Chapter 42
Nick POV
Well, today didn't quite go as planned for me. I was just planning on strolling around a bit, minding my own business, and I ended up killing another wolf from the same army I am supposed to be "working" for. For a she wolf I don't even know at that. But I couldn't just let him kill her.
Not because she is pretty, I'm not that shallow, but because it's the right thing to do. Obviously, she hasn't been on the run that long considering her appearance and clothing and such, she doesn't know what she has gotten herself into. I do have to think of a way to cover my tracks here though.
If the rogue King finds out what happened here, I am a dead wolf. To kill one of the army already is bad, but to know I haven't brought him this she wolf would be worse.
The sadistic f*ck would be sure to make my death painfully slow. As her scent is lingering on one wolf, and mine on the other, there is no other way than to dispose of the bodies. I'm not really keen on digging as it takes a lot of time, so I decide to dump the bodies in a river nearby, which will also help in erasing our scents.
I can't help but wonder why she didn't shift though. She was a good fighter in human form, yes. But against 2 rogue wolves, nobody in their right mind wouldn't shift. A wolf's strength is more than 4 times the strength in human form. Not to mention she is a female and was facing off 2 males on her own.
Slightly feral ones even, which are more unpredictable and thus deadlier. Perhaps she really is that oblivious to the world out here. If she will have any chance of survival, I need to catch up with her and tell her some of the essentials for surviving out here. But first, I have to get rid of these bodies without being seen..
Lola POV
I have been running for the past 2 hours, putting some distance between myself and the rogues, hopefully. It is starting to get dusky and my stomach is growling so hard right now. I really need some food if I don't want to give away my location loud and clear for all to hear through a growling stomach.
But first, I need to find some shelter somewhere. All I have come across in the last hours has been trees, so I guess I have to start making my way up one of the trees for cover. I don't really have many options other than that. The ground floor is too exposed and dangerous.
Up in the trees might not be much better though, as I'll be stuck if anyone finds me there... 'Liberty, what should we do?' 'climb up this tree just a little bit.
Then put some more distance between yourself and this spot. I will retract our scent for a while, so they will think you are in the tree up here.
I will keep our scent retracted until you are in another tree as I can't retract it for too long, it takes up quite a bit of energy and we have already consumed a lot today' I reply with 'thank you Liberty, you are the absolute best wolf any girl could wish for' and start climbing up this tree for just a small bit as she suggested, to then work my way down and walk up head further.
'OK, this is far enough, climb up any of the trees you think is easiest to climb for you here, Lola'. As I look around for the perfect tree, my eyes land on a huge ash-tree with just about enough stubbles and branches for me to grab onto. Or so I hope. I have climbed trees before, but something about being in rogue territory adds enough severity to my case that I am suddenly feeling anxious.
I take a deep breath, steadying myself, and start climbing the tree. I soon find out this isn't the easiest tree to climb, as opposed to the oak trees I usually climbed back in the pack. But then again, this will make it harder for others to climb my tree as well. As I have reached halfway through the tree and am luckily out of sight, I hear the snapping of twigs not too far away and some heavy panting 'stay deadly still now Lola.Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.
There are 3 rogues not too far from us. They can't smell us, but perhaps they are going towards our earlier scent. Just don't make any noise'.
She doesn't need to tell me that twice as I am already frozen on the spot. Looking down, I can't see the rogues yet, but I keep my eyes pinned on the ground.
Soon enough, I see 3 rogues passing by. 1 dark gray wolf and 2 brown wolves, very clearly rogues judging by their appearance 'Lol.
Never mind me literally telling you they are rogues a few seconds ago... Liberty chides me. I smirk at her personality. Sometimes I forget she can hear my thoughts.
Unless I would specifically block her out, which I wouldn't ever see a reason to do as we are a team. 'They are heading to where we left our scent earlier.
They are far enough out now, you should climb as far up as you can to minimize the chances of them smelling our scent throughout the evening and night'. I reply her an 'aye aye captain' before continuing my climb upwards.
