Chapter 3 You Should Be Named ‘The Strength’!
“Missus, the president would come here at six o’clock sharp.” Bernard added when Allison got out of
the car. Allison lived in a small, old community for teachers. She had attracted many pairs of eyes the
moment she got out of an expensive car. Without even having the time to figure out why Bernard knew
where she lived, she quickly nodded at him and escaped from the scene. She dashed up to the sixth
floor at one go and was puffing hard due to exhaustion when she reached the entrance of her house.
As she was ready to knock the door, Jennifer Lawrence, her mother had stood behind her while
carrying a vegetable basket. “Alice, why are you in such a mess, you don’t look like a lady at all.”
Jennifer opened the door while criticizing her. Allison stuck out her tongue and she rushed inside the
house before her when the door was opened. She took her shoes off in a hurry and rushed to the living
room to drink the water she had not finished in the morning.
Jennifer shook her head in disappointment and exasperation. “Allison Gibson, with your behavior and
actions, you have failed the name your mom, I, gave you. You should be named ‘The Strength’!” She
put the basket down in the kitchen while saying and then came out. She mumbled. “When I came back,
I heard Maria saying that there’s a young girl coming out from an expensive car just now! I wonder who
that lucky girl is.”
Allison said softly with guilt, “That’s me.” Jennifer chuckled in contempt and replied. “You? You think
those wealthy guys will have their eyes on you? Chickens mate with chickens and phoenixes mate with
dragons. You’ll know who your mate is when you see yourself in the mirror.” Jennifer’s disbelief and
ruthless oppression had made Allison speechless.
Jennifer and Don Gibson were both university lecturers; therefore Allison was born in an intellectual
family. As for the matter regarding finding Allison a husband, the Gibson family thought it was already
good enough to find someone with similar background and they had never expected her to marry
someone with an incredibly high status.
And they would certainly not want that to happen on Allison as life was not easy after marrying into a
wealthy family after all. Allison certainly knew what her parents were thinking and she wondered
whether Jennifer would faint due to fright if she told her she had truly gotten married to someone who
was exceptionally wealthy.
“Oh yes, how’s the guy in the blind date today?” Jennifer walked towards her and sat on the couch,
ready to start her trial. She was now retired at home. Besides going to the square dance regularly, she
would volunteer at the hospital. The guy she asked for a blind date with Allison was actually the
grandson of Mrs. Lee whom she knew at the hospital.
“Mom, where did you know this guy?” Allison sat on the couch beside her after putting down her bowl.
“He’s Mrs. Lee’s grandson. It’s said that he’s already thirty years old and still hasn’t been in a
relationship. He’s always busy with his work. I’ve seen his photo and he looks mature.” Jennifer wore a
light smile when she talked about Alexander and she was obviously satisfied with him.
Allison bit her lip and examined her old mother’s expression. It was clear that she did not know
Alexander’s true identity.
“I’m asking you how he was.” Jennifer rolled her eyes when she saw Allison not paying attention to her
words. Allison bit her lip and nodded. She prevaricated. “He, he’s a nice guy.” In her mind, she was
forcing herself not to blurt out the fact that she had gotten married to him. “That’s good. You could try
dating him first as time would tell how a person really is after all.” Jennifer stood up and headed
towards the kitchen, ready to wash the vegetables she had just bought.
Seeing Jennifer about to enter the kitchen, Allison darted towards her and tugged the corner of her
shirt. She asked, “Mom, what about dad? Is he coming back for dinner tonight?”
“Yes, he is. What’s wrong?” Jennifer asked. Allison shook her head and then nodded. She finally said
softly, “Well, actually, he wants to come have a dinner with us.” She was planning to inform her
regarding Alexander’s visit first and as for the marriage certificate, she planned to wait until Don came
back so her father would have her back.
“He?” Jennifer did not get her point at first but upon seeing her daughter’s flushed face, she
immediately understood which person she meant. “Sure!” She glimpsed at the vegetables in her basket
and instantly walked towards the main entrance. She said while changing her shoes, “I’ll go buy some Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
fish, and meat.” Without even waiting for Allison to react, Jennifer had left after the opening and closing
of the door.
Allison only heaved a sigh of relief after Jennifer left. She went back to her room, closed the door and
carefully took the marriage certificate out from her pocket.
