Chapter 571
Chapter 571
Linda's actions weren't just about showing off. Chloe felt there was always something more going on, like she was always plotting something. Whatever it was, it definitely wasn't good. But Chloe couldn't figure out what Linda was up to. Hadn't Linda already gotten what she wanted? She'd snagged Lucas and become Mrs. Moncada. What else could she possibly want? Instead of letting Linda scheme in the shadows, Chloe thought it was best to face her head-on. Plus, Chloe was itching to hear how Linda would explain Shawn's death and what really went down with that whole mess. So, Chloe decided to go along with it. She wasn't scared of Linda anymore or her sneaky moves. Linda had only managed to get one over on her before because Chloe had been sincere. Now, Chloe saw right through her. Linda's tricks meant nothing to her now. She was ready to play the game.
Chloe slipped into the bridesmaid dress Linda had gotten for her. When she stepped out of the dressing room, everybody was speechless. Chloe, dressed in white, wore a gown that was simple in design but perfectly accentuated her figure. The standout feature was the long, flowing veil trailing from her waist, sweeping the floor. It was made of the same fabric as the bride’s gown, making it look like part of the bridal ensemble from a distance.
Though it was just a bridesmaid's dress, it had an air of grandeur about it. And with Chloe's stunning looks, she completely outshone the bride. And this was Chloe without any makeup— imagine at the wedding, she'd definitely steal the show. A few concerned glances were cast towards Mrs. Moncada, but she didn't seem upset. In fact, she looked rather pleased, saying, “Chloe, you're absolutely gorgeous.”
Chloe gazed at her reflection in the mirror. The dress was indeed lovely. Back when she and Lucas had a wedding ceremony, they hadn’t officially tied the knot. They'd invited the whole town, but Lucas never showed up that night. Chloe had had to face everyone on her own, and it was the talk
of the town for ages. She never imagined that after more than three years, she’d be attending Lucas's wedding as a bridesmaid. Talk about irony.
Since they'd invited her, she wasn’t going to shy away. If Linda tried anything, Chloe was ready to turn the tables and make them the town's laughingstock. Linda stepped up beside her. “Bobby, can you take a picture of us?” Bobby, already prepared, snapped a few shots of them together. But Chloe felt awkward. Even though she agreed to be Linda's bridesmaid, her heart wasn't in it. Their relationship wasn’t close at all. The photos seemed so fake to her. Two people with their own agendas, trying to look like they got along.
Chloe cut it short, “That's enough.” She went back to the dressing room and changed out of the dress. When she came back, Linda was studying the photos, lost in thought. Who knew what was on her mind? When Chloe emerged, Linda quickly said, “They turned out great, want to see?” Chloe declined, saying, “No need to keep up a sisterly act for no one's benefit. I'll be at your wedding like I said, so I hope you keep your promise.”
Chloe then headed to Connor's office. Since quitting her job, she had a lot of time on her hands. Besides helping out at Ann’s store, she often found herself at Connor's office. Her friend had caught wind of her situation and called her twice, offering her a position at QUEEN’s headquarters as a design director and vice president. But Chloe was unsure. For one thing, the headquarters were in Eldridge City, which meant leaving Riverbrook. And with a company that big, full of designers and employees, it would definitely cause a stir if she suddenly showed up, even though Missy was known as one of the top three shareholders.
