterile?” I was disappointed by his answer, but at the same time, excited that he never slept with another woman.
“If the woman was Summer, I definitely would’ve done that,” He glanced at me and scoffed.
My cheeks flushed excitedly as excitement flooded my heart. Isn’t he so sweet?
“Whatever!” I muttered and took a sip from the drink which wasn’t so cold anymore.
We spent a few more minutes in the garden before I stood up.
“I’m going to bed. Good night,”
“Hmm… Good night,” He smiled at me, and I nodded before turning to leave, but a sharp pain shot through my ankle, and I limped.
“Are you ok?” He rose to his feet and quickly came to hold me in his arms as I lost my balance and almost fell to the ground.
“I think I twisted my ankle,” The pain was mild.
“Have a seat and let me take a look,” He sat me back on the chair then knelt in front of me and took my leg carefully. He placed it on his thigh
and examined it gently and carefully.
“I guess it’s muscle cramp. Let’s go inside… I’ll apply balm to it. I’m sure it’ll relieve you after that,” He stood up then held my hand and
helped me up to my feet.
“Can you walk? Do you want me to carry you?”
“Don’t worry. I can…” My voice trailed off and my heart fluttered as he swept me off my feet.
“I told you I can-”
“I’ll take you inside,” His deep and soothing voice was all I needed to bring a shy smile to my face as I rested my head on his chest. His heart
I I was pumping hard against his chest as he made his way to my room, and mine wasn’t an exception. My stomach was filled with butterflies…
