CHAPTER XCVIII
~~~
He continued;
Now, I hope you both will be able to take the bomb that I’m about to drop on you. I don’t think I’ll be able to make it out of the ICU. Even if I go out of there, I’ll be coming out as a corpse, so I’m sure you’re only reading this because I’m dead. I made a friend over here. She’s the nurse that gave you this note because I specifically asked her to give it to you both if I don’t make it out alive. If I had made it out alive, I’d have asked her to get rid of it. I trust her enough to do so.
The baby I’m giving birth to isn’t your full sister. She’s not your father’s daughter. She’s Agosti Bennett’s daughter, and I hope you still take her as your full sister and not a step-sister. I know you’re probably confused because of this. I really want to apologies for not staying loyal to your father. My excuses won’t bail me out, I know, but still, I hope you forgive me as you read this.
The mafia world works unjustly. It’s unfair to us women but it doesn’t guarantee that we cheat on our husbands. I was lured by Bennett through his lies and deceit and that was how I ended up carrying his child. You’re both not even up to ten and it’s so sad you have to find out about this at this age. I wouldn’t have been able to take the guilt of my infidelity with me to my grave.
Your dad had stopped giving me the attention I wanted. I craved love from him but I got none as per how the mafia world works. A naive part of me, even after all these years, thought your dad felt at least something for me and I wanted to bring it out. I met his best friend to help me out. I thought Agosti was helping me when he told me to-
Luciano narrowed his eyes at the dried tear drop that was there. He continued;
I thought Agosti was helping me when he told me to sleep with him. I found it hard to agree with him because all my loyalty laid with your dad. Agosti had a wife and I brought it up, he laughed it off and reminded me of how the mafia world worked. When I told him I wasn’t allowed to cheat, he told me no one would find out. I was stupid to have believed that was the only way to get a reaction from Antonio so I could at least find a bit of emotion for me. I had been desperate for his love, but that doesn’t still count as an excuse for cheating.
I agreed. I slept with Bennett and I got pregnant, so I didn’t even let your dad find out that I cheated. I didn’t have it in me to tell Antonio it wasn’t his child when I saw how happy he looked about the news. He was rarely happy with the things I tried to do and I didn’t want to make him upset, so I kept quiet. I didn’t tell him about the baby. But I told the baby’s real father. I told Agosti and he suggested that I aborted it. Thinking about your father, I refused to abort the baby. I kept it and well, I don’t know what happened to him, but Agosti suddenly agreed to keep the baby but on the condition that his best friend wouldn’t find out that it was his own child. I agreed because I didn’t want your dad to find out too. It would’ve reduced my chances of winning over him.
By the time I realized that I didn’t only cheat on your dad because I wanted a reaction from him, it was already late. I finally registered that I needed a man to touch me in a loving manner. That was what Agosti had done for me.
Well, it wasn’t up to thirty minutes since Agosti’s wife gave birth and I heard she gave birth to a still- born. Since both of us were to give birth in the same hospital, I used the excuse that nobody was with me here, so I went to check up on Gio. When I went there, I learnt the truth the hard way. I learnt that Agosti had only agreed to let me keep my baby because he had plans of taking it away from me. I overheard him telling the doctor that he expected her to birth a still-born baby because her pregnancy had been complicated from its third month. That instant, I also caught the drift that I was only infatuated with your dad because if I really loved him, I would never have cheated. I didn’t have it in me to see Gio again and luckily for me, she was still unconscious, so I didn’t see her.
I rushed back to my hospital room. I needed to think of a way to escape. I found none. I knew your dad would’ve still found me. I gave up.
So, here I am. Here I am writing a long letter to you few minutes before I’m taken to the ICU where I’m likely to be killed so my baby will be taken away from me.
I’m leaving but I know Chase will always be there for you all. He cares for you all even though your dad has messed with him and his sanity. I’m sure Chase will never try to take out his anger and frustration of what your dad is doing to him on you all. I’m sure he’s better than that.
Your sister is going to be taken away by Agosti Bennett. Please, don’t let him get away with it. I want you to take her back from him and give her a good life when you’re capable of doing so. Take care of her and when she’s of age, tell her the truth about her birth.
I have no words for you. All I want you both to know is that I’m deeply sorry for what I’ve done and that I love you all deeply.
Please take care of yourself and don’t become like your dad, his brother, or even Agosti. Be the type of men that would see the good in people and respect them. This is my dying wish.This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
I’ll always love you.
