Chapter 1124: Just Feel Better by Saying It
Ruth raised her eyes slightly, looking at Yanis as she spoke each word deliberately, "Doesn't Mr.
Lawrence care enough about you?"
Yanis pursed her lips, "I meant before."
Ruth sighed, "Before... I unintentionally overheard Mr. Lawrence talking to Albi. No matter which
sentence it was, the feeling I got after hearing it was that Mr. Lawrence truly loves his wife."
Ruth paused for a few seconds at this point, "So, it was at that moment that I completely buried my
feelings bit by bit. Because no matter how hard I tried, even if I shone as brightly as Miss Bennett
someday, I would never be the one Mr. Lawrence loves."
"Mrs. Lawrence, I'm telling you all this just to find someone to share the thoughts and feelings I've kept
in my heart for years. So that I don't feel like there's something weighing me down, and speaking about
it would make me feel a bit better."
Yanis opened her mouth, wanting to say something. Yet, when she began speaking, she realized that
some words, when said at this moment, felt feeble and inadequate.
So, Yanis didn't say much more.
"Do you want more water?" Yanis didn't address Ruth's earlier words but instead looked at the now-
empty glass in Ruth's hand and softly asked.
Ruth hesitated for a moment and then handed the glass to Yanis, "Thank you."
Taking the glass, Yanis turned around to fetch more water and mentioned, "While you were inside, Albi
called your family, but the outcome wasn't very positive."
Ruth didn't show much emotion upon hearing Yanis' words, "For them, my life and death have no
impact. I kept their numbers because the company required us to have an emergency contact. I had no
choice but to write down their numbers, although I've rarely used them."
Yanis didn't feel it was her place to question why, so she handed the refilled glass to Ruth, saying, "Albi
will arrange for a temporary nurse to take care of you."
Ruth simply nodded, "Alright, thank you."
Ruth's straightforward acceptance of the help was something Yanis appreciated about her personality.
After chatting with Ruth in the room for a while, Yanis left.
Zane was waiting at the door and approached Yanis as soon as he saw her come out.
Yanis glanced behind Zane, "Where's Albi?"
"He hasn't arrived yet."
"Let's go back. We can have Albi find a temporary caregiver for her," Yanis suggested.
Zane nodded and reached out to hold Yanis' hand as they walked out.
After a few steps, Yanis turned to Zane, looking at his face, and called out softly, "Zane."
"Yes?"
"Do you... know that Ms. Walpole used to like you?"
Upon hearing Yanis' question, Zane initially appeared stunned before admitting openly, "I could sense
it."
"You could sense it?"
Zane affirmed, "During a certain period, Ruth temporarily acted as my assistant due to work reasons.
We worked together on some projects, and I could tell from her every word and action."
"Was that around the time your relationship with Neve had already deteriorated?"
Zane shook his head, "No."
Upon hearing Zane's response and recalling what Ruth had said earlier, everything seemed to fit
together.
"Did she tell you?"
Yanis didn't deny it, nodding slightly, "But now, she doesn't have any feelings for you."
Zane nodded, "I know. If she did, someone else would have taken over as the Project Manager at the
Lawrence Group."
Hearing Zane's words, Yanis stopped and turned to him, "You're quite unromantic, huh?"
Zane chuckled, "Except for you, I treat everyone the same. You're the exception."
Yanis smiled and murmured, "Mr. Lawrence, you've passed the test."
"I'm truly fortunate then."
Yanis agreed with an acknowledging sound, "Let's go home."
Regarding Ruth's situation, Yanis didn't actively seek further information, but Zane later brought it up.
Zane personally took care of the CEO's son who had caused the incident. As luck would have it, the
young man, who hadn't shown any remorse, had attempted to manipulate a young girl he met at a
gathering and lured her to a hotel. Zane reported his illicit actions, leading to a sentence of three
months, given the young man's connections.
Although Zane hadn't planned to make a big deal out of the situation, he didn't keep it a secret either.
The report had been made anonymously, but Zane had Albi handle the subsequent matters in person.
The next day, the CEO and his wife came to visit, laden with bags.
Interestingly, they arrived right after Zane had left with Allan the previous night.
At that time,
only Yanis and Reed were at home.
Yanis stood by the door, facing the couple with bags in their hands. She felt a little baffled, "May I ask
who you're looking for?"
"Is this Mrs. Lawrence? We're here to see Mr. Lawrence about something," said Mr. Wheeler, who had
collaborated with Zane several times before.
"Zane's not home right now. Would you like to call him first?" Yanis inferred the reason for their visit as
soon as they spoke.
Mainly because Zane had mentioned it last night.
"It's fine, Mrs. Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence isn't home, and we're here to see you for a small matter. Could
we talk for a bit?" Mr. Wheeler spoke in hushed tones.
Yanis hesitated for a moment and then invited them inside, "Please have a seat."
Reed saw what was happening and went to pour two glasses of water, placing them in front of Mr. and
Mrs. Wheeler.
Although Yanis hadn't explicitly said she wouldn't call Zane, she managed to find a moment to send
him a message, letting him know that there were visitors at home.
Since Aunt Alice and Aunt Gloria were both off today, it was just Yanis and Reed at home.
"Mrs. Lawrence, I heard you're pregnant. Congratulations." Mrs. Wheeler spoke and took out two gift
boxes, "These are some nutritional supplements I had someone buy. They're excellent for pregnant
women."
Yanis glanced at the gift boxes in Mrs. Wheeler's hands, her brow slightly raised, "Mrs. Wheeler, you
shouldn't have." Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
It was quite clear that Yanis was refusing.
However, Mrs. Wheeler seemed unaffected by the refusal, "Don't think too much of it. My husband and
Mr. Lawrence have collaborated several times and consider each other friends. Friends don't need to
exchange pleasantries like 'you're too kind'."
