Thea gave up, slipped off her heels, and jumped in to help the yht's crew. There were lifeboats and lifevests on board, but it was clear they weren't enough for everyone.
Thea directed those who couldn't swim to use them first. She was determined to save as many lives as possible.
If anything happened to these people, it wouldn't just be the Herrix family that took the hit. Avon Ventures would down with them, and so would she.
In the frantic crowd. Thea spotted Jake and Madelyn. The two were clinging to each other, murmuring dramatic words as if
they were in a movie.
Thea's temples throbbed with irritation. Seriously? Now of all times, can Jake use his brain for once?"
Then Thea marched over with a grim expression and pulled Jake aside. He looked at her with a smug grin. "Now you regret it, huh? What about back there on stage when you didn't even bother to save face for me and Madelyn?" Madelyn followed quickly, tears welling up in her eyes. "Jake, Ti so scared, Ms. Rowland. I know you're just trying to lean on Jake right now, but you can't just take him away like that
Ignoring her. Thea fixed Jake with a sharp look and said. This isn't the time for that. We're lucky if no one dies today, but it's inevitable that people will get hurt.
"Do you really want to be the one who faces all the blame as the person in charge? Or are you planning on telling your family this is how you handle things?"
Jake's expression shifted, the romantic haze clearing from his eyes, replaced by a more serious look.
Seeing this, Thea let out a small breath of relief and pointed to the panicked crowd. "What you need to do right now is calm them down. Show the composure of someone responsible. Don't embarrass your family," she ordered. Hearing this, Jake stared at her, his gaze filled with complexity suddenly.
Satisfied that he'd finally come to his senses, Thea turned to leave
But just as Thea was walking away, Jake called out, "Thea, I knew. You still care about me. Even now, you're thinking about
Thea almost rolled her eyes and thought, "Why do I ever expect anything from this idiot!"
As Thea approached, Madelyn wasn't about to let it go. She latched onto Jake's arm and whined, "Jake, let's just leave. I'm really scared."
Jake shook his head. "No, I can't. This reunion is sponsored in my name. If anything happens, I'll get torn apart."
Madelyn's eyes flickered, and she bit her lip. "I mean, sure, but you weren't the only one who planned this, right?
"Didn't Ms. Rowland have a hand in it too? She didn't hesitate to humiliate you earlier, and now she's dragging you into this
She kicks you to the curb when she doesn't need you, and then expects you to come back and take responsibility when she does. She's trally gone too far
Jake frowned, defending Thea instinctively. "Don't say that. Thea may have a temper, but she's not like that."
Madelyn's frustration deepened, but she masked it with a hurt expression quickly. "Okay, okay. I'm wrong for saying that. But I'm only thinking of you. I mean, I'm carrying our child. If something happens to me, it's whatever, but we can't risk the baby" Suddenly, Jake's resolve crumbled at once. He squeezed her hand and comforted her. "You're right. And don't worry. Let's get you and the baby out of here?
Madelyn practically threw herself into his arms, a smug smile flashing across her face.
Thea, although irritated, had no energy to deal with them anymore. She had a pregnant woman to look after. Even though. she was only a few months along, they still had to be extremely cautions.
Thea called for the lifeboats to take the pregnant women first, but then she saw one of the crew members rush over, sweat dripping down his forehead. "Ms. Rowland, the last lifeboat. Mr. Hendrix took it,"
