Darling, Don't Get Rid of Me

Chapter 82 Why?

Chapter 82 Why?

Friends? Harriet herself wouldn't believe this lie.

"How could we be friends?" Harriet crooked her mouth, she wasn't planning to hide anything, so she

asked rhetorically, "Do you think we look like friends?"

Molly answered without hesitation, "Nope, you guys look like a couple."

"..." Harriet's eyebrow twitched, "Molly, I think you should do an eye check-up."

"Is it not true?" Molly was quite surprised, "But, I can really tell that Mr. Smith cares a lot about you,

how can it not be true? I know, you guys want to keep it a secret, am I right?"

Harriet was dumbfounded, "What are you even saying, do you really think that Wesley will take a liking

to me? Not to mention that he has a fiance."

Molly said in a serious tone, "Harriet, don't sell yourself short. You are a great person, you and Mr.

Smith are certainly a good match. Also, wasn't it rumoured that the fiance doesn't get along with Mr.

Smith?"

She then slapped her chest with confidence and said, "Don't worry, I promise that I'll keep this a secret

and will never tell a single soul about it!"

Seeing that her little assistant was glowing in spirit, Harriet couldn't bear to tell her the truth.

She still had some pride. Besides Colin, Molly was the other person that she didn't want her dark side

to be exposed to. She couldn't say it, she couldn't tell Molly that Wesley was her sugar daddy.

"So Harriet, when did you and Mr. Smith get together?" asked Molly, being a busybody.

Harriet laughed dryly, "Molly, Wesley and I aren't…"

Before she could finish her sentence, her phone rang. She looked at the display and saw that her

brother Colin was calling her.

"Sister, are you done with your photography session?"

Harriet could tell that he wanted to hang out with her, she immediately replied, "I'm done, but I still have

some matters at hand."

She was right, on the other side of the phone was a brief silence, and then Colin responded, "I see, it's

okay then. I will wait for you to come back."

"What's wrong? Did you get into an argument with your cute little girlfriend?" Harriet asked playfully.

Colin didn't relax his tone even though Harriet was just pulling his leg, he changed into a more serious

tone and said, "Sister, come home as soon as you're done, I'll be waiting for you and we'll have dinner

together."

"Well, I'm not really sure what time I'll be done, it might be pretty late." Harriet was a bit worried, her

brother had never talked to her in such a depressed tone before, "What happened? Do you want to tell

me through the phone?"

"Just come home earlier okay?" It was the first time that Colin hung up on her like that.

What Colin said was making her worried, Harriet couldn't care less to stay in the hospital for resting

and additional check-ups. She didn't even finish her food, she and Molly then finished up the

procedures to get out of the hospital.

When Harriet got home, the first thing she saw was Colin sitting down on the sofa in the living room, his

head hung low and he seemed to be in deep thoughts.

"Colin, why did you come by all of a sudden?" Harriet went up to ask her brother, "Did you get into a

fight with your girlfriend?"

Colin raised his head, he stood up and pointed at the stack of reports sitting on the coffee table.

"Please tell me that these aren't real, sister."

Harriet was taken aback, her brother now looked very upset, she went up and took a glance at the

reports. Her face changed, "Where did you find these?"

The reports were receipts about her kidney operation and the results of her body check-up. She did a

thorough body check-up after the operation, and it stated clearly on the report that she did a kidney

operation and an abortion. There was no denying for Harriet.

It immediately dawned on Colin that it was real seeing his sister being lost at words with his question,

he was angry and upset at the situation.

"Sister, I believed you when you told me that it was only a small operation! No wonder you always

avoid answering my question whenever I ask about it. I respect your privacy, but this is not a small

matter. Why did you hide it from me? Do you still treat me as your brother?"

This was the first time Colin felt so much rage ever since he regained consciousness. Apart from

blaming his sister for hiding the truth, he was also devastated that she didn't trust him enough to share

the burden with him.

"Colin, these are all in the past. I'm healthy and recovering well, there is no need to…"

Before Harriet could finish her sentence, Colin cut her off angrily.

"You phrase it so light-heartedly, but it is a kidney. And tell me sister, how about the other operation?

Did you agree to do it or were you forced?"

Being attacked with one question after another, Harriet's mind was filled with chaos and confusion.

If only I threw away the reports, then Colin wouldn't have found out about it!

"How could you go through my stuff without my permission?" Trying to avoid answering the question,

Harriet asked Colin a question instead.

Colin said furiously, "I came over today to help you pack some stuff because you mentioned that you

wanted to move, who would ever think that… Sister, I understand that the incident is in the past, but

you should've at least told me the reason why, and who was the one that received your kidney. As your

family, do I not have the right to know?"

"Colin, it's not like that." Harriet frowned deeply and was pursing her lips hesitantly.

It seemed like there was no avoiding the topic today.

Suddenly, Colin was struck with a thought, he said with a heavy expression, "Wait, it's not because of

me, right?"

His comments were right on the nail, Harriet's face immediately turned white as a sheet.

With this reaction, Colin was certain that he guessed the turn of events correctly, there was a hint of

disbelief in his eyes, "Is it really because of me? How could it be?"

He plopped down onto the sofa, he was holding his head and was frowning deeply. The sight of him

was breaking Harriet's heart.

"No, it is not because of you! Colin, it is really not something important at all. Listen to me, this is not

your fault, it was my decision. I volunteered to help a patient and hence I donated my kidney."

Colin raised his head, he gawked at her and asked, "Ok, if it was really like that, then tell me, how

about mom? Where did mom go?"

It had been a long time since they last saw their mother, Harriet knew that no excuses could cover up

the truth anymore, her brother would not believe her white lies anymore.

"Mom, mom is already…" Words were not coming out of Harriet's mouth properly, her eyes darkened.

Colin realized the truth, his face twisted into a grimace of anguish, "No, that couldn't be real!"

"Calm down, Colin."

Harriet tried to calm her brother down, she was trying to avoid her brother from being too emotional, but

she wasn't able to keep that from happening.

"It is now all in the past. Even though mom is not here anymore, I'm still here for you."

Colin wasn't listening at all, he was immersed in sadness.

Harriet tried to think of something else to say to her brother, all of a sudden Colin pushed her away and

ran out the door without looking back.

"Colin!" Harriet yelled and ran after him. But her body was weak as she just got out of the hospital, she

was too far behind and could only stare at her brother getting further and further away from her.

Feeling helpless and worried, she tried to flag a car down in an attempt to chase after her brother, but

no cab would stop for her.

"Colin…" Harriet was filled with regret, she stood by the roadside, remorseful and distressed.

Suddenly, a Lamborghini stopped next to her, the window rolled down and the person looked obviously

annoyed.

"Who permitted you to get out of the hospital?"

Harriet was caught off guard, but she quickly looked into the car and plead then man, "Mr. Smith, I got

out because of an emergency, I'll explain it to you later. Could you give me a ride right now? I need to

go look for Colin."

Seeing how distraught the woman looked, Wesley didn't make things difficult for her and said, "Get on."

Harriet felt very grateful, she hurriedly got on the car.

However, there was no sign of Colin along the road.

"Colin…" RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only

The sullen look of Harriet's face vexed Wesley, he didn't like that his woman's thought was filled with

another person, even though it was her brother.

After thinking a bit, he made a u-turn and went the other direction.

"What are you doing?" Harriet asked hastily.

Wesley didn't even bat an eye, "I'll dispatch some people to search for him. All you need to do now is to

rest."

"Wesley, Colin is not your family, you can be indifferent about it but I can't!" Harriet answered

stubbornly, "I must find him, I'm afraid that he'll do something silly…"

Wesley replied sarcastically, "He's a weakling if he is going to commit suicide to something so trivial."

Harriet was startled, there was a sting in her heart and her chest felt heavy.
