CHAPTER XXXVIII
Roman and Alecia’s parents.
“Roman, who did this to you? What did you do to the Don?” His mum cried out. “Where-Where’s your-,”Her remaining words turned into a low gasp when she saw the bodies hanging over the wall.” A-Alecia,”
Chase ignored the crying woman and stared at Roman dead in the eye. “Do you know your biggest mistake in this life? Wanting someone that was already taken was your biggest mistake and look what it has caused you. If you didn’t eye my property or try to help her escape, I’m sure you would have been roaming around the streets of Italy freely. Your sister would have been alive. Her best friend would have been alive. You wouldn’t have to be killed and your parents would not have to be buried alive,”
“Chase,” tears leaked profusely from Sophia’s eyes. “Please no,” She shook her head. “Please don’t do this. They-this. They are all innocent. Don’t drag them into this. Please,”
“No, Gattina,” Chase turned to her. “I swear we all wouldn’t have been here if you didn’t drag them into this. You. You are the cause of everything. You are the reason you lost your best friends and one of their families. You are the reason I’m taking this coward’s life and you are still the dammed fucked up reason I’m taking his parents’ life. Only you. If you had just listened to me in the first place and decided not to act smart, this wouldn’t be happening,” Before anyone could comprehend anything, Chase pulled out a pocket knife and slit Roman’s throat with it before the sound of air leaving his windpipe filled the room.

“Roman!” Sophia and Roman’s parents screamed.
Roman gurgled, and blood gushed out his mouth, nose, and silted throat. Chase let go of his hair, and his head sagged as life completely left him.
He died for an unrecognized and unrequited love.
Chase flung the pocket knife away and wiped off his bloodied hands with the towel one of his men handed to him. He then motioned to Roman’s parents. “Fateli seppellire vivi per aver dato alla luce un codardo” But then, Chase knew deep down that wasn’t why he was killing them. He was doing it to save and free them of the pain and agony of losing their kids.
{“Have them buried alive for birthing a coward”}
Considering the loud shrill that left Roman’s mum, Sophia knew Chase intended to do something bad, and she began to tug on the chains that she was tied with as she watched Chase’s men dragging Roman and Alecia’s parents. “Chase, please, don’t do anything to them. I-I agree I’m at fault. I agree it was my fault. I-I agree I’m the cause so many lives were lost today, but please spare them. Don’t kill them, “She wasn’t able to save Maya or her family, Alecia or Roman and the guilt would eat her alive, but she could at least save their parents, right? “Please. You-you can take my life also but not theirs. Free them,”
Chase began to untie the chains on Sophia. “Too late, Gattina. I don’t back down on my words,” That was the only way to free Roman and Alecia’s parents from the pain of losing their only children. Letting them die would help and free them.

The moment Chase locked the door of his bedroom, Sophia pulled away from him and rushed to the bathroom to pour out the contents of her stomach.
The blood and everything in that room was disgusting. She couldn’t take it. The sight of her best friends’ bodies and that of Roman was forever going to stay etched to her mind.
A fresh wave of tears began to fall from her eyes, and her lips quivered. Sophia shut her eyes tight and gripped the sink tightly. “I’m sorry, Maya. I’m sorry, Alecia. I’m even more sorry roman. I-I couldn’t even help any of you. I didn’t realize that burdening you guys with my problems would cost you and your family your life. I’m sorry once again Roman. I-I didn’t-I failed to recognize how you felt about me. I’m such a bad person. I-,”
A loud bang on the bathroom door cut her off. “Gattina, come out of the bathroom,”
{“Kitten”}
Chase Romano.
She hated him. She hated him with so much passion. He was the cause of all her problems. He took away her parents, her freedom, and her best friends. He took away everything and left her with a gnawing feeling of guilt.
Chase banged on the door again. “Gattina, I’m not going to repeat myself again. Come out or I’ll make you,”

Make mesh wanted to scream out loud. She wanted to yell at him and tell him she hated him so much, but only sobs left her lips.
Sophia froze when she heard the sound of her Nana’s voice filling the bedroom with its warmth.
“Thanks so much, then,”
Sophia quickly opened the door and dashed into the suddenly dark bedroom only to halt in her steps as she stared at her Nana’s smiling face in the projector that was the only source of light in the room along with a burning candle.
She was dressed in a hospital gown and was on a bed in a hospital room, talking to someone Sophia presumed was a nurse.
“What-what happened to my Nana?” She turned to Chase. “Why-why is she in a hospital? What-what did you do to her?”
Chase ignored her and picked up a knife.
Sophia made her way towards the projector to at least touch her Nana’s face but was stopped by large palm gripping her elbow.
She turned. “Chase, please let me go to her. I-I swear, I won’t ever try to run again,”
Chase gripped her tighter and pulled her with him towards the bed before plopping her down on it. “You don’t ever listen, do you?”
“I’m sorry. I- I won’t- ahhh, “She yelped when he gripped her hair tight and pulled her up.
“Do you want your Nana to join them? Can’t you see how happy she is? You want that smile to leave her face? Do you want to watch her burn into ashes alive?”
Sophia’s eyes widened, and she shook her head. “No-no, please. Don’t kill her too. I-I’ll have no one. The-the guilt is going to kill me,”
“There’s no such thing as guilt in our world, Gattina,”
