Chapter 2 Blood Roses
As I walked out of Mr. Galer’s office, I heard people talking about me under their breath as I tried to fix my dress.
I hurried back to my desk, not saying a word. A middle-aged man’s voice came from behind me.
“Don’t pack up your things just yet. There’s a meeting at 5:30.”
A chorus of complaints buzzed.
Three hours later, in the restroom near the company, I vomited.
Brushing aside the disheveled hair, the mirror reflected a shattered and cold face.
It’s just this beautiful face that earned me the opportunity to be promoted after just a week of internship.
At the meeting, my colleagues chimed in with Mr. Galer’s praise of me. After Mr. Galer left, everyone started chanting, “Let’s go out for a treat!”
They chose the most expensive restaurant. Women sat to the side, mocking and ridiculing, while men crowded around, pouring drinks for me.
It was all routine for me.
When I left the restroom, the people in the private room had already left, leaving behind a mess.
I summoned the waiter and paid a large sum in cash from my pocket.
I am not short of money, because there are always men around me who force money on me just to get a taste of my beauty.
Exiting the restaurant, a car stopped as I raised my hand. I got in and opened the food delivery app.
A table full of delicacies, yet I didn’t take a single bite. My hunger grew.
After ordering, I closed my eyes and leaned back on the rear seat, my head spinning.
Alertness made me forcefully open my eyes, finding a pair of unfriendly eyes in the rearview mirror.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“Stop the car.” I saw the driver turning off the road to my house.
Silence reigned ahead; the car sped through the night.
Suddenly, the phone rang. I reflexively answered.
“Hello, your delivery has arrived. The security won’t open the door; please come down to pick it up.”
“Hey, Bro, I’m in the taxi now, you come to the intersection to pick me up.” I shouted into the phone, sitting up straight.
Ten minutes later, I stumbled down from the car, still shaken.
