Chapter 54
That night, I hardly slept. I was plagued by dreams and nightmares, ones that kept me tossing and turning. Every time I woke up however, the dreams would dissolve into thin air and I wouldn't be able to recall them.
It was quite frustrating and after the third time of this happening, I decided to get up.
It was a surprise Keiran was still asleep with all my commotion so I decided to give him some space. I got ready to go out and exercise before I meditated
Three witches from the nearest coven would be visiting today. I had spoken to Selene who had agreed with my plan and she in turn had talked to her mother. After getting mindlinked from the First Elder herself, she had informed me that she had discussed with the Council and no coven had declared war on the werewolves.
The witches behind this attack were rogue dark witches that the Council would help us bring to justice since they violated the laws of magic too.
I was very much relieved to hear the news and quickly spread the information to the pack. We had prepared the best guest rooms for them because these three witches were ambassadors of their kind. This visit would no doubt be historical since we were both looking to sign a peace treaty and form a formal alliance.
Needless to say, there was a lot of pressure on me to perform well and I had to be the epitome of calm and grace to pull it off.
"Quin, have you picked an outfit yet?" I asked, heading back inside after a long run and some yoga. The young girl smiled, nodding as she paused her conversation with Amelia, the young maid.NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.
"Yes Artemis. I've laid them on your bed for you," I nodded and headed upstairs to shower and get dressed. They were due in an hour and I had to look my best.
As I entered the bedroom, Kieran had just stepped out the shower, a towel wrapped around his waist as he dried his hair with another towel. The beads of water looked delicious running down his naked torso and under normal circumstances I would have taken the chance to lick them off myself.
But unfortunately for both me and my libido, I had more pressing matters at hand.
"Good morning," He gave me a knowing smirk as I snapped my eyes back up to his face.
"Morning. As much as I really enjoy the view, I need to get changed," I pressed a quick kiss to his lips as I rushed past him and into the shower.
The hot water helped relax my body and loosen the knots in my muscles. It had only been a week since I woke up and despite being out on bedrest with Kieran protectively hovering by my side, I felt like I had hardly gotten any rest and hardly spent any time with my mate.
Brushing those thoughts away, I quickly finished off and dried myself. I stepped back out into the bedroom to inspect the outfit laid out for me.
Quin had set out a beautiful lace bodysuit that was quite sexy in my opinion. I felt amazing pulling on the tight piece as it instantly did wonders for my confidence and mood. Of course, I couldn't wear the lingerie piece on its own in front of everyone.
I pulled the smart dress pants and it's belt before putting on the matching crisp blazer. The whole outfit was white, which was my standard colour as a spirit wolf.
I brushed my hair and twisted it back into a simple updo, leaving a few strands to frame my face. I added some basic accessories like a few rings and a watch as well as some gold hoop earrings.
Looking in the mirror, I looked good, though I did have to pause at the vanity table to put on some concealer. The shadows under my eyes spoke of the rough couple night I have been having and I didn't want that to show.
Nevertheless, I made sure I was standing outside the pack house next to a smartly dressed Keiran just as a sleek black car rolled in and stopped at the end of the driveway. I made sure I stood right at the front to welcome them first.
The driver stepped out and opened the door, reavealing three stunning women who sauntered out to greet me.
The one at the front reached out to press a kiss to each of my cheeks and I returned the gesture as she introduced herself.
"I am Seraphine, head witch and coven leader of the Crescent Sisters," She gave me a blinding smile that made her mismatched eyes shine. She gestured to the taller woman on her left. "That's Lilith, our head healer," The woman in question quirked her brow at me, her bright purple eyes seemingly penetrating my soul.
"And this is Medea, our war strategist and analyst," The afore mentioned woman looked nothing like I'd assume a war specialist to look like. She was short, around 5'2 and had a soft feminine figure and a bright and sweet smile.
"I am Artemis, Spirit Wolf and Luna of the Phantom Pack. We appreciate you all coming down here during these stressful times,"
"Of course. We wouldn't pass up this opportunity to make a historical allegiance," She offered me a small diplomatic smile which I returned. I led the way up the driveway so that I could introduce her to Kieran and the rest of the pack officials. "Would you like to freshen up before we begin the meeting?" I asked politely.
"No, it's best to get the heavy topics out the way first," Seraphine suggested, everyone else agreeing with her.
We all quickly settled in the meeting room, the maids bringing water and refreshments. I was very eager and antsy to begin.
"So you've been having problems with these attacks?" The head witch began.
"Handling them has been easy, the only problem we have is figuring out who they are and why they're attacking us," Kieran spoke up.
"And you think they are possessed wolves?" This time I answered.
"Yes. Their body is much weaker than a normal wolf and their eyes are a soulless black. They smell of death and decay and seemingly appear out of nowhere,"
"That does sound like a witch possession. But why would a witch do that? Do you have any enemies?" Medea asked, dark eyes curious and her lips in a small pout.
"We don't have any real enemies. No one we know would pull an attack of this magnitude," Vaughn replied.
"Which brings me to my point," I interjected. They all looked at me, my pack not expecting my next words. "I think the witch doing these possessions is either working with someone else or is being forced to do it against her will," They all looked perplexed by my suggestion.
"Why would you think that?" Seraphine asked.
"Because Hunters are behind these attacks."
And with that simple statement, I watched the otherwise silent room break out into questions and chaos.
