Chapter 897: This is Karma

Felix continued, "Just because someone dies doesn't mean there's no evidence. Who knows if what

you're saying is true?"

"Felix! I asked you to speak for me. Whose side are you on?" Old Raymond looked at Felix.

Felix looked at Old Raymond and said, "I know you called me here to speak for you, but do you really

have the means to spend this money if you get it?"

Old Raymond was taken aback. "What do you mean?"

"If Mitch has been to the city, and you baselessly claim that he borrowed one hundred thousand from

you, and he transfers the money to you, you could be sued for extortion. You would not only have to

repay the one hundred thousand to Mitch and his family, but also face legal consequences." Felix

spoke seriously to Old Raymond.

Although Old Raymond had been living in this village, he had some knowledge about legal matters.

Especially with Zane standing nearby, Old Raymond suddenly felt uncertain.

Taking advantage of Old Raymond's momentary confusion, Felix nudged Mitch with his elbow,

indicating that he should say something to intimidate Old Raymond.

Mitch didn't expect Felix to take his side. He was initially stunned but then repeated what Felix had

said. "Uncle, you're right. I can give you the money, but in the end, I will still go through legal

procedures. If you can't prove that my dad borrowed one hundred thousand from you, then it's extortion

on your part! Think it over!"

Felix's words had shaken Old Raymond, and now hearing Mitch's words, Old Raymond felt even more

uncertain.

After hesitating for a moment, Old Raymond snorted. "Stop trying to scare me. I won't be easily

intimidated by you!"

"Fine, let Mitch give you the money. Transfer it to my phone right now, and once it's done, I'll take you

to get it. But remember, if the police come knocking at your door later, don't say I didn't warn you about

the seriousness of the situation!" Felix said, taking out his phone from his pocket and handing it to

Mitch. "Come on, transfer the money now!"

While speaking, Felix discreetly gestured to Mitch.

Understanding the signal, Mitch took out his phone and pretended to transfer money to Felix.

Just as Mitch raised his hand, Old Raymond suddenly stepped forward and grabbed Felix's hand,

pulling it towards himself. "Superstitious! I'll help you choose an auspicious day. But first, you have to

give me some of the money!"

Seeing that Old Raymond had eased up a bit, Mitch said, "You calculate the auspicious day first. I'll

have Payne bring the money later."

Old Raymond grumbled and turned to walk inside. "Come in."

Those were Old Raymond's words to Mitch.

Mitch nodded and then turned to Zane, whispering, "Mr. Lawrence, you and Payne can go down first.

Yanis isn't feeling well, and with the weather changing after the rain, I don't want him catching a cold."

Zane looked at Mitch and asked, "Are you sure you can handle it?"

"I'll be fine. You go down first." After speaking to Zane, Mitch turned to Payne, Taylor, and Reed. "You This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

all can go down together. I'll come down on my own later."

Reed glanced in the direction Old Raymond had left. "I'll wait for you to come down together."

Taylor and Payne also chimed in, "We'll wait for you too. Let Mr. Lawrence go back with Yanis first."

Mitch frowned and looked at Zane.

"We'll wait outside together," Zane said. He knew it was better to wait and go down together in this

situation. If anything happened later, they wouldn't be able to catch up in time if they were coming from

above. It was better to go down together.

Mitch heard Zane's words and didn't say anything more. "Then you take Yanis to wait in the yard. It's

more sheltered from the wind there."

Zane nodded. "You go inside first."

After Mitch followed Old Raymond into the house, Zane turned around and walked out of the yard.

"Why did Old Raymond approach you?" Payne turned his head to look at Felix, who was standing

nearby, and asked.

Felix looked up at Payne upon hearing the question. "Don't you know what our relationship is?"

With a frown, Felix continued, "And you, why don't you show some respect? Your brother knows to call

him 'uncle,' but you just talk to me like that?"

Payne glanced at Felix with disdain and looked away without saying anything.

Felix snorted and was about to argue with Payne when he noticed Taylor giving him a guarded look.

After thinking for a moment, Felix decided to let it go.

Meanwhile, inside the house, Old Raymond sat comfortably in a chair with his eyes closed, muttering

something under his breath. Mitch knelt respectfully in front of him.

Old Raymond performed this task with great decorum, sitting in the chair and murmuring while closing

his eyes.

After muttering for a while and asking Mitch several questions, Old Raymond finally gave Mitch the

burial date and time.

The burial was scheduled for the day after tomorrow at eight minutes past eight in the morning.

Once the time was set, following tradition, Mitch gave Old Raymond ninety-nine dollars.

"Thank you," Old Raymond grunted as he received the money from Mitch. "Now leave. Don't come

back here. Your parents wouldn't want you to return."

Hearing Old Raymond's words, Mitch looked up and asked, "Did you calculate everything?"

Old Raymond grumbled, "Do you want to come back here to meet your demise?"

Then Old Raymond paused and said, "How long has it been since your family left? About a year? Your

father went first, and now your mother. With just a few of you remaining, are you all planning to follow

suit?"

Mitch listened but didn't respond to Old Raymond's words.

Old Raymond stood up from the chair and sat down again. "Your father associated with that Nealon

and did all sorts of reckless things. You're not ignorant of that. This is karma."

Mitch understood that Old Raymond's previous words didn't hold any weight. But he didn't argue with

Old Raymond and simply paid his respects to the offerings placed on the side before leaving.

Old Raymond followed him out in the end. "You better remember the matter of the money. Otherwise, I

won't let you off the hook."

Mitch turned his head and glanced at Old Raymond. "Are you suggesting that I spend the remaining

time in jail?"

Upon hearing this, Old Raymond started swearing again.

However, this time Mitch didn't respond and left with Reed.

As they descended, the weather suddenly changed, indicating that it might rain again.

"Hurry up, it looks like it's going to rain again," Mitch spoke up.

The group quickened their pace, but they couldn't escape the fate of getting soaked in the rain.

They ran all the way back home, but everyone was still mostly wet.
